Actually, automation does reduce much. The transitional CVN 79 design drops crew from 5000 to 3000, and it is only a newer designed version of the Nimitz class.

normally yes, but ive called BS on that and put the crews at around 4000 as automated or not, the ships are rather HUGE

Mercury crew is stated as 2500 personnel fully loaded. Old Galactica types run about 5000 crew. Xio's crew losses of 1300 would put his ship to only 1200 crew left.

Got an idea. This time it will be Commander Ares Black. Cylon War he saw as a kid (10-15 years old or so at around the end, but it left it's mark. Modeled command style on the big veteran, Bill Adama. Also learned to distrust new tech for it's own sake, but is more open than Adama was.

I'll take the other battlestar then. The Eris has a nice ring. :)
