As time went on most of the First Ones left for greener pastures in other galaxies until only a small number of them were left, the Nox and the Furlings being among the last of the First Ones, and sharing the same ideology as the Alterans in the handling of younger races, non-interferance and careful observation.

Over 10 thousand years ago the Alterans returned to the milky way and discover that most of the races they knew in the Milky Way are either destroyed by war or have left. They form the Great Alliance with the Furlings and the Nox, the Asguard joined last and together they forced them back to their home territories, though with the Alterans depleted manpower due to the Wraith war they are unable to push them all the way back.

Lorien agreed with Alterans, Vorlons and Shadows set out to prove the alterans wrong.

Shadows deployed plague 5 million years ago, nearly wipes out the alterans when their cold war went hot. dealing with both the plague and attacks from both the Shadows and the Vorlons the alterans flee the Milky Way to the Pegasus galaxy, setting off the Dakara device to wipe out the Shadow plague on their worlds and reseeded their worlds with life.

Across the milions of years dozens of younger races perish in the Shadow wars, the alterans made sure the Stargate Network was inaccessible to them with the help of Lorien.

I'm not planning to introduce the Ori for a long time,

Lorien would be the First of the First Ones in the Milky Way, teaching first the Shadows and the Vorlons, as in B5 canon.

The Ancients, or Alterans as they called themselves, came to the milky way to escape persecution from the Ori roughly 10 million years previously. Over the millions of years the Alterans and the various First Ones made contact with each other, early relations were for the most part cordial, though cold from time to time.

As younger races sprang up a debate began between the First Ones and the Alterans developed. The Alterans believed that the younger races should rise and fall on their own with only minimal interferance. The Vorlons believed that progress required perfect Order while the Shadows believed that progress could only come through struggle and conflict.
