Culture vs Photino Birds

After reading 'Vacuum Diagrams' (I just got it today, woohoo!) and specifically the epilogue, I wondered if it would be possible for the Culture to defeat the Photino birds, or alternatively find an end to the war between the Photinos and the Baryon-dwellers?

FIght the Birds? Well, first off, they only interact with baryonic matter via gravity, therefore, only linegun and displaced mini hole can be used against them. (Forget Effectors or Gridfire..)

In a straight fight, it's very hard to say, we didn't see enough of Photino Birds. Their weapon is stated to be able to penetrate even the best of the Xeelee defense. They also vastly outnumbered Xeelee, who in turn also outnumbered Culture.

However, The Birds and Culture might actually peacefully co-exist together. Since any GSV can easily host thousands upon thousands of people, and Culture has the ability to construct a lot more of those GSV, they don't really need the sun. Let the Birds have their Jovin mini-gravity well and supernove, while We Culture can live an easy , if a bit nomadic life.

However, if the "fundamantal sturggle between the Barynoic and Photion matter" really exist, then wars might eventually break out, and the Whole universe would lay in ruin. (That, or Culture sublime , or find the exession pops up out of no where..)

The photino birds don't really have a weapon.
When ever they come in contact with a deep gravity well, they interact with baryonic matter. They use the energy of the gravity well to reproduce. In doing so, they also take some of the heat energy from the gravity well. When this happens on the large scale(say 1,000,000 times every second) you start to reduce the core temperature of the gravity well. This is what caused the stars to go nova. The fusion reaction stopped, the star collasped and the pressure caused it to start again briefly, blowing off the outer layer(in doing so, destroying everything in the star system inside the orbit of Mars in a sol type system)

Ah, but they do have weapons. As firmly mentioned in Vacuum Diagrams, the birds utilised gravity to break The Ring, and later on to construct huge structures from the stars and superclusters.

But too little is known to make an accurate comparison, other than the Birds thrashed the Xeelee, and entirely outnumber the Culture.
