    I played the game back in 2000. It had no fluff that I know of. There were only three types of ships: warships, courier, and colony ships. You balance the economy between money, population, and research.

    Yeah, it's one of my fondest memories of the game. No other game I know of uses massive sail style drives. The closest is Sword of the Stars human ships, with their ring drives, but they aren't as classy.

  Unfortunately, pretty much all of that stuff was either too advanced for my skill, or impossible to pull off without reprogramming the game engine. That's why quite a bit of it is under the Questionable heading. The alien engine one in particular is impossible since each drive method is hard coded to each race.
  
  However, the weapon realignment, and spinal turrets were either modded or added into the game later on. The AI Emancipation, Now! tech was actually listed as a considered feature for the next game at some point. I don't recall the thread though. But, other than that, I did come up with a bunch of ideas that eventually made it into the main game. That entire list on my page was written up at the time of the very first iteration of the game. So, if it's on that page the game didn't have it when it came out.
