I would honestly say I've come to regard Warringer's Back Home as this. Well sort off. My anger and irritation is from the sheer amount of OOC behavior he has the Tenchi cast do, making all of the races here (with the exception of the Doranians who are Kzinti expys) into Mary Sues, and making the Terran faction (Earth) into another Mary Sue. Both of the main races and allies of the two main empires are portrayed as 2-D cutouts that will always be outmanuevered by smug Terrans and Terran-allied races. Then I found out that, for the Tenchi Muyo portions, that Warringer hadn't done much research. That made me even angrier because it made me realize his OOC characterization about characters like Ayeka were not just due to his belief about shipping (he very obviously wants Ryoko to win Tenchi over), but also he hadn't even looked at the source material for some time. Seriously using Google I can find information for anything within minutes and he claims "faulty memory" as an excuse? However I did enjoy his battle scenes in the story, his explanation for how military warfare was conducted among the Galactics, the political aspect (well mostly the astrographic part), and the military (offensive/defensive) technology
shitttt. why did you have to bring up that fic? I had finally managed to expunge all memory of that fic.
Heh, the discussions inside the BH threads were interesting at times. I never even bothered with the stories for many of the reasons wellis pointed out, but the conversations that would pop up now and then were fun to get in on.
Sorry. I just needed to get it out. I still feel my blood boil about those problems. I could've forgiven it if he hadn't made the Tenchi Muyo characters OOC, tried to make their presentation more 3-D in the story, and didn't make Earth and its allies to be such Mary Sues. Yes they have a different way of thinking, but groups like the Minbari and Jurains wouldn't just dismiss them out of hand, but be analyzing to figure out how they're getting around established doctrine. Hell Funaho is head of Jurai's intelligence service or something, right?
it's sad, i think i spent more time arguing with warringer over BH's direction than reading the actual fic towards the end.
Personally I always enjoyed the military sci-fi aspect of the story, but the characterization was annoying. Any group either on Earth or Earth-related was made into Mary Sues. It was also annoying how sychopantic Barricade or others could be regarding these problems.
BH and in turn the various reboots of it just felt yawn after a while. I mean to the point when he tried it again it just felt like "How long until this one implodes."
There really wasn't anything wrong with the background of the series. At the very least I liked the fact he created a semi-original universe like that. What he needed to do was watch the Tenchi Muyo OVA and Galaxy Police OVA to figure out character personalities.
Joe, do you ever stop trolling? Even when someone, either someone 'less' educated then you (which you love to seem to go after with a vengeance, even when they're obviously TRYING to learn/improve - and you don't give a fuck, and slam them anyways, and never let up on them), or someone that's actually got a good point (a rarity I have to admit), and you still slam them. Pretty much for those reasons alone I ignore your fics now like the plague. I happened to originally like the nBSG ones you did until you started with the attitude. Even when someone was being polite, you got vicious. Frankly, you got issues, that I just don't want to deal with when trying to navigate between chapters, and it's nothing but trolling.
Joe never is willing to back down. He'll claim a children's TV show is a more reliable source than a history written by someone with a relevant PhD and official US government records if the latter have the audacity to disagree with him.
Damn straight I will. So, Barricade, what did you do to get banned anyways? I mean, you really don't seem like the type. You're obviously willing enough to brag about it to post about it in your visitor messages, but then get all cagey when poked about it... makes a person curious...
No; he never stops trolling. Well trolling isn't quite the right word; but he never stops whatever you want to call it. Some times; as with the case where he was talking about "less educated" it's annoying and he sounds like Foamy or one of Squishy's off days. Most of the time? It's perfectly justified. It's definitely annoying when he dismisses a good point because it's not well presented but I've yet to see him level unfair criticism at a story. Unlike... This bullshit. Because that's what it is: Bullshit. More than that it's exactly what you were just calling Joe out for. Why does it matter if Joe's an ass? Why would you possibly deal with him between chapters? Are you somehow incapable of skipping two paragraphs of Authors Notes? And why does that impact the quality of the story at all? Answer: It doesn't; and if you're ignoring things because the writer can be an ass you must not read very much. Hint: Almost all of us are assholes. tl;dr: People on this board are incapable of separating authors from their writing and it's annoying as hell.
To be fair, deliberate misuse of the English language to try and justify misstatements rather than retracting them or proving them means you're either less educated than me or a complete retard, and I think most people would rather fall into the former category because at least the less educated are a teachable category. I mean, the people I applied that to today were essentially going "Did I say rape? I meant rape as in a rollicking good time among friends. Isn't that what rape means to all of us?" You have to admit, seeing someone actually be clear, concise, and coherent on this site (a definite rarity) and then ruin it with a 4chan-ese footnote just for the hell of it grates on you too. It's particularly infantile considering A.) everything of mine is available off-site on archives that don't require registration and B.) every thread of mine on here has the first post of the story in use as an index with links. So it's a spectacularly bullshit-stuffed excuse since said user has not one but two ways to not see anything but the story he claims he'd read if not for the posts in between chapters. Then again, this is also the guy wandering around talking about how he shouldn't be talking about his ban, so I'm gonna file Barricade under "common sense is no longer common" and move on with my life.
1. That came out of nowhere 2. That argument has been long dead for 2 pages or so. Joe doesnt troll. Or at least he doesnt do it all the time. I would call it sticking to his guns. As for avoiding Joe's work because of... well Joe being Joe: Eh... I can kind of see the justification for it. But outright stating that his fics are bad because Joe is a bad person? Lol. How. what. I. Dont even. You can fix ignorant. You cant fix stupid.
I picked 'rape' because it jumps right out and the whole quote makes things especially laugh-worthy, but the summary of the overall situation is factual enough. "Oh. You said X? And I said Y? Oh, well, it doesn't matter that I'm arguing something that's not even what you posted, because X and Y mean the same thing. Oh. They don't actually mean the same thing? Yes they do. Because I said so." At which point I told people to go learn the English language and get themselves an edumacation and a few people got bent out of shape and called me a troll. And don't blame Barricade for being late. He was banned! Oh wait, that was like a month ago or something. I don't know then.
GODDAMMIT BARRICADE! *facepalm* We reached a point of equilibrium with Joe, now we can do it all over again. Oh, and ignoring a good fiction because of its author isn't really what I would call a "intelligent method". Sure, if you hate the author' guts, it can grate on you, but if the story is really enjoyable... It goes hands in hands with the fact that we are authors and readers who talk to each other, who know each other. So, we tend to associate a story with its author. Error: you can fix stupid. It's just really tiresome and kinda difficult... Ok, I admit it: sometimes impossible. Picked 'rape' ? Yeah, that's disgraceful to try to shock your opponents like that in a polite and intelligent argument.
It's Joe. That's all there is to it. This all he ever does... Also, since you seem so interested in Barracade's ban, how about you tell us about that time that you were banned and were bitching about it on Twitter Joe?
Who used to be known by the name Skysaber, BTW... yes. THAT Skysaber. Even if you don't watch it you should appreciate how god awful that kind of one sided shit-fic is. "I want you, and your god forsaken ilk... your entire species... to cease to be destroyed utterly, excised from the timeline so you never existed, and in your last moment of existence to feel like we feel all the terror, horror, and fear you've caused over the eons before being consigned to the void of nothingness. Can you give me that?" That would be awesome. I agree. Hijinks with little plastic mans is funny. Making it real, dumb. I do. At least the ones from Shinji in 40k are fun... the ones from Thousand Shinji need to be eternally sodomized with power tools. Except Misato. She'd probably like it. For me its Harry/Ginny which was so persuasive that the author ran with it. Honestly it read like Harry/Luna was what she planned up to the middle of book 6 where she pulled the "monster in his chest" (sounds like a parasite or something) out of her rectum. Honestly I think they can be awesome, if well written. If well written. Dear God YES! There's a reason Awkward Consequences has been sitting untouched for about 7 years. I just can't write a character I have learned to hate. How about no. Awful fic is awful. I love this one... And why not? I blame Barricade. He kept pulling new toys out of his ass, and Warringer kept making them cannon. That said, I also blame Barricade for being one of the cancers that destroyed the BTech Round Robin, which for me is the incarnation of this thread. Creepy Troll on Troll action, what can you say? If the Shoe fits... As I said before, off the top of my head, I nominate the Btech Round Robin as well as the Naruto Fanfic "Team 8".
Actually, I don't in fact have to have the same opinion of this sort of fic as you do. Shocking, isn't it? It would indeed.
No it doesn't. It goes hand in hand with being a shitty reader. Admittedly interacting with the author makes it more in your face but if you want to go anywhere you absolutely have to be able to separate people from their ideas. This isn't exclusive to writing either; this is an ability you absolutely have to pick up if you want to be a decent human being. There are plenty of terrible and stupid people out there who once in a while have fantastic ideas. If you just dismiss those ideas because you don't like the person who came up with them you're failing at whatever it is you're trying to do.
Inverse is also true. I mean, I'm sure Steve Ballmer is a nice enough guy but look at some of the stuff that comes out of his corner of Microsoft.
