I found this thread due to the fact that I was actually mentioned on it. Thanks, I think. ^_^

Anyway, I also wanted to contribute to it. I love self insertions, so I tried to link as many as I could from my ff.net page. Thanks for noticing, nemo1986!

Here goes!

This is the only, and so far best Lodoss SI, that I've ever seen. Well-written and long, it's the first book of what is supposed to be a multiple-universe spanning story is near to completion. As far as I know he remains active.

Chronicles of Murphy: Book 1

Then there's a page full of bookmarks that is chock full of SI's I ran across one day googling. While not every single one on the list is a self insert, many are, and I think this was the page that led me to the above.

I may be biased as he's my friend, but I also know good SI work when I see it. Taiteki Kagato is a prolific author with excellent taste, and a good eye for plot points that are dangerous as they are hilarious. He's written several good self inserts, and while not imaginatively titled ("Not Another SI Fic," and "And Yet ANOTHER Self Insert Fic") both works are involving and entertaining, and they always keep me coming back for more. Plus, he's still active, which is always good.

Sleepingbear is actually part of a collective of other authors that also write SI's, but apparently they've been in the decline in the last couple of years (Differing Fools). Out of them all, I'd say he's the best, and he has certainly written the most. Avatar One Half is a 200,000+ word remake of an earlier SI he did, with the sequel in progress at 50,000+ words. Check his links for the other authors, like EternallyLost, Shark8, and The Liz.

"A Certain Point of View" by GuyverChaz is an excellent Bubblegum Crisis SI story that doesn't get the kind of credit it deserves. The author has recently come back into fanfiction after a hiatus of seven years (according to his ff.net profile page), so there's still hope he'll eventually get around to finishing it.

"Drunkard's Walk" is a multiple-universe spanning story of an RPG character created by Robert M. Schroeck. One book is completed and is set in the BGC universe. Another is currently underway set in the Oh My Goddess universe, and is crossed over with an SI called "Oh! My Brother" by Christopher Angel.

"A Different Viewpoint" by the Olsens is the fic I was looking to read again when I found "A Certain Point of View." It starts off in Ranma, has a bit of Sailor Moon and even some Kung Fu: The Legend Continues thrown in for good measure. All and all a long and engaging read.

Greg Sharpp, aka metroanime is quite possibly one of the best SI authors I have ever read, and if I had to point to any one person who got me started on loving SI work it'd have to be him. Here's the page I use to re-read his works from time to time.

BTB wrote a series of "Locked Outa Love" stories that began with "Guest Ki" and have continued in "Ki Cutters." It's long, it's original, and it focuses more on the characters of the original series than the SI elements, and both are good. I warn you though, it's long; easily over 700,000+ words combined. Read and get lost in it at your own risk.

Cevn wrote an Oh My Goddess self insertion fan novel called "Trial By Tenderness." I warn you, it's over a million and a half words long. Don't go into this lightly. It's good, though, and worth the read. The ff.net page doesn't have all 123 chapters, though; you'll have to get the last ones (if you get that far) by using the Internet Archive, or you could ask me for them (I don't remember where I got mine).

Okay, I admit it, I watch Kim Possible. It's too bad there isn't any really great fanfiction for the show. Or is there? Rocinate has written a series of stories based on the premise of a sort of "Reverse Insert," in which the cartoon character comes to our world instead of visa versa. No, it's not a revenge fic. This series of stories are moving and even heartbreaking at times, and have set the bar so high as to completely ruin me for any Kim Possible fiction I've ever tried to read since. I honestly can't say enough good things about this story. The series follows as thus: Anything is Possible, Life with Kim, Steel Swan, and Gleam Surge.

Okay, while I might be scrapping the bottom of the barrel here, I do think this story deserves an honorable mention. "The Ballad of the Physics Police" by BobCat was inspired by "Insertion," and while it doesn't come out and say it's an SI piece, it has that feel to it. I enjoyed reading it, and was happy that I found it.

These are the best ones that I can think of off the top of my head that haven't been linked already. I've searched long and hard for good self insertions, so I'd like to think I'm something of an expert on the subject. ^_^

Enjoy!
