Anyone with a brain could have figured that out months ago.
Im gone for a few days and I miss all this engaging talk over guns in MP and S-IV's? Awh, I missed out!
That magazine cover is old. I still don't see it being the Forerunners unless it's Faber himself and the Builders.
Didact? Unless 343 pulls something funny and contradict the vast majority of the character building for the guy, then I don't see it happening.
This stuff should build up to the Precursors. If not in 4, then in the next installment. That's where this is all building up to.
If it is Precursors we best be getting some shiny Forerunner gear at the least, otherwise we're screwed.
Well, "Creator of the Halo Rings" would imply that Faber is the villain, since he comissioned them. I bet he won't be too pleased with MC blowing up 3 of his precious rings.
Anyone else get a Sauron vibe from Faber?
You mean two, and an Ark.
No, no, no, and how about fuck no!
This is Halo 4, not Red Faction: Continental Demolition Edition
If Forerunner are going to be enemies in Halo 4, then Master Chief needs some sort of major upgrade to remotely stand a chance.
You know what I would love? A level where you play as the Didact. Justify it as the Chief trying to get some info about his enemies, and there's some technobabble shit that lets Chief take a ride in the Didact's mind. Essentially, the goal here is to give the players an idea of just how hax the Forerunner were.
When the flashback or whatever starts, you find yourself on a ship with other Forerunner each screaming out mission reports while ancilla chirp about the war effort all on a big honking map of the galaxy. A group of sentinel lines managed to delay a Flood advance long enough for a series of planets to transition into slipspace. Flood incursions are getting drastic in a spiral arm. The Forerunner just detonated a couple hundred stars to try and slow the Flood down, etc... all of them getting their reports in real time. Zero delay despite the fact that there's an entire galaxy between outposts.
You then head out of the war room while another Forerunner tries to stop you from going down below to a planet. They're saying you're too valuable to the war effort and can't we please send someone else to recover whatever it is you're looking for. You say no and then you come to a Forerunner battle suit. It's obviously damaged and old. It's armor plating looks like it has cracks on it and it's obviously seen better days. It's bigger than you of course, it's a War Sphinx. One of the Forerunner apologizes for the old model while the Didact shrugs it off. You get in, get a fancy HUD start up sequence. And then you drop down to the planet below you.
As you go down, you get someone saying they couldn't just use slipspace to get you where you need but instead forced you to fall. Around you, you see some other Sphinxes, obviously your back up. Your ancilla tells you about a series of ground targets you need to destroy in order to distract the Flood long enough to accomplish your goals, then gives you a series of target points scattered around the planet you're currently falling towards. You get some control then, camera and the like, then the game tells you to fire. When you press the right trigger down, you get to see a massive beam weapon shoot. You can sweep it around, fire in short bursts, etc... your only limitation is a heat meter or something. You get to see your gun leave black tracks in the ground when you move it around while firing. You are shooting at targets literally thousands of miles away with no problems. And then Flood AA fire kicks in, your allied Sphinxes or Seekers get shot down, and eventually so do you.
Your HUD kicks up again as you wake up, your ancilla tells you that your suit's been compromised, but not so badly you can't fight. Then it tells you it's disabled wide beam access to your weapons and instead forced it to more focused shots. More an excuse to give Halo players the more traditional shooty feeling. It justifies it by saying wiping out the building you're trying to reach would be inconvenient or that because this is a Precursor structure, your shots wouldn't do much anyway. Whatever.
You go through, beat enemies, blah blah blah, and try to get the info you need (match it to the plot McGuffin the Chief needs or something, I don't know, I imagine the level layout to be similar to 343 Guilty Spark, the 6th level from Halo CE for some reason though) and then you hear your ship cut in when you're about halfway through the level, talking about how the Flood have entered just outside of combat range and are building up their forces, more ships coming in every nanosecond. 100 AU out or something, a big number. You rush through, grab your stuff, info, whatever, and when you're done you take an elevator out to what should be nighttime. Instead the entire sky is on fire, lasers and crap are soaring through, you can see individual explosions in space next to the big explosions and so forth.
The Didact signals for a slipspace teleportation back to the ship and you get back to the Chief.
This idea got stuck in my head for a few days and I had to get this out of my system. Thanks for sticking around with my brand of idiocy for a bit.
I like it. I will write another Forerunner/Stargate fic with this idea now. Didact appears in the SG'verse. When? Dunno.
I saw a theory a while back that could justify why Master Chief can fight forerunners without getting curbstomped that actually sorta makes sense in the context of the fiction. Provided, it's a LOT of speculation and a little lengthy, but were it to be true it would make perfect sense within the fiction.
Anyone find it wierd that MC and Cortana did apparently go through the Portal but weren't teleported back to Earth like the Arbiter? Well, according to the theory that was the work of Mendicant Bias, who was present on the Ark during Halo 3. On the terminal in the final level of Halo 3 Mendicant expresses regret for betraying the Forerunners and wishes to "show his creators that he had changed and make amends". Theory says MB hacked the Portal from the Ark so that it sent the back half of the Dawn somewhere relatively close to Requiem, the Halo 4 planet.
As Primordium revealed Forerunner AIs can make copies of themselves that are still extremely powerful, Mendicant, or at least part of him, would be present at Requiem. Primordium also reveals that Guilty Spark is back and plans on paying the very much alive-Librarian a visit. And we all saw that leaked image of the Mag that all but confirms the Master Builder or someone related to him as the main villain.
Theory says that both the Master Builder and his faction would be the "bad guy" Forerunners, and they will be in conflict with the Librarian or Didact's forces which would be allied, or at least non-hostile Forerunners. Requiem obviously has some big role to play in the coming trilogy, so both factions of Forerunners would be present on it for whatever reason it is important, but will also both be trapped on it by Mendicant, who seeks to prevent Faber's or something else's escape. Hence why he sent MC there to help the good Forerunners who are unfortunately stranded as well.
Relevant part of the theory says that Mendicant will also keep all or most of the uber Forerunner weapons shut down, as he was shown to be able to do in Cryptum, so as to prevent any brute force escape attempts. To kill off each other and the various kinds of dangerous wildlife on the planet, the Forerunners in the meantime have invented various less advanced (by forerunner standards) but still very deadly weaponry that are unable to punch a hole out of Requiem, but are also unable to be affected by Mendicant Bias.
No need for technobabble, the Forerunners possessed that technology for thousands of years.
Halo 4 enemy possibly revealed*SPOILERS*
Dammit...any higher rez shots where we can read the font better?
The Watcher certainly looks like a newer version of the sentinel....perhaps a monitor...don't know about the (seeminly tetrapod) figure(crawler) next to it. Does the nu-sentinel look like it has a face design on the top of it?
So... the MC, Elite Zealot, Grunt STORM!?!? a SPARTAN Warrior, and a WATCHER?!!?!?!
The eye reminds me of the Millennium Eye.
They look kinda lame to be honest.
Can someone copy past the bulletin? I can't seem to get connected to it.
As is? I kind of agree. But I'll wait til a better image is available.
It reminds me of Advent rising for some reason. It's not cool rip off of that.
I'm getting kind of a Marathon vibe from those things
No, it means that the release date of Halo 4 is going to be the same day the VS Debate forum has a Halo day.
It won't end well for Halo.
Those Mass Effect fanboys won't know what hit them, eh.
Indeed. The shock of the Forerunners being retcon pussified to the point even Mass Effect start scoring victories will cause some sort of cardiac arrest.
It's going to be a black day, is all I'm saying.
He was fighting the Forerunners, technically, since Halo:CE. I have no idea how this is supposed to be so totally new.
