    Of course, the IS being unable to make Clan tech in the Jhaid timeframe is entirely arbitrary as by this point in time, with at least two Clans on friendly terms, the Dragoons chugging out Clan tech for some time, the smashing of the Smoke Jagaurs and looting of anything left over on Huntress, the Diamond Sharks selling to anyone with credits to spare and so on - to say nothing of the clear ability to repair things like Victors Omnimech over and over with brand new Clantech as he keeps mashing it up in the 3050s!!

    I watched an awesome house campaign a guy came up with mid Jhiad called just that; 'Clantech', which was about several new WOB factories going online that were starting to churn out the most awesome of Clantech in large amounts thanks to all the salvage they had stolen and put their minds to reverse engineering. And so a combined national task force, ala an even more awesome 1st Somerset Strikers with a customized Fox Class Corvette and a whole lot of guts, went on a deep raiding spree to knock out the secret factories and loot as much of their machine tools as possible.

    That was an awesome campaign, frantic and crazy fast, with a furious MD commander on their tails and an incredibly mixed crew from Davion nobility to Clanner wisecracks...good times, good times...

    I don't think the JJs or TAG are really necessary for him. He's supposed to stay as far away as possible, and not be seen by anyone, and the TAG implies that there's support for him, instead of him being alone to kill ludicrous numbers of targets by himself. On top of that, one head shot per 10 seconds seems slow, how about two?

    Two ERPPCs have much less heat than 4xERLLs, while at the same time, they have unlimited ammo so you can hit as many things as you find. It's also a head shot every 5 seconds or less.
  4. I like the gut-raping punch of two MRM40s, but you really wanna throw in the Apollo so you won't be wasting those shots since MRMs are supposedly not very accurate.
    The LRM + ERPPC kind of bugs me for some reason allthough It's hard to think of a viable alternative since you don't want those sinks to just be dead weight at long range.
    Half the advantage of the ERPPC is that it works at close range as well, but you already have that covered.
    I might swap the LRMs and PPC for an ELRM 15. That helps take advantage of your C3 spotters and lets you soften them up good before you stroll in and bring the hammers down.
    Rename it "Reach". :D

    Depends, when I was making custom weapons I just went +5. Heavy and Light PPCs follow that trend.

    So 20 damage.
  7. Yeah but the clan ERPPC has the damage match the heat, so 23 is about right.
    I hate to beg, but I could use some assistance with SSW customization.
  8. MJ12 Commando Al-Foamy Subversive

    The reason it doesn't have Apollo is because I didn't want to use any experimental tech. The second reason is that Apollo guts its cluster rolls and it has C3, and if you can't get a C3 spotter within 3 hexes of the enemy you probably shouldn't be using MRMs on it.

    And as to the LRM20 + ERPPC, it makes it... usable at long range, although it's just contributing fire to whittle down enemies, but since it's supposed to work in a C3 net, having that option is never a bad thing.
  9. Yeah, I kinda figured you didn't want experimental tech when you used CASE instead of CASE II.
    I don't have much expirience using C3 on my mechs. I've fallen into the common trend of making more "lone wold" type designs.

    Yeah, that's right, it can alpha for 64 points of targeting-computer assisted partikilly doom every three rounds (it's reduced to a mere 48 for two rounds while it bleeds off heat).

    Well then. The stats for the Heavy ERs make sense. Matched heat and damage, long range, broken. Compare it to an AC/20. Said gun, three tons of ammo, and the four DHS to fire it take 21 tons. For that weight, you can have the lovely new PPC at 9 tons, and 12 heat sinks, for 24 points of dissipation. The AC does 20 damage, PPC does 23. Ammo vs. no ammo. It's not even a contest. And as for that other design of yours, I'd be tempted to try that in MM but I doubt it supports custom equipment.

    It's a tradeoff between having a better chance of hitting with a few missiles, or having more damaging hits less often.

    On a completely unrelated note, I've had an idea for a long while of allowing customised tube numbers for missiles. Rather than grouping them arbitrarily. This would go along with making all ammo of a given type usable in all launchers of that type.
  17. Yeah but it's not quite so simple. The MML9Arty gives a slightly more average damage but is notably heavier. Additionally it does more concentrated damage. On the other hand, more smaller launchers means a better chance to get at least one crit.

    Everyone knows about the Binary Laser Cannon and how it, well, kinda sucks. But have you ever considering a Binary Chemical Laser Cannon? The same size, mass, damage and range as the canon Blazer, with half the ammo per ton of the Large Chem Laser (so, 5 shots per ton), and in keeping with the other chemical lasers, generating 12 heat per shot on heat-tracking units like 'Mechs.

    (Take a guess what this tank is a copy of, if the name isn't a big enough clue).

  24. Quick question. I'm playing around with a 5-8-8 medium mech and I'm trying to pick between MPLs, MXPs, and MVSPLs, and/or with a TC. This thing is gonna be jumping every turn so targeting is sort of an issue. what will let me do the greatest overall damage when factoring in chaces to hit, range, etc?
    I'm using endo and DHS of course.
