    An Evil Overlord Is You!

OK, this is a Quest thread, and one that is fairly strait forward.

You are an ‘Evil’ Overlord, reigning god/king of a small impoverished nation standing lone against the ‘alliance of light’. Though this is a single character thread, it contains considerable elements of most strategic RP’s given well… you’re the Evil Overlord, minions, super weapons, territory, politics, and all that comes with it. Ignoring these aspects is a quick way to loose your country, and see all who live in it, dominated, or butchered by others, including you (obviously).

At the same time focusing purely on logistics and strategy is a very good way to get assassinated or worse, and the social and behavioral methodology of certain beings makes it very important that you keep yourself one of, if not the, most powerful/dangerous beings in your realm at any given time (Examples being certain potential allies only following ‘strong’ leaders, being able to fight off adventuring parties that macguffen there ways strait into the heart of your doom fortress, and or resisting the occasional mental/spiritual/mystical attempt to control/overwrite/banish you by remote).

The setting is original, and in spite of the clearly defined sides of ‘dark’ and ‘light’, it’s going to be a very gray and gray morality in general to the setting, and likely to include mature themes, though nothing graphic enough to offend the Mods. Likewise, this is going to be a fairly blended mix of humor and seriously dark crap, so, you have been warned on that.

All that said, I’m going to do my best to make this fun!

    On to character creation!

    You ascended to power by…

    [ ] Conquest
Description: An amoral, yet competent leader can be worth following, as can an incompetent but kind king. Your predecessor was nether, and after suffering loss after loss, you eventually decided the only way to save your nation, was to take command of it for yourself.
Pros: Considered a Hero to the people, upped PR relations outside of your own nation, and considerable personal power.
Cons: Loyalists and dissidents making trouble for you, you need to rebuild the entire command structure, and your army, is of course, in tatters.
Notes: This is as close to building a nation from scratch as you’re going to get in this RP. It puts you at extreme pressure as a leader, and you must note, that despite your good PR, your actual position as a leader is compromised, meaning your at high risk of invasion in the early game.

    [ ] Inheritance.
Description: ‘Hero’ is the title given to one who slays monsters, and saves lives. The ones who killed your leader are known as heroes in many lands. Yet you call them what they truly were: Assassins. Your kingdom is not perfect, but the people inside it are yours, and though you are not ready, you will do your level best to live up, if not surpass your predecessor.
Pros: Clear command chain, strong logistical state, and an invigorated, and refocused people.
Cons: Low personal ability, you have yet to earn the trust of your people, and are assumed ‘weak’ by both external and internal parties.

    [ ] Deception
Description: The Overlord lies dead at your hand, assassinated. Yet his loyal lieutenants, advisers, and people would strike you down still for their destruction… if not for the fact you were his face.
Pros: Personally powerful, you retain the intact and effective forces of the nation, and hold contacts outside of your kingdom.
Cons: If you’re discovered your dead, it is impossible for you to know every detail of the previous overlord’s actions, history, or behavior.

If anyone’s got any other starting ideas, hit me with them and I’ll throw together a list of pro’s and cons.
    Lilithium and Gul_Reah like this.

  4. SirLagginton Imperator Kitteh

    [ ] Conquest
  5. [X] Conquest
  6. Hmm this look interesting.

I think I'll vote for Inheritance.
  7. Qazplm Lurker

    [X] Conquest
  8. Cloak&Dagger CRY SOME MORE

    [x] Conquest
  9. Wander Not all those who Wander are lost.

    [x] Conquest

I'll support this. I very much like the idea of having both high personal power and being able to build our nation the way we want to.

I will BTW answer questions for fine details.
  11. Ok then.

Is this a fantasy setting or just in medieval time, or is it placed in another time period?

Basically I'd like to know how much magic/technology factors into this. After all regular swords and shields tends to differ a bit from certain magical settings. That's without getting into magi-tech. After all if its possible to have a run in something like a Land Leviathan from Rise of Legends I'd think that would be important to know.
  12. Mizuki_Stone Gnd. Admiral

Fantasy setting, and magitech is actually one of the paths you can take.

Well, not all the development paths take anyway. Certain backgrounds open up and lock off certain options.
  13. SirLagginton Imperator Kitteh

What are the pros and cons of SCIENCE!, magic and magitech?
  14. Mizuki_Stone Gnd. Admiral

Eh... to be honest I don't want to invest a lot of effort in this while your capacity for SCIENCE! might still be locked off (well until you acquire an ally who can use SCIENCE!)

Pros are relatively consistent results, and logistics. If you make one magitech doombot, you can make fifty.

Cons is that it's resource intensive as hell. It scales up beautifully, but takes a good while to build up momentum to that level.

As for Science vrs magic… no such thing. Magic is science, just a select and highly applicable part of it. Like physics. Only in this case 1+1=Fish is a potentially correct answer. Maddness is a side effect of mystical understanding.
  15. serapheus Contract~?

    [X] Inheritance.
  16. ReinZero Facepalming so hard at SB's hypocrisy.

    [x] Conquest

    This is SB after all.
  17. [X] Inheritance.
  18. SneakyWalrus Is the Water Free?

    Hmmmm
Are we going to end up like this guy?
Because if so we are going to need a few more bits to make it happen like Magic, insanely loyal minions and the ability to kill gods
If so I say [X] Conquest
    EVIL ALWAYS FINDS A WAY
  19. SirLagginton Imperator Kitteh

    You and your magic, bah.

Magitech is clearly the way to go.
  20. Magitech! Magitech!
  21. TheTruth SCIENCE!!!

Are you going to drop this one too? Cause you tend to abandon quests within 10 updates or so if you work on more than 1 at a time.
  22. SneakyWalrus Is the Water Free?

BAH, Pure Magic is for Elves and Wizards who don't know any better
As an Overlord, we make use of both Magic and Technology. I mean, if this is a traditional fantasy setting, then the Elves are only going to use Magic, thus being weak against advanced technology while the Dwarves will only use Technology, thus being weak against advanced magic.
Evil is not picky about how it wins, only that it does.

Anyway, you know you want an army of slavishly loyal (to-the-point-of-death-and-beyond), incredibly tough, diverse Minions that would wait on your every whim.
Shame their not that bright however.
  23. SirLagginton Imperator Kitteh

While I'm not really in the habit of badgering authors to update, I will state that I will be very disappointed if Dragon in the Eastern Wonderland and ShotaQuest is dropped.
  24. TheTruth SCIENCE!!!

ShotaQuest is the one he has never dropped. And Eastern Wonderland...I forgot about that one, but still, like 10 quests have just...ended because he tries to do too much and overwhelms himself.
  25. Mizuki_Stone Gnd. Admiral

Eh... I guess I should state this outright given I might apparently get lynched if I don't.

Spoiler: Conquest locks out the Magitech development path.

I mean honestly. I just outright told you guys that magitech is the most resource intensive, and Conquest rips your logistics ability a new one. You just do not have the infrastructure to utilize it in any meaningful way, and picking it is pretty much an automatic game over, and as such locked out.

Note, you CAN pick Conquest, and pick up magitech later, just not for your starting forces.
