A Familiar Pain (ZnT thread #22)

  1. Kyte Nya!

    On the other hand, is there some other way to show off a LoL character? In the end, every character's drawn from the same template, so the snippets end up similar.
    Unless you start mixing it up with slice of life or random wackiness or similar, ie drop the shock & awe (plus oversaturation leads to desensitization, so yeah)

    v-- It's Kyte. Yes it's a bad pun. Should I put the relevant avatar?
  2. mdkcde Not good enuff.

    1- I sure hope Dermonster continues it, I didn't download the Persona 4 OST just to it can gather digital dust in my hard drive.

    2- The same that will happen/happened to Crisis of the Infinite Saitos, burned out due to having more ideas and "Stuff I like that I want to put into it" rather than plot.

    3- Stupid Dog, *boom* etc.

    Also, didn't you have a certain fic to work on? >:3

    Go with Kyte's idea.

    Slice of life bits where funnier, like the one with that great warrior dude that wanted to be a cook. And was a great cook.

    Or go completely off rails in your snippets, the best ZnT stories out there are the ones that go Off-Rails
  3. Sliverlord Just waiting for you to walk by.

    Alrighty then, going to change format. I have to agree, it was getting hard to write those (As I said, I'm going to stop writing when 3/4ths asleep.)

    I'll be decommissioning the one on the last page. Still want to use that advertisement, and Teemo. Don't want to waste it.
  4. Zhead Sanity in question

    Well, here's the next Sparda bit.

    ---

    "No." Sparda replied bluntly. "A duel would be a waste of time. Rather than blame me for your own faults, go apologize to the two girls yourself. You may learn something." With that, he walked away from one Guiche du Gramont and the rest of the 'nobles' watching them.

    "Ha! So you are just a coward then." The blond proclaimed, and laughed along with the other teens there. Sparda stopped, and smiled slightly.

    "Boy, there is a difference between cowardice and wisdom. Your inability to tell the difference shows you lack the latter." He waited, then continued. "And your taunting is worse than a womans', just so you know." He wasn't lying. That priestess had quite the vocabulary. He heard the boy sputter. "On second thought boy." He spun around. "I accept your duel." The students gaped at him. Guiche shook himself, then smirked.

    "Fine, meet me in Vestri Court in fifteen minutes. I will teach you to respect your betters." Sparda merely smirked. As the crowd left, he began to walk towards the court, only to have Louise grab his arm.

    "Ah, Louise. How are you doing?"

    "No time, you need to apologize to Guiche." He stared at her, then chuckled.

    "And why should I apologize to him?" Louise stared at him, aghast.

    "He's a noble! He'll kill you! You have a sword, but he has magic!" Sparda chuckled again.

    "Louise... Please. I've seen worse than a child pretending to be a warrior."

    ---

    "I see you didn't run." Guiche crossed his arms, a smug expression on his face. Sparda kept smiling.

    "Like anyone would run from a boy throwing a tantrum. Well, shall we have a fun little 'duel' then?" Guiche gritted his teeth, but then smirked and waved his wand, a single petal falling to the floor. A metal valkyrie shot up from where it landed, the sun glistening on it's body.

    "My name is Guiche du Gramont, son of a General. But my runic name is Guiche the bronze. And thus, your opponent will be my bronze valkyrie." The metal being then rushed at the man. Sparda stood still, watching the approaching golem, and just stepped out of the way as it rushed past him, still facing Guiche. The golem stopped, and charged again. Louise was about to yell a warning, but just as the valkyrie reached him, it stopped. The people present had to run their eyes. What they saw was just that unbelievable.

    Sparda had not turned to look at the golem, still looking at Guiche, boredom on his face. He had, however, moved his arm back to grab the golems' fist. Though other than that, he had not moved an inch, not did he appear to be exerting himself in anyway. "Is that all?" He raised the golem into the air, and then smashed it on the ground in front of him. He dusted his hands, then took a step forward. "Boy, this 'duel' is hardly worth fighting. I thought it would be a good spar, but this is disappointing. Apologize for your actions, and you can go without the extra shame." Of course, said warning just angered the boy. As three more golems - these ones armed - approached the disguised devil, Sparda sighed.

    The resulting 'battle' was so generic in his eyes and ours that it is not worth mentioning.

    ---

    Before anyone screams OOC, as far as I have checked, Sparda was like a mix of Vergil and Dante. He had Dante's playful banter and rebelliousness, and Vergil's cold attitude when fighting. This was hardly a fight.
  5. If it helps, I'm liking the Karin route a great deal more.

    ~~~~~~FOOL Part 4~~~~~~
    Louise wanted to scream, she wanted to pull her hair in frustration, she wanted her world to make sense!
    “You have to be a noble!” she didn't care that her voice came louder than was proper for a noble. She hadn't been able to see it happening, but she felt the frightening power that came from Rock and she saw the results of a spell that didn't use any incantation! Louise had seen her explosions cause all kind of mayhem and damage but, compared to what a real spell could do... she was happy her spells never ended on a tragedy. The spell Rock had used... the destructive power on that first spell left behind a crater big enough to hold Mother's Manticore within.
    It must have been at least triangle level fire magic to cause so much destruction!
    Only a noble could use that kind of power!
    If a commoner could do that much... no, it was impossible!
    “That staff of yours!” Louise blurted, her hands grasping the thin air as if trying to hold onto an idea just beyond her reach.
    “I'm curious too, miss Rock. I certainly remember seeing blue spells being fired from your staff,” professor Colbert said and Louise nodded several times, glad to have her professor point the obvious.
    “Not a staff,” came the simple reply.
    “But it has to be a staff!” Louise cried. Sure, it was the oddest staff she had ever seen, but what else could it be?
    “Hmm, my young lady, if it isn't a staff, what is it?” Headmaster Osmond asked, leaning a little forward.
    A tired sigh. “Cannon.”
    “Cannon?”
    “Cannon.”
    There was a moment of silence while the four mages tried to wrap their minds around the bizarre possibility. They didn't have much luck.
    “But, a cannon uses ammunition, how can you even load, I mean, what kind of- never mind,” miss Longueville coughed to the side, finally realizing she had spoken out of turn.
    Louise was about to say something when the Headmaster talked before her. “That's a very good question. Jean says he saw blue spells being cast from your “cannon”; what was it then?”
    Instead of replying, Rock pulled the metallic staff forward and showed the end at the ancient mage. Louise felt the color leave her face at the blatantly aggressive gesture but the white haired man didn't seem to mind at all. Rock tipped down the end of the staff so it was pointing at the desk and used her other hand to grasp something on the end held higher.
    There was a click, and a clank and then Louise realized something small was rolling down from within the staff. The metal created a very unique noise that enthralled the pinkette. At least something fell on the desk with a solid and light clunk.
    Rock placed her staff on the ground over one of its ends and then moved forward to pick up the little black thing.
    “This,” she whispered, presenting the thing to the headmaster. It was black and smaller than her pinkie's nail.
    “Is this... a black pebble?” the headmaster whispered, showing the little rock to professor Colbert. The balding man took the rock, muttering to himself.
    Rock nodded to the headmaster and then crossed her arms under her nonexistent chest.
    “You could store hundreds of these within that weapon,” the professor finally said. “The mechanism within would only need to make it move at enough speed to cause the friction required to ignite the pebbles?” Louise could only stare, unable to believe what she was hearing.
    A little pebble had caused all that destruction? No, this had to be a very bad dream. A nightmare even! A commoner threw pebbles! A mage used spells, not a cannon! It had to be a staff!
    In her discussion with herself, Louise didn't notice when professor Colbert tried to see how he could fit the little pebble on the standing cannon.
    “If you are not a Noble, then what are you, miss Rock?” Headmaster Osmond inquired and Louise and Colbert snapped their attention back to the ancient mage.
    “Not a noble,” was the immediate reply.
    “Then what are you?!” Louise snapped, feeling a burning heart rushing to her cheeks. “How do you expect us to believe anything you say when you come with such impossible tales?!”
    “Hmm, a mercenary perhaps?” Colbert asked, patting the large black staff. Rock simply shrugged a little.
    “I am Black Rock Shooter. Nothing more,” the young girl whispered tiredly.
    “A half breed then? Some kind of half-elf or something?” Louise muttered darkly, stopping only when she felt her professor's hand landing on her shoulder with a little more weight than should have been strictly necessary.
    “Well then, I think this simplifies matters,” Osmond nodded to himself, stroking his long beard, and looked over to Louise. “Miss Vallerie, I think it's time you finish the binding ritual.”
    It took Louise a few heartbeats to realize what had happened. She had been so sure that Rock was a noble that the repercussions of subjugating another noble to her will had weighted heavily on her mind, keeping her meekly subdued. But if Rock was just a commoner, then all of her worries had been for nothing.
    Founder Brimir had given the Nobles the gift of Magic to protect and rule over the Commoners, who no matter their numbers and weapons could never match to a single Dot Mage. The Commoners in turn were to obey their betters.
    As a commoner, Rock should feel privileged to serve a mage of such noble house like the Vallerie family. They were second only to the Royal Family of Tristain! Rock would no longer have to use those brutish weapons and she would be able to afford clothes that didn't make her look like a cheap prostitute!
    “This means letting myself become a slave, right?” Rock suddenly asked and Louise gasped at the blatant disregard of the respect the nobles in the room deserved.
    “Of course not! You'll just become my Familiar!” Louise replied hotly, taking deep breaths to calm herself down.
    “No, no, my young lady. It means you would become miss Vallerie's companion. You would need to look for reagents and protect her in case of need.”
    “I don't care wasting my time here,” Rock said, looking at the headmaster in the eyes. “Sorry.”
    “How dare you!” Louise shouted, taking out her wand.
    “I'm terribly sorry, miss Rock, but it is tradition. The mage needs to bind the summoned familiar,” Colbert tried to make Rock see reason but the pale girl shook her head no.
    “Not my traditions,” the pale girl said with a careless shrug.
    “I'm afraid you have no choice here, miss Rock. This is a sacred rite that needs to be fulfilled,” Osmond said.
    “Summon somebody else,” Rock told him flatly.
    “You stupid commoner!”
    “Miss Vallerie can't summon a new familiar unless... unless the previous one dies,” Colbert said.
    “Not my problem.”
    “You should show more respect for yo-.”
    “I will leave now then.”
    “Are you even listening to me?!”
    “No.”
    Louise recoiled as if she had been struck.
    Rock... Rock didn't even pretend... she just... there was no emotion, no disgust, no mocking... Just a dismissal, as if Louise were nothing.
    Even as she leveled her wand towards Rock's head, Louise's mind was filled with the voices of her tormentors, taunting her, asking if she was going to let her opportunity escape her grasp. After years of failure upon failure, she finally had her chance at hand. A girl who was going to be her Familiar, who would become the absolute proof Louise was truly a noble. That she was her parents' daughter, a Vallerie!
    Louise wasn't going to let her go. She would never let Rock go!
    FIREBALL!” she poured every ounce of emotion within that single spell. Years of despair, hope, anger and everything in between were forced into a single moment, into a single expression of power.
    There were cries of alarm cutting through the curtain of soot that her spell kicked up, and she could hear pieces of furniture falling around her. Louise ignored it all, looking around the ground for the place where Rock must have fallen. While her explosions weren't lethal, they still carried enough impact to leave a person unconscious. Now she simply needed to finish the ritual and everything would be the way it was always meant to be!
    Louise froze at the sound of somebody blowing the smoke away with their breath. She could only blink as Rock started to fan the black clouds away from her face, looking as if she hadn't been in the middle of an explosion of pure magic.
    Louise started to whisper, raising her wand once again. “How can you b-.”
    The world suddenly looked wrong from Louise's perspective. She had to blink a couple of times before realizing she was on the ground, her cheek pressed against the cold stone, her arms pined behind her back against something that kept pressing her down.
    “Release my student!” she heard professor Colbert shout and she managed to twist her head to see the balding professor with his staff and a spell ready, professor Osmond a few steps back with his own wand at the ready and miss Longueville by the corner, her hands kept down, her wand pointing to the ground.
    “I will leave now, then,” she heard above her and she noticed the black boot next to the other side of her head. She saw a black hand reaching down and picking up the musket that had fallen to the ground when the headmaster's desk was destroyed by her Fireball. She felt the weight lifting off her back and Louise immediately scrambled to her feet, raising her hand against Rock before she noticed she was holding only half of her wand. There were still blue and white embers burning on the end of the wood.
    Rock nonchalantly picked up her staff and started to walk towards the office's door. There was a click before the pale girl could twist the doorknob and Louise saw Headmaster Osmond lowering his wand.
    “Miss, I must ask you to stay for a short while longer. I'm sure we can all reach an agreement everybody can be happy with,” the ancient mage said comfortably, pointing towards one of the chairs that remained undamaged.
    Rock sighed tiredly, shaking her head. For a long moment, Louise dared hope the other girl would turn around and walk towards the mages but instead Rock pulled her neck to the side until something popped within.
    “No.”
    And just like that, her body broke away in black and blue sparks, disappearing out in thin air.
    There was a moment of silence before the three adults looked at each other, questions passing between the three of them. At least, a little mewl came from Louise's lips before the pink haired girl fell to her knees, curling in herself and clenching her eyes shut.
    Her life as a Noble was over.
  7. Shinji117 Endless Troller
    I hope that means that this isn't the end, 'cause it's far too well written and engaging to end like this. Also, I blame you for drawing BRS to my attention, as now I have yet ANOTHER thing to distract me from what I should be doing.
  8. Zelinko Indexing The Index
    I might have time to work one of my snipps here but should I try to work on the Parsee one or the Fairy Trio one... I just got a feeling I can't fly off the seat of my pants here as easily as I did with Koishi at Hogwarts.. (Should get back to writing that honestly.)
    Parsee's more random scatter shot scene ideas. Although with her past I worry they could become dark because well honestly she's a bit... unhinged when dealing with relationships that she'll encounter. Although her listing in a scene WHAT is making her jealous about a person in a listing dramatic listing during a battle or something could be cool.
  9. Kyte Nya!
    So thinking about LoL during lunch gave me an idea. How about sorta-reversing the crossover: The Halkeginian nations are the newest inductees into the Institute of War, where the brightest and greatest are selected to participate in a tournament to mediate disputes in lieu of outright war. Tristain is small, but her representative has literally blown through the competition, and has been granted a spot in the hallowed halls of honor.
    Meet the League of Legend's newest Champion: Karin, the Heavy Wind!
  10. AzureGrimoire Could it possibly be rewritten, that fate of hers?
    I just wondering...
    What if something like this happen in Halkeginia...
    [yt]ybKmPtj8KMU[/yt]
    But without the mechs and only with magic...
    Edit: I think the mechs should be introduced... it feels weird without those...
  11. I've said this before but I think that Louise's explosion could be lethal if she really wants them to be. It just doesn't make sense how she could blow up a thick stone wall into bits of rubble and leave a person practically unharmed.
    It was fun seeing them try to reason with Rock. Like their traditions and customs matter in the long run.
    They would be wary on how a 'commoner' could have weapons that could rival or surpass that of a mage. Fear of losing power and all that crap.
    I can see Colbert studying the slug in that its made of a metal unknown and won't melt by even the most powerful of his fire spells.
    That girl my not be what they consider a Noble but she's superior to them in every way. (I'm exaggerating since I don't know anything about Black Rock Shooter, plan on it though.)
    I feel sorry for Louise. I can understand her plight but she is going about it all wrong. Terrible mind set. I blame her upbringing.
    I honestly thought Rock would clear the smoke away with a release of energy. You know DBZ style. Shows how much I know about this.
    Hope we get to see some action. How much damage could Rock cause in just a minute? Like level the Academy?
  12. nope, Louise never blew up the wall. She just removed the enchantment on the stone and then the Golem punched through it. Her mini boomies are shown to be able to knock down a table, so I kept that in there, I only exaggerated its power. They aren't enough to harm a person, even when she's pouring her emotions into the spell, as shown later on.
    Colbert tried to be "reasonable" to a degree a noble is capable of, but as he showed in the novels, he still falls in the traps other nobles do. Saito was just a commoner so his opinion doesn't matter and he has to become a familiar. Here he tried to talk reason with Rock but she just doesn't give a damn.
    There will be some action in the next section. There's a maid who already has an Otherself like Rock, and she's been alone for a while, unable to really meassure the extent of her powers. It can get fun
    [IMG]
    For how much damage, that depends of what weapon she uses. Anything she uses, the mages would be dead within the first two seconds and Rock wouldn't need to even aim. The Photon Shower -a starlight breaker that focus all the power at one point and then explodes-, the Genocider -stupidly long energy blade- and the Zantetsuken Messer could probably destroy part of the school as a side effect of being used inside the place.
  13. mdkcde Not good enuff.
    They ain't catching her anytime soon.
    Looks at maid: oh, this should be fun..
    Paradoxes are powerful, and can sponge damage like it ain't a big deal, probably wolverine style (if the Anime teaser is right, dunno about the games)
  14. Considering that Dan is using the Battle Fantasia versions? They are far beyond Wolverine. At one point in a snip Dan did for the Paradoxes, Rock got vaporized. She was back on her feet in minutes.
    Paradoxes can regenerate from any level of damage as long as two conditions are met. First, their Soul is intact. Second, they have the ability to remember and acknowledge their own existence. So what this means is you need either magic strong enough to reach down to the Soul or the ability to cause stupid amounts of pain to put a Paradox down.
  15. Jomasten Ham of medium proportions
    @dan
    You know, I'm half expecting Dragonslayer to appear right before Rock leaves, and tell her that this world (Halkeginia) did not have a Other World before Rock came. And, because BRS was summoned, that Halk has begun developing its own Other World, with Rock the Overself, like Dragonslayer.
    To the shock of everyone present. Including Rock.
    Y'know, just to be a troll.
  16. mdkcde Not good enuff.
    Was that why Dan opposed the idea of the Persona cross in Battle Fantasia?
    Because Adachi managed to beat Black Gold Saw?
  17. in the games:
    Nigh Invulnerability: B★RS can survive lasers, energy bullets, ordinary bullets, missiles, blade slashes, body slams of 3-meter-tall Mecha-Mooks, crashing at 300 kmph into said mooks...
    Also, at one point, Rock stabs Sing Love through the heart while Love is saying her monologue about how the genocide of the planet was just a little game for her. Love simply looks back at Rock with an expression of "Really? Are you interrupting me?" and she walks away, letting her steps remove the meter of sword sticking from her chest.
    that does sound fun X3
    EDIT:
    nope, I was always for the Inaba team to be in.
    There was a person who objected to Saw getting beaten by Adachi, but it was explained why. I think it was the same person who objected to the entire Paradox team getting trashed by Signum.
  18. Jomasten Ham of medium proportions
    Not beat.
    Distracted her long enough to run away like a coward pissing his pants about to get explosive diarrhea. And making himself look like he was the big man from RUNNING AWAY from BGS.
    I have to admit, I'll see that fight all in Adachi's perspective, just a bit.
    But, Rock took Saw's BFS right through the damn torso, and was piled on by debris that was very heavy.
    I doubt Adachi's going to put down ANY Black Paradox just because he did what was essentially kicking them childishly in the shin.
  19. mdkcde Not good enuff.
    EH? you can't do that!
    What about Mato? or even Yomi!. Think of Dead Master Dan! Think of Dee. If she doesn't get her BRS fix we are all going to die!.
    SHE WILL DESTROY US ALL!
    [yt]PT-9abkWqt8[/yt]
    I must have confused him with you, I'm sorry.
  20. Kuranzyan the Blightwalker
    Correct me if I'm wrong, but in that sense Paradoxes are basically less omnicidal versions of Darth Sion, minus absurd Force powers.
    *nods*
  21. Jomasten Ham of medium proportions
    Easy.
    Dee brute forces her way to become the queen to Rock's 'King'. She's got the wedding veil for it! :)
    And they all lived happily ever after! :D
    EDIT:
    You will all now imagine Rock's outfit changing to superficially resemble that of Saber's own from Fate/Stay Night.
  22. mdkcde Not good enuff.
    Yeah, but how much time AFTER the murderous rampage will that happen?
  23. Jomasten Ham of medium proportions
    ...Goddamnit.
    I can't help but think that, to Dead Master, a murderous rampage is her equivalent of acting out like a helpless kitten who wants attention, and is mewing mournfully in an adorable manner to be given some affection.
  24. Only with more blood and scattered body parts.
  25. Lifelink Breaking a dragon's heart? That's a paddling.
    I find Azula from A:tLA to be a hilarious bad end roller-coaster if she was ever summoned to be a familiar.
