  I remember reading the Swiss did run somewhere, but then maybe I'm mis-remembering.
  It doesn't help that 'charge' seems very generalized word for any form of attack.
  I mention how that was confusing but then Purple Tattoo's answer is rather vague in hindsight(in the medieval combat thread I made).

  Do you have any online sources regarding the Swiss Pike Square? Details on how they operated always seem hard to come by. It only from others that I hear about crossbowmen and I'm still trying to figure out where halberdiers may be used.

    It sounds gruesome, but that's basically the gist of it. As the two formations crush into each other, file penetration by the front rankers will occur on both sides. The Halberdiers go in and chop them up, then grind their way into the press of pike.
