St. Evil, do you have the most recent arma 2 beta patch? It looks to have updated today - ftp://downloads.bistudio.com/arma2.com/update/beta/ARMA2_OA_Build_93666.zip
Apparently the wheels wear out and then it becomes slow at going uphill. So you found a worn out bike.
Arma II and Operation Arrowhead is needed to play. I ordered Combined operations of of Amazon which has both Operation Arrowhead and Arma II.
You need get Arma 2 as well as Operation Arrowhead (get Combined Operations, it will save you $10 over buying them seperately). Once you have the game downloaded watch the video on this page http://dayzmod.com/downloads.php and follow the instructions. You then should probably get the Arma 2 beta patch (top of this page). EDIT: ninja'd (Steam is where I bought my copy)
right, I did not know this - the version number is familiar though from the servers! I'll give it a try tonight when I get home - Thanks
Quickest way to learn DayZ is to team up with someone and learn the ropes as they show you around. Playing on your own, it gets difficult. I was surviving on my own, but still ended up learning from another player with voip.
I don't do it personally, but I don't see why you'd call them "asshats" for it. Moar tears etc. Edit: But I do kill almost everyone I come across. People just aren't worth the risk.
Struggling to get the mod running Ran the updater on Worrom. It stopped during the install as it detected my version of java was outdated, so I updated. Re-ran the prog and let it download all the files. The next day I tried running it via the 'play' button, nothing happens. Checked up on the net, if you have the Steam version of Arma you're apparently supposed to see it on your library list, but it isn't showing there. Checked around a bit more and it turns out the game hates java64, so I uninstalled it and reinstalled the 32-bit version. Still nothing. What did I do wrong?
I finally got Arma II Combined Operations. I'll get Day Z set up after get finished playing some Sins of a Solar Empire Rebellion.
As far as I know, you should run both Arma 2 and Operation Arrowhead before installing the mod. If you don'f feel comfortable installing the mod files yourself, there is an automatic installer/launcher at http://dayzmod.com/downloads.php . I installed manually myself, as there wasn't the option for the launcher then. Also, I personally install the latest Arma 2 beta patches at http://www.arma2.com/beta-patch.php as they allow one to play on pretty much any server.
The game is designed to be a lawless postapocalyptic survival game, and on top of this it provides no real endgame survival objectives and no mechanic to deter PKing at present. It's no wonder that the game is Team Deathmatch: Zombie Chernarus Edition, and for the time being that's its intended state of affairs. I for one hope Rocket deals with annoying hacker guy(s) and gets the mod on track for a better survivor endgame and some disincentive for playing TDM, but to call the people embracing the natural state of the game "asshats" is silly, I concur.
The best way I see of solving this is to give more incentive for being social. Make the game in general more difficult to play just by yourself. Roving hordes of zombies in the woods, scarcer food or other items. Hell maybe allow for a group of players to capture a town and hold it off from bandits and zombie hordes. Award players for being a team player. When I go to Mirror USA to download Day Z files it simply won't let me connect to it. Edit: Okay I'm using Six updater which seemed to be a incredibly easy way of downloading Day Z but now every time I try and join a game I get automatically kicked. Edit 2: I think the main problem I was having was due to my game being the wrong version. Right now I'm updating it with a new patch. Although since I don't usually play PC games it took me a moment to figure out how to patch the game.
Darkdruid and I had an awesome round. We hit Balota airfield where I managed to upgrade from AKM to Red Dot M4 carbine. Dark had plenty of AKM mags. We eventualy made our way north and visited the military camp at Stary Soby. Holy shit that place is worth while. Not as much loot as NW Airfield, but very condensed. So in a small space you can get insane loot. Dark found a freaking GPS. We server hopped and hit it again for a lot of M1911 and STANAG ammo. But Stary is dangerous. Its close to NW Airfield and has its own valuable loot. So its a popular place. Next time I hit it, I would like a crew. That way we can have lookouts while we grab gear.
AFAIK the PK'ing situation is mostly the way Rocket wants it to be right now, and I think he finds the whiny victims as hilarious as the bandits do. This seems a bit familiar to an EVE player.
Right now I am currently playing and holy hell the atmosphere is scary as hell. Sneaking by a dozen zombies is already nerve wrecking. Unfortunatley I've so far found nothing noteworthy.
Eh, I give up. Reinstalled the entire game plus expansion, redid the installer thing, nothing. On the plus side at least I ended up enjoying Arma...
Did you try manually installing it? This video seems to work with Steam. I don't have it on Steam, but I can tell you it was a fucking bitch trying to get the damn patches to work for Operation Arrowhead (which kept saying the Direct3D9 graphical engine wasn't working). Hell its 7:13 a.m. here and I was committed to not getting bested by my limited knowledge of this game and mod. Plus I simply didn't want 30 dollars to go to waste. Manually installing should work since they tell you how to get it to show on Steam library.
I'd like to join that crew. So far I'm not really getting any good gear. At the most I got plenty of food and drink. For weapons I have a Makarov and Lee enfield.
