1932
President Franklin Delano Roosevelt, at the urging of Albert Einstein, founds the town of Eureka in Oregon.

1947
A Vree starship crash-lands on Earth near Roswell, New Mexico. Later that year, during a secret UN meeting, the members found a secret international military force, X-COM, to study alien technologies and develop defense strategies against possible invasion. Since nothing much happens for the next fifty years, the organization lapses into obscurity, but is never actually disbanded.

1970
The Osaka International Expo is used as a front for construction beginning on new technological defenses for Toyko.

1981
The "Transfer and Response Omni Sphere” (TAROS), created by the Soviet Union, suffers an accident on December 24, 1981. Waves of TAROS particles erupted from the facility. Two waves were particularly powerful, the rapidly-dissipating Iota wave that caused the “mental pollution” of the people in Yamsk 11 and led them to kill each other and destroy the complex, and the Tau wave that spread over the entire world before dissipating, creating the Whispered.

1984
Khan Noonien Singh and Yuri meet for the first time. They will forge an unholy alliance in the Epsilon, an organization of genetically-enhanced supermen, psychics, and advanced horrific technology.

1988
Holland-based corporation Futuretech develops an energy based weapon that is instantly capable of rendering a person unconscious without fatal results, albeit painfully.

Epsilon forces steadily buildup from bases in Africa, South America, and Antarctica, as undercover agents and psychically brainwashed ‘sleepers’ assume positions of influence around the world.

When it looks like the Cold War was coming to an end, Mikhail Gorbachev was assassinated by an unknown person, his death marking the end of Perestroika.

A students’ protest turns violent in Tiananmen Square, kicking off the Chinese Civil War. By the time it ends as the year closes, the country has split into the People's Liberation Committee (North China) and the Democratic Chinese Alliance (South China) along the Yangtze River. Kowloon is North Chinese territory, while Hong Kong Island is held by South Chinese forces.

1989

The Cold War turns hot.

World War Three begins as the Soviet Union launches a massive assault into Western Europe. The Soviet AK-94 lasrifles make their debut, while the Western nations make use of the phased plasma guns.

Using forward bases in Indonesia, Malaysia, Thailand, and Papua New Guinea, Soviet forces launch an invasion of Australia. The Australians however, had spent years developing their armed forces because of their geographical isolation from their NATO allies and increasing hostile neighbors, and are able to hold the line, even though they lose one of their major bases located in Queensland.

A nuclear warhead headed for Sydney is intercepted by Philip Green, who sacrifices his life to ram into the warhead.

Israel’s new Gideon class helicopter, created under a self sufficiency initiative, using an experimental Connection For Flight Interface, which is called COFFIN due to its resemblance to its namesake, is murderously effective against invading Arab armies with Soviet equipment.

North and South Korea engage in a brutal war of attrition.
