Grand Sweeping Generalisation No.1 All anti-globilisation people should be shot. As I've said before, about a 5th of them are protesting because they know all about Marx and whatnot. The other 4 5ths are doing it because they think they're going against the government which, currently, is a "cool" thing to do. I love it, in Melborne (I think) recently we had a big protest with people holding up these great plackards with portraits of Marx on them and other such Marxist paraphenalia. I bet that maybe TWO people in that crowd understood and was willing to go through with the steps Marx sets out to achieve power. I bet you most of the crowd (although they'd say they want to kill the Goverment) wouldn't actually do it. And how many in that crowd were religeous people? A fair few I'd hope. Do they know that in Marxism at its purest you can't have ANY sort of Religeon? Yeah, these anti-globalisation protesters have sure got their priorities straight... BYE
Re: Grand Sweeping Generalisation No.1 I wouldn't be so quick to judge if I where you the violent protestors form a minority of the movement. People who feel like they have no other alternative. I had a friend who was at London the first tome they protested there. She states that where she was for the day was peaceful, in fact a carnival atmosphere. She was with a group of people mny of whom had brought there children with them. Mothers and Fathers, everyday people should they be shot? What is unfortunate is that the violent protestors get on the news, they cause shock, the press has a simple choice show peaceful people sitting or standing at a rally or show violence and rioting. Which one gets the viewers do you think? always has been cool.... Punk movement, Hippy's, etc a new generation rises and challanges the values of the previous. Change hopefully occurs. The next Generation sees the problems of the new age in Civilatisation and challanges it. The Anti-Globalisation Protestors have a point, the Global companies rule the world... No one deserves to die, if the man had been carrying a Gun or even a sword I could understand the police reaction it's there lives but throwing a Fire extinguser at a Armoured Police vechile. Please a little overboard here. as pointed out there where better ways to deal with the man. What we have now is dead person and a grieving family all over a Fire extinguser. It seems obvious to me that Italy went Overboard from the start I mean SAM defences!! WHEN have the protesstors ever done any AIR attacks, where would they get the resources and if they had em, it would have been seen on the Internet before hand and been all over the news. : Yes they have, they care about the state of the world and it's people. They are trying to put people before profits. a Minortie uses the wrong methods, but at the same time what option remains? I can only speak from the British point of view but over here all the Political parties are like Photocopies of each other, voice is being denied politically as governements become dependent on donations from industry to fight elections. they therefore have to pay it back and the little person gets ignored.
Re: Grand Sweeping Generalisation No.1 Actually not all the protesters were Marxists or supporters of marxism. About every second lobby group you can think of was down there, and I personally think thats what was their down fall, because none of them had a clear objective between each of the groups on the day. Just more of the 'fight the system man', 'power to the people' shite.
There is indeed a hardcore of "professional" protestors who seem to travel from one event to another. There has been rising tension between them and the security forces at these events. This was an unfortunate outcome of the fact that if you keep having riots eventually someone will be killed. The italian police seemed to adopt quite the siege mentality with their big wall so I'm sure that added to the tension. The problem is that this is just going to make the "anarchists" more determined to travel the world breaking stuff. Their actions completely overshadow the legitimate protestors. of course perhaps the legitimate protestors would be ignored. Say what you like about the violence but it is effective at garnering publicity. Unfortunately their casuses are generally pretty far out and don't have much of a chance. I say that these protestors should go back to college, study something useful and get some jobs. Oh and cut their hair as well.
Yeah we've had a few at our uni on a recruitment drive when the S11/M1 protests were on, I suppose I can see them back for O3 protests
Re: Re: Grand Sweeping Generalisation No.1 The SAM defenses are obviously there in case any 'rogue nation' decides this could be a good time to send a couple of bombers that way.
Re: Re: Re: Grand Sweeping Generalisation No.1 After all Italy IS within striking distance of Lybia and the Balkans.
News to me. Imagine Libya attacking and wiping them out. Major nuclear strike or at the least invasion and occupation
And all those leaders gathered together in one place would make one hell of a tempting target. Knowing some countries, they wouldn't even be bothered if the mission was one way.
It was his fault for getting violent and throwing a fire extinguisher! If people could protest peacefully no one would get killed. Instead people throw rocks, fire extinguishers and anything else that can be thrown. I wonder if they know that all that violence only hurts their cause rather than help it. Makes them look like pillaging barbarians rather than intelligent protesters.
The protestor was also run-over by the police van. Though these anti-globalization prostetors don't exactly represent the whole anti-globalization movement (there are plenty of them who are quite peaceful about it). These protestors are hooligans, more than anything else.
Re: Re: Re: Re: Grand Sweeping Generalisation No.1 okay makes sense now. I can see that I'd not considered the chances of someone else taking advantage of the situation, which was dum of me I guess
Re: Re: Re: Grand Sweeping Generalisation No.1 Except most of those 'rogue' nations have normal relations with Italy, and most of Europe. Most of the 'rogue' nations come from a list compiled by the U.S. of nations she doesn't like.
FFS I understand that a lot of the people are non violent and groups comming in stir things up and give a bad impresion, but its starting to realy become more and more a case of a summit is an opportunity to smash things up. And by doing this they are getting the WRONG message across....sheash
REBEL SCUM!! They should do what the Chinese do to their protesters and run them over with tanks. Heh, the Chinese are fucking great.
