I'd like to add I know SC very well too. Annndd... Not sure on who/what I should use that'd be worthwhile here.
How familiar are you with Stargate, Star Trek, and Mass Effect? I may be dropping some ST and ME races into the game for those who explore off the gate network.
Star Trek I know a big. Haven't seen EVERYTHING but I watched large chunks of every season out there. Mass Effect however I only played through like...3 hours of ME1 and kind of lost interest (and a computer to handle the game). Stargate however I've seen all 10 seasons of SG1, all but the final season of SG:A. And none of SG:U (though I want to).

Why not a Cube? With some of Lore's programming. Cut off from the Collective. It would be worth an ISD.
