Dungeon Keeper Ami Thread #3

Discussion in 'The Index' started by Robo Jesus, Feb 12, 2012.

1. Not sure why you'd think that, since it was pretty well established this particular target would take more troops than Ami and all of her nominal allies combined could bring to the target, and that'd just result in enough killing for the Crowned Death to take another shot at forcing his way into reality.

If we're going to see a meatgrinder - and it's certainly possible we will - it will be somewhere Ami can actually move a significant number of troops to, and not a Dark God's temple. Probably on the border of one of Clairemonte's territories.

I had figured it as a trend in general which this plot arc has proven wrong on my part which was why I mentioned it in the past tense.
3. I think the trend for the chapter or two before, was "rely on your friends" or something like that.

I do hope that what you were expecting happens eventually, I just don't really feel like it would have worked well in this particular situation with the whole underwater thing.
4. mackon Missing & Presumed Dead

That was part of it Ami has collected the forces and leaders just somewhere for that directed force to be applied and since it was pretty spotted lighted before this whole Crowned Death arc I'd imagined that was the direction things were going. But its seems not. I'm not too disappointed really, except that I got it wrong.

One advantage of what Tiger did is that she used the Dungeon Heart to create elements in a specific combination: While DK-verse isn't without knowledge on chemistry and related sciences, it may very well be short on the crucial details to mimic the process (at least not without having a few Keepers cause excessive amounts of collateral damage to themselves). Then, as mentioned, it's best reserved for defensive measures than offensive (since it'll have to be made through Dungeon Hearts for most Keepers, on their own territory, and transporting it requires a degree of caution unless you can regenerate / revive).

Hopefully the Fairy King didn't spaz out when she got control of the Dungeon Heart and immediately cut the connection to tell everyone else. Why? Consider what the last sight would be: Ami takes resources from all the other nations, slows the Crowned Death's ship... then seizes control. And nobody can find it afterwards. How many are going to believe that she purposefully destroyed it? That it was possessed by accident?

Yes, but building the film up requires some time. Do it too fast and you get a metal-fluoride fire. Those are fun
if you are nowhere near them :p
.

We know how to do that, but how much trial and error would it take? Especially with a *fun* substance like chlorinetrifloride?

Posting here for posterity.

Congratulations Ami, Tiger, here's your spacebattles membership cards, and please accept this Maxim #37 award from all of us at Spacebattles.com.

#37. There is no 'overkill.' There is only 'open fire' and 'I need to reload.'

Godspeed you two, godspeed.

Someone on Addventure commented on how just about everyone who was watching will gravitate to Mercury's spy harpoon fish as the "weapon" that turned a giant underwater stone fortress into a burning hulk, which was under thousands of feet of water.

I can't help but think this is exactly what's going to happen. And yet again everyone gets it totally wrong.
9. is it me, or every single "scientific mind in primitive world" ALWAYS uses this same tactic at different degrees?

I remember reading at least 4 other fics, even a Naruto one with the same thing, only in small dart doses
10. Wakka Drive Systems

I freely admit that I never saw this end coming. That was just priceless.
11. If I may Dan? The thing about Real Science when used as such is that its real. There are only so many things you can do with it at the moment. There are only so many known compounds, elements, and mineral extracts to use that have such effects. So, when someone wants something that reacts with such vigor and in such a conditions and perform a search, they would get a very short list of compounds to use that fulfill that criteria.

In such, Chlorine tetrafluoride is used because it will react with almost anything you bring it in contact with and under virtually any conditions. It reacts with Organic, Non-organic, Metals, Liquids, Synthetics, Plastics, and pretty much everything under the sun, and it reacts violently. It is Corrosive, Explosive, Flammable, Poisonous, and more. It is a neat little chemical package of death and pain used in rocket fuel, industrial cleaning and etching operations in the semiconductor industry, in nuclear reactor fuel processing, and other industrial operations.

This is not taking into account that it can go off without a viable ignition source. One moment, container of Chlorine tetrafluoride. The next, Unimaginable Pain and Death.
12. Einsieg The deep end.

Is the use of a violently reactive chemical really that much of a common tactic that it's disruptive to your ability to enjoy the story?

I find it difficult to understand how any fiction about a scientifically-minded person in a primitive or almost purely magical setting would not try to blindside the opposition with even a basic understanding of scientific principles. It's the strength they have, they've got to make use of it.
13. justbrowsing Accidentally all the fics

Chlorine Trifluoride is the compound that all the other explosives want to be when they grow up. It's pretty much the biggest explody-type hammer you can have without going nuclear. D:

It might be interesting if another keeper DID see how it was created. Can you imagine how many labs and warlocks a keeper could go through trying to create and store that stuff?

EDIT: Woah, I think dan-heron got the message guys. Double ninja'd
14. it just seems so, boring to tell the truth. It just doesn't have a "whoa" factor anymore.
15. Einsieg The deep end.

What fics are you reading that used this tactic? I have never seen them.
16. mackon Missing & Presumed Dead

Could you link some of these "scientific mind in primitive world" fics? They seem a bit thin on the ground from what I've seen.

Did anyone else notice that the SCE can apparently either control sea creatures or at least communicate with them Aquaman Style?
18. not really Mackon. I remember reading the part where everybody is shocked that X person makes water burn plenty of times, though.

Maybe I just got to read the few that used this thing and isn't as common as I'm remembering it
19. firefossil I have charts. Lots of charts.

"Biggest explody-type hammer" is a poor term to use, as there are more efficient non-nuclear explosives than Chlorine Triflouride.

Metaphoircally, Chlorine Triflouride is the Batman to TNT's Superman. Pound for pound, it trades raw power for versatility.

Also, I fear whoever creates a Chlorine Triflouride elemental. I'd imagine it'd basically be like the creeper from Minecraft, except worse in every way.
20. Sounds like you need a dose of hard fantasy Dan. Step away from the science and go read something with Dragons and Princesses.

Dammit, what was the name of that one book? It had a really cool twist to it, where a normal guy wound up in a Fantasy World, but inhabiting the body of a full grown Black Dragon. A Black Dragon with Enemies. Lots of them. Because the previous inhabitant was a serious bastard. Either way, it was supposedly a really good read.
21. I read a book with a plot vaguely like that (wound up in the body of a dragon), but I sort of remember the dragon being the village idiot and no one taking him seriously.
22. Have to look it up later.

Off hand, if you wanted sheer explosive power without going Nuclear, then the most powerful known substance that comes to my mind is Octanitrocubane. Try saying that 10 times fast and see what happens.

Anyways, its a experimental synthetic explosive that makes TNT look like party-crackers, small samples ranging in explosive yield two to three times greater then double or triple the amount in TNT. It is also just as stable a explosive if not more then TNT, and is environmentally safe.

But that is just what I know off the top of my head. I might be wrong.

Oh, and it is Non-Oxygen Combustible. It does not require atmosphere to detonate, meaning it can be triggered in a air-free environment, or even in a void.

The Dragon Knight series of fantasy novels by Gordon R. Dickson
24. mkire Lee-ko is adorable

if either of you discover the name of the book(s) please message me with it.
25. Mine was a series, if it helps. The main character recovers his body at the end of the first book, becomes a minor lord, and ends up apprenticed to a wizard.

I can't find the name of the series. It was pretty mediocre, but the local liberty had all the books.
