BROB offers to send you back in time... (IC/RP Thread)

  1. It is the eve of your twelfth birthday. You’ve had a long day preparing for your party tomorrow, but that’s not what makes you anxious. You’ve had nine long years since the… thing… appeared before you and transported you back in time and into a new three year old girl monster body. It was disorienting to say the least, but you’ve gotten used to it and your new powers. But that weird creature said it would see you again in nine years, and tonight you’re turning twelve. You sigh. There’s really nothing you can do about it, that... creature will either appear or it won’t. You turn over and go to sleep…

    ---------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------

You open your eyes to find yourself in a crowd of hundreds of monstrous girls. Some appear near human with only slight oddities like small horns or green hair, while others appear stranger with tails, different colored skin, and other mutations. Some appear utterly inhuman, giant bugs, living shadows, hissing creatures of black chitin. And interspersed in the crowd are rotting corpses that everyone backs away from. You look around to see that you’re all in a mostly featureless white room that appears to be endlessly large. One end seems to be dominated by a raised platform of an unidentifiable black material that seems to reflect light in an oily sheen. Several try to approach it, but are repulsed by a strange force, even those that can fly. After several moments of nervous chatting with those around you, the rising noise is shattered by a thunderous roar that seems to reverberate strangely. A strange purple portal of swirling energy appears over the black platform and the figure of swirling light and shadow from nine years ago steps out of it. The portal disappears. The figure appears slightly more distinct than before. You can make out the beginnings of a face on its head. The only part you can see clearly is the mouth, which is filled with incredibly sharp teeth. It appears to be wearing a cloak that shifts colors as it moves in a non-existent wind. Looking over the crowd, it seems to notice the rotting corpses and grins.

“Ah, it seems several of my clients have had an accident. Oh well, waste not, want not,” the figure says, making a quick gesture. The corpses lift into the air and begin to float towards the black platform, the crowd parting before them. The black material seems to flow around the bodies as they are slowly absorbed. After a moment, several small glowing red gemstones sprout out of the top of the platform. The figure walks over and picks one up. “Excellent,” it proclaims after examining the gem for a moment. The being of swirling darkness and light begins to address the increasingly nervous crowd. “Congratulations on surviving these last nine Earth years. Unfortunately, you now all have a slight problem. The method used to transport you all into the past and transform your bodies has a small flaw. It only lasts for nine years and a week. After that, well, you really don’t want to know what will happen.”

Questions, murmurs, and shouts begin to fill the air once more. The figure raises the hand containing the glowing crimson gem and suddenly all sound stops. The only thing you can hear is the voice of the figure as it begins to speak once more. “But don’t worry, you have a chance. See this gem?” the creature asks, indicating the red stone it holds aloft. “By consuming stones like these, you can stay as you are.” The various girls in the crowd begin to look at each other warily, sizing each other up. “Oh, there’s no need for that… yet.” The figure states with a nasty smirk on its face. “Starting tomorrow, monsters and beasts from various ‘fictional’,” You hear a certain accent upon the word fictional, as if sharing a private joke, “universes shall start appearing in your plane of reality. Kill one, and the body shall transform into a gem similar to these. All you need to do is consume it, and you stay… for another week. After that, you need another. Oh, and just to make things easier…” You feel a burning sensation around one of your fingers or claws. A ring of gold seems to be forming, with a small, softly glowing ruby set in the center. After a moment, the pain goes away. “The gem set into your ring will glow more brightly the closer you are to a monster.”

The figure lowers the hand containing the shining crimson gem and sound begins to fill the room once more. Several questions and screams, such as, “Why are you doing this?” “What are you getting out of this?” “Can I have another form?! I’m not strong enough!”, fill the room. At this, the being smiles impossibly wide and says, “All in good time.” Another portal appears with that otherworldly reverberating roar and the figure steps into it. Everything fades away…

    ---------------------------------------------------------------------------------------

You awaken in your bed and look at your hand. The ring from your “dream” is on your finger/claw, the gem shining brightly…

    ---------------------------------------------------------------------------------------

OK, here we go. This is the RP topic. Feel free to interact, hunt down your monsters, progress the plot, discover the horrors, etc. I will determine such things as what monsters you encounter, how well you do in combat at times, help progress the plot at times, etc. For reference, OOC/Sign-up thread is here, though we are full for now.

    Enjoy!

'aww hell, no, not.' I think to myself as I look down at the ring and I almost yell out in terror, but I manage to regain a little contor.
With difficultly, I get up and out of bed, and yell out. "Mom, dad, I had a bad dream."

I almost start to cry as I walk out of my room.

I awoke, feeling the same fear that I had all those years ago.

My room had changed little in my time in the past. Various assignments, books and computer components filled my room; the due date for my next assignment merely a distant memory in my head. My bed had expanded to fit my increased body mass and height at 5'10. Although I was relatively lithe for my statue I could never be accused of having a Hollywood figure.

I gently peeled off the sheets that covered me, long since learning enough control to not rip asunder anything I was clothed in. Before I knew it I was on my feet and moving towards the computer.

A humble machine, an old CRT monitor, keyboard and mouse. At first I thought that changing the keyboard size to fit mine would help but I knew that it was only a crutch. Laying on top of the keyboard was a pair of three-fingered gloves. As I pulled them on I took the time to admire the small blunt metal tips that covered the ends. These where my typing gloves; giving me just enough surface area to use the keyboard without also punching in the surrounding keys.

Within a few minutes, the computer was active.

My own BBS, 'the Secret Garden'. A sanctuary for those who needed it. With the help of my teachers up at MIT I was able to get it up and running relatively quickly. I was able to spread it via word of mouth to a few others, permitting friends and family while also keeping out non-desireables.

I didn't have to look long before I saw the board lit up with confused and frightened threads. Responses ranged from bare-face bravado to absolute terror. I paused for a moment before creating my own thread.

I wake up, and stretch my back, groaning. "Could be worse." I say to myself, getting up

I looked into the Eyes of the Mega Thunderzord i bought with Birthday money years ago, "Don't look at me like that, I'll think of something." I say, before turning it's head to the side. "I gotta."

I get up and walk to the kitchen, where mom has kindly cooked up Orange Danish Roles. I picked out a group, and got a Dr. Pepper out of the fridge, before sitting down in front of the TV in my daily morning ritual. After breakfast, I go back to my room and log onto the computer my dad gave me, being carefull as I logged onto 'the Secret Garden'

I saw a Sticky thread and got into it.

Huh, that was a weird dream... I thought to myself, waking up from the weirdest dream I'd had yet. Mysterious people, lots of other transformed girls, and monsters? I needed to lay off the anime for a while; mom didn't like it anyhow, so maybe it'd help.

    Then I noticed the ring.

    Ah. Nuts.

So. Situation analysis. Monsters. One week of life left unless I defeat monsters, shouldn't be difficult. At least I'm homeschooled...

I could probably do this; I was pretty combat-blasty, after all! But what about the others? Not all of them were going to be DEMONIC HELLFIRE MASTERS! after all.

Throwing off the covers, I jumped up and began rummaging under the bed for my secret stash of stuff. Mostly music that my mother wouldn't approve of, along with emergency money for snacks, a couple of little trinkets that had caught my eye... and the object I was looking for: a collection of notes on various other "monster girls" that I had been collecting, along with contact information.

I didn't even bother to shapeshift into a more human form as I tromped down the stairs(though I did take care not to mark the hardwood floors in the kitchen with my hooves) and picked up the phone.

Time to see if this dream is just me going crazy, or if the girl from Boston had the same thing happen.

    I dialed.

    "Hello, is Rachel there?"
  8. Kate Amberfield: Day One.

I woke up shaking, and wondered for a moment when my life had turned into Baldur’s Gate. Disturbing dreams were nothing new; I’d had them even before my little side-step through time, but I had a feeling this one was a little more, given that I’d woken up clutching the ring from it. There was a reason why I’d made sure the X-Men animated series was the first thing I’d learned for piano, and why I kept a tape player with it loaded in my backpack. I’d seen the same reports as the rest of the world, of the “mutant” births. My own mutation, at least the visible part, was easy to cover by wearing my hair up, or pretending they were a headband. Well, easy might not have been the right way to put it, but, still.

I hoped that the hunt for monsters wouldn’t be too involved. At 12 I wasn’t exactly going to be going out and hunting things down on my own. On the other hand, I did have a babysitter slash chauffeur, so I could do some hunting. And I was combat capable, at least mildly.

My vectors weren’t where I wanted them to be, but they were more than enough for mooks. I hadn’t expected something like this to start yet, so I hadn’t gone much beyond theory in complex vector attacks, but combat experience would change that. I’d have to get my hands on something for protection too. I’d managed to deflect a bullet once, but it wasn’t something I wanted to try again, and with only four vectors having one tied up on pure defense would be crippling.

The biggest problem was… it was 1997. Any contacts I’d have that could help me were non-existent, and way too young to be what I needed even if I had known them. And with google not opening its doors for another year, finding them wouldn’t be any easier.

I let myself fall back onto the pillow behind me. Yeah. This was not of the good.
  9. One thing you all might have missed something at the end of the OP:

    Anyways...

Your hear the voice of your mother calling out to you, "Honey, what's wro-" before a huge crash echoes through the house. You run to the kitchen to see a squat goblin like creature hefting a large hammer standing over your mother's body. There is a large hole in the wall where the goblin obviously smashed its way in. You can see your mother is still breathing, though she needs medical attention. You gasp, drawing the beast's attention. What will you do?

    Rachel Smit, Tauren Shaman

I narrowed my eyes as the ring's glow began to fade. For a brief stabbing instance, instinct compelled me to rush out and join chase. However, as I looked back at the board I knew that I couldn't leave them. Not right now. Not until I could properly get them into some kind of group or hierarchy.
It was kind of like running an army, really.

I compelled the girls to simply keep the gems for now, keep them hidden and tell no one that they had one. Until we knew what we had to do with them it was better to leave it for now until we could better understand it. Leave it until desperation took hold. In my head I hoped that I would be able to find a gem, test it and give them my results. In reality I knew that one of them would try to 'consume' it sooner rather than later.

A jolt of terror lept through me as the phone down stair began to ring.

Ears twitching and head turning back and forth, I slowly crawled out of my chair and made my way down stairs to the phone.

    *Click*

    "Hello, is Rachel there?"

"Moo?" My face went scarlet as I realised my mistake. "...Err... I mean, hello?
  11. As you lay in bed, you happen to notice your ring's glow getting fainter...
  12. Sidewaysvision Omnipotent on fridays

"Hey, Rachel! This is Angelica. From Philly! So, some weird stuff showed up and I was wondering if you could hang out sometime? Also..."

I paused, looking at the brightly-shining gem on my finger.

"...I'm going to guess you had a really weird dream last night?"

As I waited for her reply, I quietly(well, as quiet as hooves allow, anyhow) crept across the kitchen, peeking quickly out the windows for any signs of ELDRITCH ABOMINATION.

Good thing the kitchen phone is cordless. Maybe I should have used the cellphone Dad got me for emergencies, though...
  13. Looking out of your window, you see a strange undulating plant with vines growing out of it in your yard outside. You don't remember it being there before...
  14. soulpillar Riding solo in the code

I racked my mind for an Angelica.
Oh! Oh yes! The other hoofed girl. I'm not completely sure how she got my number but we'd been in contact for a few months now. I'd been meaning to actually introduce her to the BBS but it kept slipping my mind.

"...I'm going to guess you had a really weird dream last night?"

"Yes... Yes I did. Listen, Angelica, it's important to make whatever excuse you can so we can meet up. I think there's another girl in Boston too, she has wings. How about me meet up half way in New York or something?"

There was no answer to my questions.
"M-maybe you can catch the train the day after tomorrow...? Does that sound good...? Angelica...?"
I couldn't say that I had known her for that long but it didn't seem normal for her to leave me hanging like that.
  15. Sidewaysvision Omnipotent on fridays

I blinked as the shock of suddenly seeing a MYSTERIOUS PLANT! in the back yard was pierced by the voice on the phone.

"That could work," I whispered as I kept an eye on the plant-thing, "But I think I gotta go. Monster thing showed up, and I'd better get rid of it before more problems happen... I'll call you later. Seeya."

I hung up and placed the handset on the kitchen table. Time to get to work.

If anyone had been in the kitchen at that precise moment, they would have been treated to the sight of a small demonic child high-crawling across the kitchen floor like a diminutive D-day commando in pink pajamas. I couldn't spare a thought for how ridiculous I looked at the moment, though-if I tried to blast it from the house, I'd probably destroy the window, set the garden on fire, and be in DEEP TROUBLE.

Being grounded from movies, the internet, or practicing magic would REALLY suck right now.

I eased my way over to the back door and quietly eased it open at a glacial pace. Slipping through as soon as I was able, I didn't even bother to shut it-that would give up the element of surprise, after all.

Now, how to kill it without destroying the flower-beds? Tricky.

    Oh well.

    I hope this works.

"Eat THIS!" I shouted at the demonic plant-thing as I unleashed a spell designed to inflict it with decay and rot-an affliction of corruption that would hopefully consume it without obliterating the entire back yard.

As it quivered under the sudden magical assault, I realized one other tiny, salient point about the Corruption spell: it took actual time to kill. And the plant was only twenty feet from me.

    "Eheheh. Whoops!"

    Felicia Delrosier

Oh, crap! It only took a moment or two to remember: gem goes shiny when monsters nearby. An awesome advantage to hunting the things down myself, but since it was shining now...

Felice bolted out of her bed, not even bothering to change out of her pea-green pajamas as she was shouting and running for the door. She'd worry about that kind of thing after the monster was dead. "DAD! MOM! LOOK OUT! MONSTERS!"

She did wonder in the back of her mind... How would people cope with monsters coming out of thin air? She didn't know if it would be better or worse if the monster were localized to girls to like her. No, that would definitely be worse.

I yell out in terror, then I run up to the monster and try to use my martial arts skills to take the hammer out of its hands, and beat it up with it before I try to heal mom.
    I am very angry.
  18. desertcoyote62 Desert Trekker

OOC: I live over 100 miles frolm.any forest in the desert. I willl modify using desert field near my house since the ring was glowing brightly.

IC: flying up into the sky I see a young Ork boy in the field across the street, sitting on a old couch somebody dumped, under a Palo Verde tree. As I fly closer theboy spots me and runs away screaming. Its now or never I tell myself. I fly quickly to the boy, faster than he could ever hope to run.
I grab him around the neck and fly up intothe air. Looking the boy in the eyes I say," Such an ugy.little creature. I wonder if you taste as horible as you look? You will not survive today young ork for you have not enough dakka!" Having completed my little speach I will quickly rip the little orks head off.
  19. A loud shriek fills the air as your spell takes ahold of the plant creature. A huge bulb erupts from the center of the plant, then blossoms into a strange flower with a beautiful nude woman in the center. The plant's petals begin to slowly decay as the flower monster says in a sickly sweet tone, "Now that wasn't very nice!"

Barbed vines burst from the ground around your feet. Your blood seeps from small scratches as the vines wrap around your legs. The strangely glowing crimson liquid seeps into the monstrous plant, stopping the decay and making it grow slightly bigger and thornier. "Oooh, that's tastier than that old one I had earlier!" Looking down you notice the shriveled corpse of the local mailman tangled in the vines at the base of the plant. You wonder how you didn't notice it before. "I wonder how much blood you have?" she coos.

"Felice?" you hear your mother questioningly call. You shout for her to trust you and she reluctantly agrees.

As you near the door, odd music begins to fill the air. Five strange creatures slip into the room through cracks in the room's windowsill, under your door, and from the room behind you. They are willowy, otherworldy creatures clad in white, with a strange emblem on their heads. Some of them seem to dance upside down in thin air on walls you can't see, while others slide around you. One seems to study you for a moment, then the zipper around its head opens, revealing a gray mouth. You don't actually hear anything, but inside your mind a voice echoes...

Interesting. Perhaps you know where our Hearts are...

Then the white creature's head zips back up and it lashes out with a kick. The others follow.

Your martial arts training pays off and you manage to wrench the big hammer out of its hands. Without the mallet, the monster seems much weaker. Its feeble punches do little more than make small bruises. After a blow to the head, the monster falls to the ground with a crash, unconcious. Ignoring the now unthreatening creature, you turn your attention to your mother. She is unconcious, with blood flowing down her body from a blow to her head. Focusing your magic as best you can, you cast a spell of healing. It works better than you would have thought, perhaps the adrenaline from the battle is aiding you? At any rate, your mother's wounds quickly close and she wakes up. "Oooh, what happened?" your mother asks groggily. "And what's that thing?" she says, pointing at the unconcious fat goblin creature laying on your kitchen floor amidst the rubble.

    OOC: Oops, desert works fine.

IC: Blood and gore spatter you as you wrench the terrified and confused orc child's head off. Its small body falls to the ground, blood gushing out of its neck. After a moment, the body begins to fade away in a red mist, coalescing into a shining red gem sitting in a rapidly spreading pool of crimson liquid...
  20. Sidewaysvision Omnipotent on fridays

    "Ahahah... ohcrap!"

I'll admit I freaked out a little when the vines burst out from the ground. Moreso when they scratched me; I'm pretty tough, after all. But the really bad part was when the crazy plant-lady managed to consume some of my blood.

See, demon blood is chock-full of nasty energy. It's called "Fel energy," and it's basically horribly mutative, addictive, and powerful. Magical PCP, basically.

And this plant lady had just sipped a tiny, tiny bit.

    So much for subtlety!

The world suddenly exploded in darkness around me as I invoked one of my(in my own opinion) best spells-the spell of Shadowfury. Grass and trees all around me withered into dust(sorry mom!) at the sudden onslaught of mystical energy.

Even the plant-creature shouldn't be immune to THAT kind of nasty effect, after all... and anything that survived Shadowfury would be stunned for a few seconds anyhow, seconds I could use to shapeshift some wings and get some distance from the crazy demonic-plant lady.
  21. drake_azathoth A Cold Winter Knight

"Holy Crap! THUNDER!" Felice screams and backs off, firing off blast after blast of lightning rapidly at the creatures like freaking Palpatine from Star Wars as she frantically tries to put any obstacle in the room she can find between her and them without cornering herself. Despite her haste, she does take time to actually AIM the blasts rather than flailing madly as she'd really like to.

"THUNDER!" She was expecting trouble but is still hardly able to believe there are no less than FIVE monsters in her bedroom. Calling for one of her buddies would be a DANDY option normally but in such crowded quarters she'd be likely to blast them herself if she was not extremely careful. Which means she'll save THAT for when she's on her last legs magic-wise... Which could come sooner than she'd like at this rate!

    "THUNDER!"
  22. The plant-woman shudders under the assault of entropic energy, some of the outer leaves and petals shriveling away. The vines wrapped around your legs turn gray and weak. You quickly kick them off. The Shadowfury spell has stunned the plant for a couple of seconds, seconds you quickly take advantage of. Sprouting some red bat-like wings which rip through the back of your shirt, you take to the air. Angry now, the plant creature causes some new thorned vines to grow with bulbs on the end. She points them at you and they spit strange black seeds at you. You get the idea that it would be a very bad if they were to hit.

You manage to catch one of the white creatures by surprise in a blast of electricity. It shudders and fades away, leaving nothing behind. But the other creatures are wary of your powers now, slipping and sliding inhumanly around your spells. The bursts of lightning burn holes through your bedroom walls, one blowing out your window. Eventually, you run out of mana. In the close quarters of your bedroom, you can't dodge and are eventually cornered. Two of them grab your arms and hold you down while the third pins your legs. For all their weak and thin appearance, they are incredibly strong. The final one slowly walks up and touches you, just above your heart. The world seems to fade into darkness...

...You find yourself sitting on a stained glass window in an endless void. A strange sleeping girl you don't recognize is depicted in the glass before you. She has long blonde hair and is clad in white. As you look around, you hear an ethereal voice in your mind.

    The way is open...

But there are many perils ahead...

Things you never thought you would see...

Friends you never thought you would have...

You have already awakened your power, but have yet to give it form...

    Allow me to help...

In a flash of light, a strange metal object appears in your hands. It is large and shaped like a key. It looks as though it should be very heavy, but it feels as light as a feather. As you hold it, you feel vigor and power flow through you. Suddenly, creatures begin to appear around you. Some are the white creatures you faced before, but the others are new, made out of what looks to be living shadow.

    Don't fear the Darkness...

For you hold Light in your hands...

They lunge towards you as music echoes out of the void...
