The people of the planet looked up during the night and watched the flashes that dominated out in space. The remnants of their moon already floated in shattered chunks. The people of the world stared in shock as thousands vanished in flashes of white light, more and more dissapeared and soon entire cities were emptied and then the countryside as well. All around the world people vanished unknowing of the massive war raging in space above them.
Fleet group 1000 was currently fighting a losing battle against Confed ships as Fleet groups 100-500 beamed off the indiginous population. As the last of the ships now containing the population in their transporter buffers jumped out the last action came into being. A massive vessel nearly three times the size of the O'neill settled onto the planet anchoring itself to the surface. The vessel, completly unarmed, activated it's drive systems even as several other large devices settled onto the world activating massive structural integrity fields while activating Interia drives. Slowly, but still obvious the planet began to move, even as it gained the smallest amount of speed the massive hyperdrive kicked in and the planet vanised into hyperspace to be moved to another system. The shredded reamains of Fleet group 1000 vanished into hyperspace leaving for Replicator controlled space. This was the fourth world they had rescued from the Confederations non-existent mercies. And every time it cost them dearly in ships.

Year 5, Day 30
Grand Admiral's Log Operation Shadowhand has wound down due to fatigue of the A and B crews. Stepped up training of C, D, E, and F crews undertaken. The commissioning of new vessels from the SLV yards proceed on a daily basis. Export models of ships up to ISD IIIB standards have been made available on various markets. Local recruitment efforts have gone well, and a forerunner seeded Earth has become a partner in the Empire via plebiscite. Admiral Ayanami has expressed her satisfaction in the partnership by loaning her image and statement to Imperial recruitment efforts there, as she is still a citizen of that Earth. The personnel boosts have enabled me to keep production of military material at an acceptable level. On a more personal note, Rei has expressed her feelings in a rather more personal manner as of late. Not that I am minding one bit, for she has given me even more reasons to do more than survive this war. Log End |

One would think that a civilization as advanced as the Commonwealth would have done away with paperwork. Oh, if that were the case! It seems I spend most of my time these days in various administrative pursuits.
At the top of my pile was the Year 5 Order of Battle for the Commonwealth fleet. Our numbers were not as high as expected due to the heavy losses we had taken early in the fourth year from Mario, the Flood, and the ConFeds. Quote:
Promises of reform seemed to have steamed the tide of worlds leaving the Federation for the Empire or Commonwealth. I was actually glad to see that, as I had no intention to destroy the Federation, only reform it. The report also included information about the latest attempts of both Section 31 and Starfleet Intelligence to breach Commonwealth security. Suffice it to say, those attempts were unsuccessful. Project Looking Glass was showing great success. The first production tesseract devices should be ready for shipboard deployment within the next several weeks. Project Titans was also going well. The first battlegroup of Nightmares was finishing the final stages of pre-deployment workup. Scouts were currently seeking for our allies from the Imperium. There had been no sign of them in months. I was increasingly concerned about their fate. |

The first fleet was ready. The tech gleaned from his alter had been useful, but DigiCom had found a method to semi-automate ship construction by adapting Federation Genesis technology.
He called it the Hephaestus torpedo. A mixture of protomatter, replicator technology, and Commonwealth nanobots, properly programmed, that converted raw materials (asteroids, comets, etc) into fully-functional starships. And the torpedos had been busy. The first class of vessels they'd developed were upgraded battlestars, using more advanced shielding, weaponry, and power generation. Indeed, his flagship had been converted to the new standard, and rechristened Sleipnir. The new destroyers, led by the Fenris, came next. The organic looking vessels were only about a mile long, and specialized in anti-capship weaponry. The Fenris was already being deployed, but the Garm, Geri, and Freki were still in shakedown. A similar spaceframe, albeit somewhat blockier, was used for the ground-attack/troop carrier class, codenamed Skidbladnir. Thanks to some advanded gravitics, it was surprisingly agile, even in atmosphere. His captains believed that these classes were sufficient for combat operations, but there were two other classes that had become necessary. After long thought, the fleet commanders had agreed to develop resurrection technology, utilizing cunningly designed biological nanites called ODIN (Organically Distributed Intelligence Network) cells. DC and his command staff had even allowed themselves to be duplicated, although he tended to think of them more as his children than his siblings. But that meant Resurrection Ships. And in order to make them as secure as possible, the Valkyrie ships had been based on an old Cylon design, somewhat modified, and given heavy defensive shielding and armaments. Valhalla, the new Hub/flagship, was of a similar design, but six times larger. It was not expected to go to battle at all, but it did have an Omega-class weapon as a last resort. Now, it was time to go to work. Captain Picard watched the nebula from the window of his quarters. With the quieting down, at least a bit, of tension within the Federation he had been able to take a few hours to study the newly charted nebula. It pleased him that his heart was still that of an explorer.
Suddenly the captain's comm badge activated. "Crusher to Picard." "Picard here," Picard replied. "She's awake," Beverly said, great joy in her voice. Picard immediately made his way to the teleport pad in his sleeping room and reappeared near sickbay. He couldn't believe that the last victim of the original attack on the Enterprise had at least recovered. A smile on his face, the captain entered sickbay and saw Dr. Crusher performing a few routine tests on a patient who was sitting up at last. "How do you feel?" He asked. "Much better," the blond haired woman replied as she saluted her captain. "Lt. Tasha Yar, reporting for duty." "The only place you'll be reporting to for a while is this bio-bed," Dr. Crusher replied, glancing at Picard. Her message was clear. "What happened Captain?" Yar asked. "The last thing I remember is that bio-attack on the ship." "That's a long story. Once the good doctor prodounces you fit to return to duty come to my ready room and I'll tell you the whole thing," Picard said. Tasha sighed, but nodded. "Aye sir." "It's good to have you back with us." "Tell me one thing Captian. How long was I out for?" Yar asked. "Five years," Picard said, not surprised to see the surprise on his security chief's face. "Get well soon," he added as he left sickbay. He was very happy at this moment, the finaly member of his ship's family was at last back with them.
