Halo What If
The ship is completely intact but there are no crew onboard. Realising the potential benefits of some of the ships technology ONI take it back to Reach and begin examining its systems. How does this affect the war with the Covenant? |

Assuming by "upgraded" you mean "post-Asgard", they should be able to just ask the computer "make so and so". Notably, a lot better FTL. The UNSC could theoretically literally be able to bring their entire fleet to bear on a particular planet within seconds. This is assuming, of course, that the UNSC gets the FTL for their entire fleet. Even if they don't, though, we know that ships can tug others through hyperspace, if at reduced speed. This reduced speed is almost certainly going to be orders of magnitudes above UNSC slipspace, though. Another one would be FTL sensors. Major advantages over not using probes for FTL detection. Same with FTL communication. Shields and beaming for military technologies, as they seem to be easier to make than energy weapons.

The UNSC have a fighting chance at beating the covenant in space, which brings into question whether the Halo part of Halo happens at all. With victories in space over contested planets the UNSC would be able to focus on tracking down High charity and either forcing a surrender or killing off the prophets. A civil war may then ensue, or a rampage of the leaderless forces.
Certainly the war would take longer, with the covenant needing more time to build up a sufficient force to take on Reach and other strategic targets. Without some of the key battles such as Reach, there is some difficulty in predicting what happens with the Halo. Perhaps it is discovered only by the UNSC and the covenant are pushed back to the point where they never have a chance to try to activate the rings. Perhaps only the covenant discover it and set them off or unleash the flood. If humanity discovers it and the flood take over a Daedalus-class ship then everyone looses, btw. With teleportation the flood can take over every world both human and covenant.
