The US has been doing a very good job of reminding people of that by shitting all over international law for the past half century or so, tyvm. Because it can.

And a country doesn't have to be under existential threat for it to be concerned about security. Or did North Vietnam have a hitherto unknown capacity to invade the US back in 1965?

Honestly I kind of agree with Teen Spirit. While a double down might not harm you quite as much in the long run, in the short term, it feels worse. When I eat a large hamburger, I feel satisfied and full. With the double down, it felt like I had eaten a large fried sperm whale.

So the fact that they have a neighbour who's quite billigerent towards them to the point of testing missiles capable of carrying nuclear warheads into their country and said as such as well as who has in recent years been yelling and screaming at them with various threats means nothing... Please don't act stupid.

If its nuclear missiles that they are worried about, direct borders with another country are not going to make much of a difference one way or another. Ground troops, maybe. If anyone in the world had enough to matter considering both the target and the fact that they would have one hell of a time running logistics and just getting there.

I take it you missed all the noise that India has made and continues to make about China damming rivers that would normally flow through India. All the way to the point where India has stated that military intervention might be on the table. The US has done much the same thing with places like Panama, so as I said, please don't be stupid.

Child mortality was something like 50%. Birth defects were high. Life expectancy was grim. Infrastructure non existant. No roads, no technology, pure substanance level farming. The bulk of the population were serfs to the religious rulers, aka slaves by any other name.

There are very valid things to rebuke China over regarding Tibet and their rule over the place. No one can seriously deny that. It was also clearly an independent state and their rants about it being forever part of China have no more basis then the PRC's yelling about how they own the seas from their coast to within swimming distance of everyone around them...

But there is a lot of willing blindness about Tibet in the West in terms of the horrible place it was before the PRC spent decades and billions lifting them up towards a modern society. They were not all Dalli Lama nice guys sitting around in stunning temples praying all day and hurting no one...

India versus China is really nothing at all like America versus Panama...

But that's all rather beside the point. Isn't this thread supposed to be discussing the Chinese mission to their little Salyut-type space station?

I really do want another space race.

re Tibet: One of the major reasons it is occupied is the fact that it is the source of water in China, all the major Chinese rivers originate from the Tibetan plateau.

if I remember correctly that is.

The Shinzou(?) 9 has successfully docked with the Tinhahou(?) 1 Space Lab.
  11. Apparently they will try a manuel docking later.
  12. Caboose Imperial Fanatic

Yeah, all docking's on the Space Lab, so far have been done remotely vis a station back on Earth. Be interesting to see the manual.

I'm really glad for China. It's good to see them making strides in space exploration considering all the bad news coming out of Russia and the USA.
  14. Caboose Imperial Fanatic

    What bad news for Russia?
  15. Centron ... --- ...

    Syria? :p
  16. Dain Friendly Neighborhood Spy

They've had a long string of 'bad luck' /malfunctions in their program lately. Their Mars mission failed and they had two (or was it three?) launch failures with Soyuz just last year to the point that the manned mission to the ISS was in question. In other words, they have systemic problems in the quality of their rockets.
  17. Caboose Imperial Fanatic

I'm a bit out of loop on the Russian Space Program, Did not know this.
  18. Big Congrats to China.
  19. Styxx Hopeful Skeptic

Neat. When will they get their orbital death cannons up so they can laser Brasilia?
  20. Dain Friendly Neighborhood Spy

Those are already in place, duh. You only do the official high-profile photo-op after all your secret wonder weapons are long since ready!
