Victor's words from yesterday ran through Victoria Steiner-Davion's head as she and her new husband Galen Cox prepared to take their first dance together. The music began, and the color drained from Victoria's face. Oh, God, no. He wouldn't.

A quick glance at the table her siblings were sitting at showed Victor cradling his face with his hands, Yvonne was blushing, Arthur was cleaning up the champane he spilled all over himself, and Peter was grinning like a fool.

Her father wasn't even trying to hide his laughter, while her mother just had an embarassed look on her face. Over at another table, Duke Lestrade looked like he was going to have a stroke.

Interesting Terrace, you've butterflied away BOTH Hanse and Melissa's canonical deaths...

It's Non-Canon, but at the same time its so amusing it would be a shame not to include it.

Hanse is a bit iffy (although I do recall seeing speculation that dear Katherine was two for two on the dead parents front) but Melissa would be harder to kill according to the BT canon TL than it is to keep her alive.

It's actually a reasonable, and substantial, timeline change. Hanse and Melissa still being alive in 3055 means no FedCom civil war. Victoria/Katherine's supposed to be less powermad and Victor's supposed to be more competent.

Big question would be when Victor gets married off, will it be to Omi, Isis or possibly Jack Ryan's granddaughter?

Supposed to be to Omi, at last check. Don't remember who posted it, but the wedding was supposed to have Victoria state "I Give you the REST of the Capellan Confederation!" as a humorous joke (Hohiro was groaning from how bad it was), and then there was talk about her creating a Duchy via breaking off the Lyons Thumb & Hohiro/Theodore doing the same for some worlds there, as a neutral 'buffer' state between part of FedCom and the Combine, while both Omi & Victor give up all hereditary rights/priveleges (and their heirs) to the thrones of either FedCom or the Combine. Dunno if anyone was going to continue with it though.

For $%&@ and giggles. Victor doesn't get the chance to decide who he want's. He just wake's up one morning with both of them nake in bed with him. And no memory of what happened the night before.

Omi & Isis I can see. Sally on the other hand? Not likely. Not unless he's inherited his mother's preference for older people as Sally will be about 25 years older then Victor.

Although my money is on that Omi knows exactly what's going on, that is really isn't what it looks like, only that Victor 'annoyed' her slightly the night before, and had Isis' help in pranking him. Only Isis got a little too tipsy and didn't take small sips like she was supposed to.

BTW, for a completely non-combat related fun-toy, imagine using the power-packs from a laser rifle (made into a civilian BULKY-AS-HELL version), and combine it with this:

laser power packs don't need to be very powerful. If the laser is focused down to 1mm, a 1000 joule non-pulsed laser is enough to pierce through any armor an infantryman could bare without an exoskeleton and kill him him by cutting him completely though and having the cut channel explode from the expanding steam.

a 500g lithium ion battery pack could supply 225 1,000 joule shots if the laser was 50% efficient (creating an additional 1,000 joules of waste heat).

upping that to 2,250 joules per shot (about half a gram of tnt explosive force focused down to a mm wide dot) would only decrease our 50% efficient laser to 100 shots per 500g lithium-ion battery pack.

The battery pack would of course be feeding a super-capacitor that actually supplies the high power-flow to the laser.

The limitation on infantry laser weapons isn't todays energy storage systems, it's the compact, high energy lasers themselves.





If we used the near fossil fuel density powerpacks battletech supposedly gives Clancyverse, said laser would probably have Mass Effect levels of ammunition from a single 1.1 pound battery... I'm talking about thousands of 'rounds' per battery.

Tibbs....PA(L)s & BAs in general, in canon, use modified laser/manpack PPC power-packs to run off of. Its not so much the instant peak power available, as the LENGTH OF TIME you can use a single power pack before it runs dry. A laser rifle might only get 10-30 shots out of it before needing to get swapped. A PA(L) might get 2 hours of powered assist off a single power-pack (IIRC they can run for up to 12hr straight in in the Classic Elemental, so 6-7 powerpacks, prior to what's needed for the small laser). How much 'fun time' do you think you could get, using that waterjet-pack, off a single power-pack?

I'm sure the near fossil fuel energy density powerpacks would be pretty damned awesome in personal pleasure vehicles like this water-jet powered dolphin thing, but 10-30 shots for a laser rifle? seriously? thats kinda retarded in a 'BT writers suck at math/common sense/basic knowledge of lasers' way. If it really got so little ammo from a single pack, it must be shooting off beams powerful enough to slide right though an Abrams tank, and the 5 tanks lined up behind it. And the hill behind those...

If we assume those energy packs have 50 times the energy of a lithium ion battery, and 10 shots per 500g battery then that's a damned powerful laser shot. equivalent in energy to almost an ounce of tnt.

Well... if they didn't make it into a pulse laser it would effectively just be an energy grenade launcher. Too much energy in too little time means it just dumps all the energy into the same material, creating an explosion but no penetration. If it was a properly designed pulse laser with a 1mm wide spot, then it would be cutting though hundreds of meters of steel at the very least...

This is nothing more then a way to take up time and as far as I know, won't affect either the game nor the storyline.

Was hunting through Wikipedia after noting that sarna's article for fusion reactors mentions how 2/3 of the weight is a tungsten carbide shell, and that the lighter reactors use a crystalline polymer to offset the weight, which is much the same stuff used in heat sinks, if at a massive increase in bulk.

Well, I think I figured out how Clan reactors get their lighter weight without being so quite bulky. They use boron nitride (cBN) AND a lesser amount of the polymer. And even then the polymer is only likely there to act as shielding against incoming DEW/high-thermal weapons fire, as cBN sublimes instantly to gas upon reaching it's melting point (which btw is over 100C higher then Tungsten Carbide, although carbide doesn't sublime). The main difference here is that cBN is only about 1/5 the mass of carbide, while being 1/5th as dense (if using the cBN variety), while being actually just a tad harder (carbide is around 8.9~9.0 on Mohs, while cBN is ~10).

Thoughts?

I was also looking at silicon carbide which is also in the same area of mass/density/hardness, but I figured that might not work considering it's other properties. Like say, the entire reactor would light up like the world's largest christmas tree ornament due to it effectively being one giant LED. Wouldn't exactly help during night fighting....
