Sailor Moon fic recs.

Apparently, there are a decent number of Sailor Moon fans around here. So, recs thread.

It's an epic Sailor Moon/Ranma 1/2 which, (and this is a major selling point for me) barely involves Ranma at all (One does want a break form fukufics). .

The story features a metaplot that follows he SM them of the dichotomy between "victory at any cost" (outer senshi) and "always do the right thing" (inner senshi), as well as the more Ranma-ish question of following "duty" (Akane, Serenity, most of the Senshi) or "desire" (Ranma, Sailor [redacted], Sailor [redacted]).

It's one of the fics that really explores the the Silver Millenium; with a rather, ah, unique take on how the Silver Millenium's politics played out. It also does a excellent job of exploring just what Silver Imperium Arcanotech might be capable of.


Ten Times the Doctor met Sailor Pluto

Exactly what it says on the tin. It'll make you laugh, cry, and want to hug someone.


Fire's vengeance and a half is generally considered the best SM/Ranma cross written. Unfortunately, Fire disappeared from the internet some years ago, leaving this masterpiece unfinished.

This is a story of time travel gone horribly wrong, of good things twisted to evil, of the horror caused by good intentions married to poor communication and pride.

As a note, let's make this a nice thread and all explain why we're rec'ing a fic, kay?

lord ranma by chibbi reaper is also very good. this is a good comedy story, it has ranma raised in the dark kingdom and become a dark general. Like most of chibbi reapers ranma it has a more hardened ranma portrayed.

I'd suggest Strike Fiss' Sailor Moon: Omoi series, except that his current site is under construction and doesn't have the fics up, and his mirror was geocities... bits and pieces are floating around, but not enough to get a coherent story out of.

I've asked him if he can put up a mirror or even just the text files, so we'll see what happens.

Reflections of Ruin

One of the few fuku fics that does not make me gag, Reflections of Ruin crosses Ranma 1/2, Sailor Moon, and Lovecraftian horror. Sailor Saturn makes a lot more sense in this context, if you think about it. The power to end the world is necessary, if the world is being devoured by Eldritch Abominations.

You'll find a HELL of a selection here. It's a mirror of a long-gone Sailor Moon archive called "The Best Sailor Moon Fanfic on the Net." There are dozens upon dozens of excellent fics here, many of them now unavailable anywhere else on the internet. Yay for mirroring!

If you can brave a horrible Tripod-era site, Gradient's Sailor Moon fanfiction is really good.


Here are some individual fic recs:

Secondary Characters by Jon Carp -- Hard to explain, but let me try to summarize. After the end of the anime, the Outer Senshi gradually grow crazy, Sailor Pluto ends up with a twin sister named Barbara who's Sailor Charon, Setsuna decides that she should become evil, and everyone dies repeatedly. A lot better than I'm making it sound. Not... quite... crack, but definitely twisted.

Misconception by Dejana Talis -- In Crystal Tokyo, the birth day of Chibi-Usa arrives... but another, strange girl is born in her place. History has changed and no one takes it well, least of all newborn Chibi-Naru.

Hands Fall Together by Kihin Ranno -- Luna finds Mamoru before Usagi and suddenly it's Tuxedo Kamen who's leading the Sailor Senshi. An excellent AU and character study of Mamoru. If you're in the mood for an epic, check this story out. The author has many dozens of other Sailor Moon fanfics that are worth reading.

Suburban Senshi -- When Setsuna fails to predict the Enron collapse, the Outer Senshi are forced to sell their mansion and abandon high-class living for middle-class life in the suburbs. Only the first two, two and a half seasons are worth reading. After that the fic descends into IRC transcriptions. The stuff before that is gold, though.

Dark Kingdom Refugees and its sequel Thy Kingdom Come by Mark Latus -- Part of the Sailor Moon Expanded project, these are the stories of a group of four youma who escape the fall of the Dark Kingdom. They're not evil. They're just a family trying to get by. Really excellent OCs. The second story is about them and the Sailor Senshi entering a parallel universe where the Dark Kingdom won and took over the world.

Trenchcoat Mask by Frank Barr -- Another part of the Sailor Moon Expanded project. A retainer to Mamoru is resurrected in the present day, but he's been reborn the hard way. Rather than coming straight from the Silver Millennium to modern Tokyo, he's been born and reborn hundreds of times in the intervening centuries. Features an interesting look back at the Silver Millennium through the lead character's memories.

A Tokyo Senshi in Queen Rei's Court by John Biles -- Ami ends up in a world that's a fusion of Sailor Moon and Arthurian legends.

1101 by His lordship Chaos -- In the distant future, a cyberpunk Crystal Tokyo has swallowed up everything. The Inner Senshi are the puppets of the ruling organization called Shadowgate. Neo Queen Serenity is nothing more than a face seen on television propaganda. Youma walk the streets alongside humans. The Outer Senshi have been living in hiding for 200 years, and given up all hope. All that changes when a girl who may or may not be Rei Hino stumbles into their world. Shadowgate wants her dead. The Outers want answers. But when it all begins, the only clue to this girl's existence is the number 1101 branded on the back of her neck...

Tales of the Dreamworld by His lordship Chaos -- [A text copy with everything EXCEPT the final chapter is available here without the need for registration] -- When you close your eyes, other worlds appear around you. When you curl up under the covers and sleep, beautiful dreams are there for you to dance in. One by one, the Sailor Senshi shall visit a place somewhere between dreaming and awake, and become involved in a mystery and a war that will change both worlds forever...

Bleed (Just to Know You're Alive) by Evil Authoress, Inc -- Mamoru's gone back to college. When he faints after seeing an Usagi lookalike, he knows something is wrong. But he really has no idea, until his world continues to be turned upside down by frat boys. Just trust us.

What Evil Lurks -- Sailor Mercury is captured by Jadeite and turned evil, but that's only the start of the story...

One of my old favorites has been the 'Curse of the Fanboys!' series.

It's a hilarious parody self-insertion gone horribly wrong for the self inserts (yes, insertS PLURAL), but at the same time, oh so right.

Features:
- Mega universe crossover (set primarily in a distorted Sailor Moon universe.)
- Hungry, Super Deformed Godzilla Thingies
- Gratuitous mecha violence
- Explosions
- MORE explosions.
- Random Pummeling.
- Panty Raids
- Burbling Lake Gods
- The Remote Control of the Gods.
- Sanity (Or lack thereof)
- Newt Schnieder (who burps fireballs)
- Cross Dressing, Gender switching, Sailor Senshi fanboy in denial... (Even though he wants to know if those heels make him look fat... ^_^; )
- Daily decimation of the Tokyo skyline.
- The fourth wall is merely a curtain.
- Murphy's Law, in full swing, full throttle, overdrive, and at Afterburner.
- Hilarity, in spades.... or rather, train loads.
- Fifty times your daily allowed dosage of Kawaii in the form of absurdly cute, well endowed girls from the future and their little bouts of utter destruction of your kawaii little bedroom-chan.

Contrast Match

Just about the only "let's pair Ranma up with a sailor scout" fic that i find at all credible. Ranma decides all engagements are off, moves to juuban, blah blah blah you know the drill. Features the most like-able Pluto I've read yet.

Contrast Match

I've started to read that more than a few times as generally, I like weebees fics and the summary appeals to me, but never made it passed the first few chaps. It just seems so off somehow.

John Biles and Jeff Hosmer's Sailor Moon Z and its sequelae, Dance of Shiva and Black Moon Rising.

SMZ is an excellent piece of work, epic in length and scope (as Sailor Moon should be), covering a full season's worth of adventure as the Senshi face off with yet another new enemy. (Replaces Season 4 of the anime).

Spoiled Brats Based on the live-action series 'Pretty Guardian Sailor Moon', this little crossover stars Ranma Saotome as Kunzite, and he's Not Happy.

I'd actually wondered why nobody ever did a Haruka/Ranma fic because the pairing is perfect for that exact reason if Haruka could come to actually accept Ranma's male side too. Which would in turn make her a less 1D Butchy McButchdyke character.

Actually I can recall 1 or 2 Haruka as Ranma fanfics out there.

At one point or another I was involved with the Ranmoon project which was one that was planned to write in Ranma as every one of the canon Senshi. The goroup in itself sort of petered out at one point or another. I vaguely recall one of the members doing a couple of drafts of one such fanfic. Idl have to check with Andrew Morris (Mageohki)who was also involved in the project if he recalls this or not. And I may still have some files related to the project but they are currently in a series of no doubt decayed beyond usability zip disks in Guatemala at my parents house.

True, but Haruka-as-Ranma isn't really any different than the Ranma-as-OC-Senshi; the only real change is what she calls out to transform. But Haruka-and-Ranma fics have the potential to be very interesting, as Contrast Match was.

there's another one I'd love to rec but I'll be damned if I rember it's title much less where it is. what should have been Wiseman makes it to the past in order to stop the creation of Crystal Tokyo and save Sailor Moon from Serinity. you get bits and pieces from his journey thru time in scribbleing of his left behind, he's also responcible for takeing a HUGE chunk of Beryl's forces at the end, even get's into a fight with Pluto so that he can 'finally' win. has some OC/Mars tones and the epilog has his innocent timeline self, that knows nothing of what's come before and is still getting to the level of power the one who came back had, getting his fight interupted by Senshi and then getting slapped and then glomped by Sailor Mars as she scolds him for dissappearing on her.

There are a few out there from what I recall...

But the majority of them involve Ranma as Michiru/Neptune...or the equivalent as is the case with Contrast match...
