  1. FaceMeltor CARRY HARDER

You all know that this is going to be the outcome right?

Louise: "Yes. this is the new me. I am not Louise de Vaillere anymore but The Lady of Zero Faith and Hollow Heart. Mark my words, for it is this day that a new star has risen on the Halkeginean horizon!" Followed by thunder and lightning.

    And an awkward silence.

A completely random, faceless, unimportant side character then steps forward, leans towards her and speaks into the lull:

"But you do know that everyone will still call you Louise anyway, right?"

She then sighs and hangs her head. "...yes I do."

Isn't that bad thing when it comes to Abyssals, though?

/vaguely recalls reading that on the wiki

Don't worry about it, IMO. I've yet to see runes mentioned in terms of magic anywhere outside of my musings on translating the runes into a sort of epic level GURPS equivalent.

Even then, bending canon to fit the story is important. In my case, the familiars are getting a general change/upgrade to make them all equally useful.

Lifdrasil isn't just a reservoir, it's a bloody reactor. The Heart draws in power from 'elsewhere', like normal mages do with their willpower, but much, much faster. (It also counts as 'void chosen' for the purposes of being able to enhance spells, but not for casting void spells.)

Windalfr, besides controlling animals, enhances empathy and communications skills. The Windalfr is an excellent inspirer of men, and quite capable at negotiation of all kinds. (And Julio himself is getting an upgrade.)

Gandalfr is actually the peerless shield made out to be (and biggest change). Faster, Stronger, More Perceptive. The skill granted isn't just enough to use something, it's enough to make someone capable at it. It's a novice degree of skill, but far better than the untrained flailing of canon. As for the enhancements: low level all the time, actually, focused on perception enhancing, and activate a bit more freely based on how suitable something is as a weapon. A kitchen knife activates more so than a chair. (Oh, and Saito isn't stupid, even if he's pervy.)

Myoznitnirn is closest to canon. Understand and use any magical artifact. Enhanced understanding of spellcraft, especially related to identifying magic or enchanting. Able to manipulate magic and enchant, even if not normally so. (Mechanically, the later two are enhancements to Thaumaturgy, or magical book learning, and spell skill, plus access to enchanting without needing to know the spells.)

Windalfr, the trusted right hand, gets things done. Gandalfr, the terrible left, ruins his enemies and protects him. Lifdrasil, the heart, is his companion and anchor. Myoznitnirn, the mind, is the mental and magical counterpart to the Windalfr's social; the 'Smart Guy'.

Hehe, nice. Though Cho-tan would be freakier if she wasn't eldritch evil, just amoral/sociopathic child. More of "Up you go!" than 'Fate worse than death'.

(In other words, Annie!Cho-tan, I suppose)

"Oh oh oh, I can nom wardes? CAN I CAN I CAN I? Yaaay!"
"Ooooh that blood spatter looks like a flower! Lets try throwing a few more of your friends, and see what they look like!"
"It's okay, he's a mage, he can fly!"
"They have water magic for that, stop crying."
*Wearing Warde's face* "Look, I'm a lightning clone too!"
  4. linkhyrule5 Hero of Time

Yeah, it makes them gain Resonance.
  5. Darth Artemis Hero Prinny

Okay, getting kind of psyched about the Strike Witches crossover idea now. Picture what the inevitable Mio VS Wardes dogfight would look like with this playing in the background:

    [yt]DBlGyUctjkc[/yt]
  6. EarthScorpion A Healing-Type Shadow Cabalite

Yep. One point of Resonance per time they acknowledge being called by their old name. Resonance is... bad. Very bad. She can try bleeding it off, in smaller, world-poisoning bursts, but the first few times, before she learns how to do that, if she hits 10 points of Resonance... ouch. 10 points... well, let's think, that's enough for her to be possessed by the Neverborn for a short while (the dead screaming eternally suffering creators of the world, who were never meant to be able to die. And then the Exalted killed them), and also blight the world around her, killing a mortal she feels positively about, and opening a seeping hole to the Underworld (5 points on Conduit, 5 points on Blight, which, yes, is admittedly the worst option for everyone else).

The fact that the children call Louise "Zero" is actually a defence against that, a good thing, believe it or not.

If she manages to keep it down, by keeping away from people, she can probably cope, but one way or another, by some point in the story it'd probably be non-viable for her to stay at the Academy. Hopefully because, you know, she "merely" poisoned the world around her, rather than killing people in a Neverborn-possessed madness.
  7. soulful100 Breaking Dimensions

When I listen to that I think of Nanoha arriving at Saxe-Gotha to absolutely decimate anyone in the sky for some reason....
  8. Darth Artemis Hero Prinny

Considering that there were no airborne troops at Saxe-Gotha, that image leaves something to be desired. :p

But yeah, now I have a sudden mental image of Louise's combat skills getting her and Mio spots in Tristain's griffon knights and suddenly the story goes Ace Combat on everyone's backsides.

Still watching the first season and need to start the second, but at this point I'm pretty sure that Empty Skies will be getting its own thread sometime in the near-to-distant future.
  9. soulful100 Breaking Dimensions

Oh then will Louise's Explosion replace the infamous missile spam? It certainly certainly has a large enough AoE and damage potential

P.S I can't wait for the latest game to come out
  10. Darth Artemis Hero Prinny

Maybe her basic one, but the proper Explosion spell makes me think of those overblown superweapons like Chandelier more than any missile. I've only ever played AC6 though, so if there's something like an FAE in the other games then I could see that working too.

  11. Robo Jesus Your Mechanical Messiah

Phal, I'm enjoying what you have so far. The Osmond bit seemed a bit odd, but my advice is to run with it as part of the plot. Either with him testing the waters with his words and trying to get a feel for what's really going on ("If the Valliere's are plotting something, is this child part of it, and does it have anything to do with the crown?" plus "I wonder how easily I can tweak her nose here?"), or with him annoyed as fuck with the Valliere family and being as difficult as he can be towards them, such as making a certain unnamed students life there... difficult.

  13. Flere821 ZnT LN Expert

Very nice. Would this be getting a thread anytime soon?
I've posted this in another thread earlier; I'll just repost it here:

    Earth tech:
    1) 'Staff of Destruction', ie a M72 rocket launcher. (Vol1)

    2) 'Dragon's Raiment', ie the Zero Fighter. (Vol3)
Location: a Japanese temple at Tarbes.

    3) A German 'Tiger Tank' (Vol14)
Location: Basement of the Cathedral/Palace Vittorio lives in, along with the rest of Romalia's stash of Earth weaponry. Romalia's stash was taken from scavenging trips into the Sahara for the past few hundred years, which the elves notice from time to time as the weapons are lying close to the 'Holy Land'.

3a) Vol14 Ch6: Romalia's stash of Earth weapons also include: England-made rifles, Russian AK-47s (and other AK series or something like that; I don't know much about guns), swords and spears of varying eras, shurikens, katanas, a cannon, half a fighter plane, missile launchers, and finally the aforementioned Tiger Tank.
The guns was enchanted so they won't fall apart if left alone for a long period of time, but they're not in a good condition to begin with.
Romalia have been gathering weapons for the day a Gandalfr rises again; not enough for "a whole army", just the Gandalfr.
The Left hand of a Gandalfr wields a Sword that protects his/her master, while the Right hand of a Gandalfr weilds the Spear. A 'Spear' was the strongest weapon 6,000 years ago, and is also a synonym for a mundane, non-magical weapon that can attack targets further that what a sword can reach. Spears eventually evolved into muskets and cannons as time passed, and this point comes up again in Vol20.

    4) Location: Submerged under Dragon's Nest, a archipelago where a ancient Rhyme Dragon lives (she also gathers up the various weapons and place it in a cave nearby, thinking the elves have been throwing things into the ocean and is trying to clean the area up herself). This rhyme dragon's grandmother was alive back in Brimir's time.
A Russian nuclear submarine, 120m long. the submarine itself has rusted away and is unusable, the nuclear reactor is also gone (or just didn't get transported into Helkeginia).
The IMPORTANT thing however is the cargo; nuclear ICBMs, with the launching mechanisms apparently intact. The chapter (Vol20 Ch3) is aptly named 'The Final Spear'.

4a) Vol20 Ch5: The 'Holy Land', which after 6,000 years have turned into a archipelago out at sea, is also filled with Earth weaponry. However due to being at sea most of them get rusted quickly. Tanks, fighter jets, rifles, cannons... many more times than what Romalia have.
There's a few that have been waterproofed or stored in waterproof bags. Mostly ammunition, grenades and rocket launchers.
There's also a recent addition: a version of a US Navy scout ship that came out within the last few years, 10m long, a gun at the front end, and with a full gauge of fuel.
  14. Sliverlord Just waiting for you to walk by.

Well this makes it easier for me to plan some stuff, knowing what the "special weapons" are. Heh, some entertaining ideas are coming to me.

  16. soulful100 Breaking Dimensions

*returns brofist* Same man. I only own Ace Combat 6 too, great game. Hmm would Dispel be classified as an EmP bomb?
  17. linkhyrule5 Hero of Time

So, I had an insane and hilarious idea.

    Louise summons Quantum Cop.

Casey and Andy follow in a Trans-Dimensional-Track-O-Mat.

The real fun begins when the whole "unexplained resurrections" thing kicks in...

Oh, and I look forward to the ultimate in immoveable object versus unstoppable force: Jormungand versus... THE PLANET DESTROYER!

    :p

    (Bob was there, too.)
  18. Nico Hana Frazzled Archivist

So I see. Ouch indeed, poor Louise.
  19. AzureGrimoire Could it possibly be rewritten, that fate of hers?

    Oh wow...
If the A-Team was summoned, and they get those, Halkeginia will be surely broken...
Or they'll leave the Nukes alone... since Nukes + Low Tech world = BAD CONSEQUENCES...
  20. soulful100 Breaking Dimensions

Talking about bad consequences... What would happen if Louise summoned Saito... A Saito who originates from the reality of Battle Fantasia...
  21. As I said things escalated to something more than I wanted. Initially I only wanted him a little pissed about the Valliere's interference, but then writing the scene this progressed further than that.

I'm will probably use both things, Osmond is loyal and distrusts the Vallieres and he didn't really like to be forced to take their younger daughter into his school.

As soon as I write a few snippets more and find a name for the story.

I also wanted to have the Valliere family using some of Louise's familiar knowledge of the future to expands their power, get richer etc. I still haven't settled in which profession I want him to have before he was summoned, although I was inclined to make him an History university teacher. Any ideas on this front anyone?
  22. Sorry for the double post guys, but here's the next snippet.

It's only a small one, just one of the reactions to Louise's entrance to the Academy.

Also anyone had any suggestion for a title to the story?

  23. HIMP_Dahak This post approved by Desus.

Remember a few things, assuming he's educated.

Even a basic understanding of just about anything is enough to start advancing. For example, just knowing about rifling, cased ammunition, breech loading, etc is enough for someone to work it out pretty quickly, which would be a severe shock to the rest of the world.

It's entirely possible that they would become closer to Henrietta and the Pope - Henrietta because of him coming from a post-feudal society, and knowing she's right, and the Pope because he's someone who has at least basic understanding of 'wondrous' elven technology.

Tons of basic theory that could enhance the already not-to-shabby knowledge of the time, like Germ theory. Then there's stuff they don't appear to use, like water power. And then there's stuff they don't use at all, but is fairly easy to make, like Electricity...

Think about what type of historian he is, if you do so. More importantly, how does the family and the crown use his knowledge? With even very basic understanding of modern weaponry, one could significantly amplify Tristain's air power. With an actual military historian, one could make them near unstoppable.
  24. .... you used this same introduction in your Disgaea story, no?
will it be a running joke in your stories?
  25. Darth Artemis Hero Prinny

If it's a funny running joke, then sure. But in this case it was just me being lazy since I knew I'd already written a paragraph describing Louise waking up under unusual circumstances before and I didn't feel like writing it again for such a short snippet.
