House Atredies: Good guys, noble, virtuous, brave fighters. House Harkonnen: Bad guys, everything else House Corrino: Basically the house that rules the Imperium. House Ordos: Deceptive, don't know if they're anywhere besides games. House Vernius: Controllers of Ix, the tech juggernauts. House Richese: who are they? Emperor of the Fading Suns House Hawkwood: Atredies, I'm pretty sure. House Al Malik: Sly merchants, adventurers, Machiavellian realpolitik House Decados: Harkonnen, basically. House Hazat: Hot-headed Latin duelers. House Li Halan: Once sinful, now intensely pious and disciplined. Anyone else?

The Centauri of the Babylon 5 universe have lots of different "Houses", but we don't know as much about them as we do about the Dune ones.

I nominate House Maclintlock, from the "March" Quartet by John RIngo and David Weber.
And the House of Carter, from the "Barsoom" books by Edgar Rice Burroughs. They're not really galactic, but they have so much cool they might as well be.

Ariga Bostich Gonozal Ragnaari Zoltral Plus a few dozen others within range to throne... and several hundred more just a step down or two. All in all, somewhere around 5000 families.
