I don't know if anyones seen this before but whatever.

I have that last panel as a Desktop sometimes, in full colour.

... I'm confused. What's that picture about?

From what I know, it's an early scene from Homeworld where after a training mission or something, the Mothership and fleet return home to find their homeworld has been torched, 40K-style.

I don't think it's worth spoiler tags because it happens in like the first two or so missions.

Kharak is burning.

The female voice you hear is Karan S'jet, who is directly linked into every part of the Mothership as its biological core processing unit.

Also the moment when the attackers go from being "Enemy" to "BURNTHEMALL!ALLMYHATE!"

It is a scene from the first Homeworld. More than a hundred years ago the wreck of a spaceship was found buried in the desert. Inside it was ftl drive and a map. One planet was simply marked "Hiigara" the ancient homeworld. After the discovery the planet united into one purpose: to reach the stars and travel home. It was a time of hope, of great innovation and achievements. After the the great Mothership was completed it left the scaffold, to jump the first time and test the Hyperspace core and then to return home and pick up the cryo-trays with 200k colonists each before setting out on it's great journey. But as the Mothership returned, it found the planet consumed by a firestorm and all orbital installations destroyed. The only thing left were the cryo-trays with the last of your people...

And someone was trying to destroy them.

For me the only thing that comes close to the gut-punch of that mission is the finale of Homeworld 2, when you fail to intercept all the planet killers. Seeing those blotches as the atmosphere is consumed - and the less-than-dispassionate details of how many millions perished is terrible. Abso-bloody-lutely terrible.

I'll be nicking this for my desktop for a bit.

That is the aftermath of the extermination of Kharak. This is the most heart wreching scene I've seen. Hundreds of millions of people, exterminated with a single order. All that is left is 600k people in cryotrays and the Mothership.

The crew of the force treated it like another day at the office.

To you, you turn the Taidan from a simple enemy to EXTERMINATE!!! You will feel great joy killing every single one of them. You will crackle in hot for every total defeat you give them. They wiped out over 300 million people in a single stroke. They will give you no mercy, so why give them any?

You expressed ignorance regarding a moment many people list as one of the most emotionally charged experiences in gaming, from one of the best games in gaming. Of course they're all rushing to their keyboards to answer.
