I'll third that vote. Aside for decent tools, a secure home camp, and enough food in the larder to last us a while, we really need to locate other humans to prevent in-breeding problems.

Edit: Preferably we can locate at least four other villages in the coming years, along with reliable rumors of other villages further away.

Getting the population up is a good way to start a civilisation.

About Berserk's slightly different voting, I'd like to suggest that after we research better tools*, we go straight to a mix of the women foraging, while the men hunt easy game.

* Nice short-term goals for tools would be sharpened bone/rock tipped spears for hunting and defense, and simple wood baskets for foraging and food storage.

Speech would speed that up.
Depending if the GM would allow that, if not then im with tools

My only issue with speech or hand gestures is such concepts will likely take weeks to develop and teach even the most basic set to the tribe as a whole. Its a great idea that should be addressed within the first year, but before that or any other efficiency boost the tribe will need to get some insurance against nasty deaths by starvation or carnivorous beast.

True that. I guess after food and drink, tools, and language 101 would come basic hunting and tracking techniques so the tribesmen can coordinate to reduce the incidence of prey escaping?

Ryuan, how long is the period of time between each choice? And does our tribe have any supplies beyond an unknown number of rocks, sticks, and bones? Depending on how much food we already have, we might be able to get away with multiple quick developments to make our field actions far more effective.

Everything will take at a whole season to consolidate. Your research speed is quite low for now.

This season the big bright thing waaayyy above your heads was mostly hot, with the odd cold nights once in a while.

You decided to use your time by exploring the region you are with. You could see that the stream becomes bigger and seen to keep going forever, while the trees around you become denser in a certain regions, more or less blocking the passage unless you try really hard in going though them. All trees look so tall, and there are few open places.

During this season you managed to locate yourself well enough to go for a while and back towards the tribe.

You also stayed for a while with the female population of the tribe. The older females thought it strange since you aren't there to take a mate. You're actually want to at some point, but you mostly want to see what they do on their own time when not eating with the rest of the tribe.

You found out there isn't much different than staying with the males. One or two older males took certain specific females as mates and are fiercely territorial/protective of them, and last year a male disputed with the strongest tribe member while trying to defend his claim.

He died in the ensuing fight, but the rest of the tribe found out that unless you're really stronger than the other, when a male go to a certain length in protecting his claim it's better to back off unless you also really want the female. Then again, you have the impression this is in general rare to happen, since most of the time whoever wants and can, just take it.

While trying to interact more with the females, you see that some of them looks at you like the male look at them. It's a bit unnerving.

Low? Given the time frame we are working at, any developments we make within a mere season are astoundingly fast. So which group action did we perform?

By the time I wrote this, tools were winning.

Some time hunting and gathering with whatever your tribe find in the ground and having poor results, you try to ask them why don't find something better. They told you to fuck off, and make some 'things' yourself (not with some much words or the exact idea, but it was close). So you did.

After much thinking and trial and error, you came up with spears, knifes made of bones and stones, and even a small axe.

You found out those things can be used for something else other than hunting too, like gathering or easily cutting meat, fruits and other things. It's still quite frail, but better than before. Too bad they mostly discard those things, but now everyone know how to make the basic tools.

I'm going to back the votes for improving upon speech, so long as the tribe doesn't think we are slacking off too much on the hunting and foraging.

Likewise lets keep exploring and socializing with the ladies. And yes, romance is something to keep in mind for our avatar. He is at the right age for such interests, and there are women that are attracted to him in turn.
