  1. I suspect that those who do move Noble Six will still be in for a big surprise when they realise just how heavy his human-scale armour is in spite of his great display of agility.

Also as SGTschlock said, the runes would not give him more armour abilities. Of course, that does not rule out swapping out his armour ability if another somehow finds its way to Halkeginia.
  2. SGTschlock Hunger: Sated

Indeed. Though I suppose when they (Colbert really) notices Six doesn't quite move as fast without his suit, he'll probably conclude it powered somehow (even in the absence of magic). That might be another reason they'd want to get him out of it. They don't know whether he might try to get up while still wounded/disoriented and walk through a wall.

Indeed. That would pretty much be the only source of such things. With the staff of destruction being 30 years old, the Marine who brought it would have been pre-Covenant war and as far as I know that was the latest example of a non summoning cross over.

    edit: A thought.

Six, being more adapted to a style of fighting (fire and manuever) that in a Medieval context would simply be skirmishing, decides to adapt to the lack of guns and bullets. With that in mind, he goes about inquiring around the academy as to what it would take to manufacture a long bow with a draw weight of 1120 pounds-force.
  3. duckman MAN & DUCK

With a draw that high he would be over-penetrating his targets quite a lot, and with his combat style he should be asking for something like a repeating crossbow with a quarter of that draw.
  4. 13g0guy1)u1)3 Your Spiritual Leige

    Hee-hee.
Anyway, why not just summon the MC? He's given a cliffhanger ending of falling towards a planet, why not make that planet Halkinwhatever? It's not like any of the Spartans have anything else left to do now that the war is over. Can you imagine them as civilians? I can't.
  5. duckman MAN & DUCK

    MC:May I take your order?

Customer:Master Chief?! what are you doing here?!

    MC:...
  6. isn't Cortana reaching the end of her life by the end of H3? Or that got retconed too?
  7. SGTschlock Hunger: Sated

Over penetration is an advantage. That's entirely the idea. Penetrating through a target completely does more damage than pin cushioning them. And that becomes rather important at several points.

    1. Picking off guys in plate mail at 300 yards (through his shield)
    2. Killing large elephant sized fantasy creatures
    3. Possibly being able to pierce through a wind mages protective screen at close range with a weighted arrow

Six would probably prefer a supped up bow comparable in effectiveness to a rifle to a supped up medieval crossbow trying to be a machine gun.
  8. I am not really familiar with the novels, but wasn't there also a "Grey Team" that is still officially an active Spartan group even after the war but had lost contact with the UNSC since before the Battle of Reach. Absent from that battle, they did not upgrade from Mark IV to Mark V armour and presumably do not have armour abilities, making them a bit less instawin. Of course the more powerful armour and abilities could make the fic more interesting, so it really depends how well the author is able to place them into the ZnT-verse.

It has been hypothesised in-universe that rampancy can end in a theoretical stage of "metastability". This could be used to explain her survival if the fic requires it. Of course, to reach metastability the AI apparently has to go through the first three stages of rampancy, which could help drive the plot.

That also makes me think; when the UNSC finally picks up Cortana's space beacon, I would not be very surprised if they devote a huge amount of resources to retrieve Master Chief.
  9. duckman MAN & DUCK

True. Until he can get such a weapon though, he may as well just rip a ballista off it's mount.
  10. Zelinko Indexing The Index

We never see her again. She's already showing signs of damage. If anything by the time they find the rear end of the Dawn there may just be some file left behind left as a legacy and epitaph.

She probably could program something to wake the ship again if someone comes close but she knows she'll probably be 'dead' long before 117 is found again. Her final duty is to keep Him alive.
  11. Doomsought Sliver Overlord

No, she passed it a while ago.
It was hinted that she had already gone completely rampant and passed out the other side.
  12. firefossil I have charts. Lots of charts.

Hmm, Zero Interface, a Ranma/ZnT crossover updated to chapter 7 (http://www.fanfiction.net/s/6677172/7/Zero_Interface). Its beginning to get interesting, and also rather unusual in that it touches upon the mental link aspect of familiars.

YES. Mask-Siesta vs. Mott would be priceless to watch. I'd imagine that Siesta would end up the most common user of the Mask.
  13. SGTschlock Hunger: Sated

A ballista would be awkward to use even with super human strength.
Plus it's questionable if he'd find one lying around to be looted.

Arguably, being Spartan II's with significantly more experiance than Noble six would make them more Insta win.
  14. Battlefields are a good place to look.
  15. duckman MAN & DUCK

Well they do come in various sizes. But yeah he's not likely to find one anywhere near the academy.
  16. SGTschlock Hunger: Sated

If it remotely qualifies as a Ballista, it's simply not going to be shaped for personal use. A ballista is bassically a giant crossbow with a crank on the end. There's no way for you to crank it anyway other than in a set up position.

This is another advantage of a longbow. With Six's greater overall dexterity/strength/agility he'd be able to fire and notch another arrow on the move. Reloading a crossbow/mini ballista is a rather awkward motion.

    edit:Another thing to consider.

More likely than not, conversation regarding the planet that Siesta and her Cousins grand father hailed from are bound to be quite awkward for Six. Assuming we still go with the meme of Siesta's grand father coming from the same place as the Familiar, then they'll start enthusiastically questioning Six about what his home world was like, not knowing that it had been glassed by the Covenant.
  17. it would be interesting to see everybody else trying to wrap their minds around the concept of glassing
  18. Barricade Nyan! I mean, Myon!

    "Glassing? What's that?"

"You know what Kirche can do to a room if a boy turns down her invitation hard, in public? Something like that but across an entire planet."

    "Ohhhh ouch."
  19. Here's an interesting one: Louise summons Maka Albarn carrying Soul Eater in his scythe form. Not only would it be funny for the student's reaction to Soul turning his head in scythe form and goggling at the binding kiss (to say nothing of actually assuming his human form), but Maka is similar to Louise in enough ways that they would develop a solid friendship once the noble/familiar issue was addressed. Soul would be pained by having someone like Louise treating him like dirt, but he would definitely appreciate the "cool" magic, as well as the eye candy in the other girls like Kirche. Monster hunts abound, their adventuring trips a mix of trying to get back to Shibusen and complete Soul's evolution to a Death Scythe, depending on when you pull them to Halkeginia.

Alternatively, Louise could just summon Soul pre-series, and have them bond in a similar manner to Soul and Maka (the familiar bond helping with this). Have the Gandalfr runes help Soul's use of his blades when he manifests them, and Soul Resonance could transfer the Gandalfr's benefits to Louise when in weapon form. And besides, who would dare say Louise can't do magic after learning how to use a void-aligned variant of Witch-Hunter (after many guesses and explosions)?
  20. Tabi AsukaQuest Has Infected Me With Cat Ears

I doubt they'd be able to wrap their minds around the idea of a planet, they are literally still in the middle of the eighteenth century. :p
  21. Phantrosity Motormouth Engineer

Yes, since it was only known that the earth was round for a few millennia at that point.
  22. Ardion Prosili One who Governs Power

You, sir, have my interest! And the funding. All of it. :D

But hey....would the familiar connection be enough to have a slight trickle of the black blood to Louise?
  23. Have him add a disclaimer at the end of the discussion saying that glassing plasma is WAY hotter than any conventional fire and watch them either go into denial or shock.

Of course, to average people in a society with their level of scientific development, their planet would be everything they know, all of significant living existence. They might view the destruction of their one planet as we would view the destruction of the entire universe.

On that note, would the Spartan have crossed into a totally new universe? Alternatively, could the world Halkeginia resides in be an unknown "Shield World"? They are apparently only accessible when the Halo array is activated, somewhat around the time of the games (though admittedly after Reach, so it may not be a viable explanation for Noble Six).
  24. SGTschlock Hunger: Sated

OTOH, it might be relevant to consider that Six might not feel all that enthusiastic about elaborating on how the Covenant murdered his familiy. Much less to a bunch of dubious civilians wanting a technical dissertations on the mechanics of it.

A very good question. Was it ever elaborated upon in the Zero no Tsukaima novels?
  25. not that I know of, but then again, there are still 2 more novels before the end.

In other news, it seems there's an Elf version of Louise in the latest novel. I swear I thought it was Louise when I first saw her, but the ears, and the fact she was ordering 2 other elves, showed me wrong.

Also, it seems Elves use guns...
