I voted Borg. The pre-Voyager Borg who weren't stupid or weak or idiotic. I say them because they would assimilate the others and make their distinctness part of their greater collective - much like that Valdemar thingy.

It was Shivans or Nephilems. I had to choose Nephilems, because they realy impressed me, when they showed up.

Man, the borg used to be so cool, they were well nigh unstoppable, you could not reason with them/negotiate with them, if you had something they wanted you were assimilated, period. Then we come to find out that they are led by a sex-starved egomaniac, and something in the air in the Delta Quadrant makes them idiots.

The Nephilim? Impressive? LOL!
When they show up in WC5, dozens of their fighter squadrons are EASILY defeated by the rookie pilots of the TCS Midway, and during the last two episodes of Secret Ops, 2 or 3 of their capships and dozens of fighters are eliminated by the Cerberus' fighter squad per mission.

The Shivans on the other hand scared the hell out of the Terrans. When they first appeared in FreeSpace1, they couldn't even be targeted by Terran fighters, and Terran weapons were almost totally ineffective against their shields (which Terrans didn't even have at that time).
In FS2 , there is a mission where the GTVA engages the Shivans with their advanced capships for the first time, destroying a few light Shivan cruisers, believing that they finally have the firepower to handle them, at the end of which a Shivan Ravana class destroyer appears and blasts the Terran capships into pieces within a few seconds.
Now THAT's impressive.

The Dominion.

and not the wimpy trek dominion, I mean the Dominion of the Drakka. They are truly frightening, not because of what they can accomplish (although crossing universes is pretty slick) but because, in many ways, they're US.

Otherwise, I'd have to pick the Shivans.

Ok I have just...6 words to say.

Oh My God! It's The Lucifer!!

No species, not borg or shadow or dominion or anything, scared my ass off the way the Shivans did. The Eva, and her reign of terror against the GTA and PVN Fleets, the Lucifer's bombardment of Vasuda, and the climactic battle scene where the Lucifer is destroyed.

Then we come to FS2. Advanced Beam cannons, flak turrets, shields, Helios missiles that put the Harbinger warheads to shame. And the Shivans. Massive Ravana-class Destroyers and Sathanas-class Juggernauts. And then of course, the FS2 ending cutscene. Plot holes galore, but scary as shit.

*VoK is blowing Shivan after Shivan apart, desperatly trying to save the hospital ships and troop transports.*
* A GTVA cruiser is destroyed by Taurvi bombers*
* Several Troops ships are destroyed as a Seriphlim attack wing flanks the defenders*
* Closing to the node, 8000meters and closing.*
*Suddenly, The Capella star has gone Nova! This is GTVA Command, signing off. Godspeed pilots!*
* VoK wets himself*

And lets not forget the Knossos portal beyond the nebula.

DIVE! DIVE! DIVE! Hit your burners pilot!

The Borg, before Voyager came along. The shadows were creepy, but the borg gave you nightmares.

The Dommies kicked ass and took names until the wormhole aliens destroyed a Dominion reinforcement taskforce. If the Wormhole Aliens hadnt of interfered the Dominion would ruling the entire alpha quadrant by now.

You can say that, but first computer game I ever played were Wing Commander. After that Wing Commander comes allways first, allthough, Freespaces are the only other thing in scifi that I dont get bored with(Okay, we have B5, but it didn't make me feel the same way, neither did SW). And now I didn't meant scifi books. No one can get bored to books.

The Kilrathi are not scary but they ate up an ambassador from Confederation when he tried to negotiate peace with them they sended back the parts they didn't like. I don't want to end like that.

The most scary would be race are either the Shadows or the Shivans.
