He's a destiny-warping demonic creature, who took over an empire knowledgeable of the supernatural. He can resurrect armies, read minds, and blow people up with a glance.
Balefire would probably kill him fine, but the sorcerers he fought (capable of hundreds-meter blasts and battlefield summons) considered his power to be pure reality-warping, not magic.

It's an attack which retroactively erases an object's "thread" from the fabric of existence.
A small blast, or "weave," will erase it from, say, the past few seconds. (Being completely arbitrary here.) A stronger one will have a longer effect. Characters have been brought back from the dead before because of balefire being used on their killers. The example of this is when Rand used a powerful attack of balefire on the Forsaken, Rahvin, who killed two characters (Mat and Aviendha) and it erased his previous attacks from time. (This one was an effect of a few hours, or so.) Can't remember if he was using his angreal at the time, or not. |
