I know it's impractical. But that just makes it all the more fun if I can pull it off. I'm not asking you to build an automated refiller system - this is what I would do if I were bored.

And good point on the exploding carts. I could probably have the assembler machine put down a transition rail after it sends the "I want more stuff" signal and then remove it afterwards, but it would be simpler for me to just use ordinary rails.

On the topic of the server, all the mods are now available for us to update (including Advanced Machines). The question we face now is whether we update at all - would anyone still play on the server? I think we need a new thread for this.

Very recently, I've been sloughing through a ravine about 2.5km from spawn. Hit a Mine Shaft, have about half a stack of Iron Blocks, some Gold & Diamond, now I just need to remember which way is the surface and run back home with my gear.

Once I'm done, I'm not sure what to do. Replace my wooden palisade with an expanded stone wall seems like one option, but I don't know what I'd use the space for. A second outpost on the other side of the Nether Portal is another option, but I'd rather secure the Nether passage before I turn it into an outpost connection.

    The surface is up [/SNARK]

p.s. If you've ever built a compass, you can use one by checking the list of "blocks made" to orient yourself.

If that's a mod feature, wouldn't be able to. And compasses are for sissies when exploring 2.5km from spawn! Real men enter caves with no swords, no armor, and barely more than a stack of torches!

Found my way back, anyways, and also made the Nether "Highway". It's crummy, and I wouldn't ever ask more than two people to use it (either way) at one time, but it gets the job done of "Point A" to "Point B" movement without a Ghast legion chasing you. And all it took was 1.33 chests of Cobble.
  5. It's a latent part of the game. Just check the stats screen. The compass icon there is fully functional.
  6. Started Minecraft. took off in a random direction. Found a snow covered ravine that had iron and coal all waiting in its walls for me.

Made a home out of the cliff wall. Made ladders and was finishing up the walls for it so no mobs can get me.

    Fell off.

    Died.

    couldnt find my home again.

    Deleted that world.

    Am sad.
  7. Firefly17 A Living Punchline

Started a new world where I'm trying to get the 'kilometre by cart' achievement. Quite nicely built my house near a ravine that leads into a massive cave system and an abandoned mineshaft, so I've gotten most the iron I need. Just gotta build a nice suspended railway to view the scenery from on my journey.
  8. Hitamaru Exalted of the Sun

I am currently building a multi level factory, which I will then fill with machinery.(I am using technic mod pack) I will then wall off and convert the surrounding areas into farms, and then start my little village, so I can have peasants to lord over. :)
  9. I've been thinking that next time I find a town I might expand it and then create a wall, turning it into a small fortress.
  10. Richardson Not a Chicken

Working on the foundation sections of a three-piece megatower rising up out of a mountain. Depending on how things go, I'll eventually expand it even further, somehow.
  11. Firefly17 A Living Punchline

Also starting a new world, but with the SB-mod set up. Been a while since I've played with any of the mods in it and I want to try out Railcraft.
  12. Got redpower, thaumcraft and equalent exchange installed. Going to see what kind of thing i can come up with...
  13. Ryan Ghetto Rocket Scientist

Been working on a massive railway to move players hundreds of blocks to another biome :)

Quick question: How do you update a multiplayer server? Aim2Game is hosting ours
  14. mkire Lee-ko is adorable

I'm running the mobpack that's been made for feed the beast (EE/buildcraft/IC2/RP2/forestry) and i spawned on a huge jungle island with nothing around, though it does have multiple volcanoes. I built a nice tower out of wood and when exploring the cave system outside my doorstep. two hours later i find my way out whit my pack full of stuff. I make a mining shaft straight down in one corner of my home and go looking for diamonds. two more hours later and i have a shit-ton of stuff, but not a single diamond and my lvl 2 divining rod hasn't pointed one out to me.

I decide to look up Industrial Diamonds and discover that IC2 actually turns them into regular diamonds, but i need a macerator and a compressor, along with a power generator to make them. Not to mention the huge amount of coal for one of them.

So i put my home in order, write down where my home's co-ordinates are and build a boat. there is nothing for at least two KM besides water and the occasional tiny island. it was becoming night when i found land, so i made a little bunker and waited the night out. I'm going to pray i find rubber trees.

edit: I just died from creeper ambush. I'll have to mount another expedition.
  15. Got minecraft on Xbox live...and I'm lucky I set the world to peacefull, cause I did not find 1 Coal Deposit before the first night. I eventually did, but it still doesn't create torches, I need 'Charcoal', I think I can get it by putting coal and some wood in the furnace, someone help me on that? this first world is a 'What can I do, and how can I do it' thing before going to a monster/player infested world.
  16. Gear Set Moon to Ramming Speed!

Really? You can't put a piece of coal on top of a stick and get 4 torches?

Huh, anyway, you get coal by baking the wood cubes you get from trees (Not planks or sticks or other wood based items) in a furnace.

You put a piece of charcoal on top of a stick in the crafting space in your inventory, or the crafting space of a crafting table to get 4 torches.
  17. The X-Box Minecraft's crafting is streamlined, by taking what resources you have, and combining them into stuff for you, and having those things on several lists seperated by categories of what use the said items have...

you then select what you want, and it crafts it, if you have enough resources for it.
  18. <<ERROR>> Shadow Cabal Apathite

Ouch. You have my condolences :(.
  19. yeah... I thought I could get by with what I learned from X's Minecraft series....yeah, no... wish me luck!
  20. Random832 The Coolest

You can actually select between the two torch recipes on the xbox, though.
  21. I did not know that.
  22. elemenster your soul has tells

In my first no tech mod world in a while I've been rading the nether and other worlds (mystcraft) for a while now and I FINALY found some damn diamonnds! now to make the swords I wanted and to find some crystals so I can bring my wolfswarm with me into other worlds:testsmilie:

Wow, I haven't played Minecraft in a while! Time to change that, I suppose. Between my summer job and those romance novels I mentioned I haven't had much time to play Minecraft, but recently (the past week) I've been getting back into it quite a bit.

I built a LOT after my last post. I finished the first floor of the Citadel and have half of the second up, but I also focused a lot on other projects, like extending my Red Brick Road (tm) network. It begins at both my back door close to my farm and at my front door, and while I built a bridge over the bay I live next to for the back road, in the front I simply curved around the inlet bay. Both roads link up by the underground entrance to the Citadel. I then flattened out quite a bit of already mostly-flat grassland and built roads stretching off into the distance, one giant stripe heading off forever. Occasionally I built branch off roads, such as one BIG one heading to the official front of the Citadel, as well as one heading off into nowhere for now. Ah well; I can build stuff over there later, but now I have my beautiful road network to guide the way.:D

Oh yeah, I built a humongous animal pen for animals! It took me a very long time to gather even a few chickens, pigs, sheep, and cows, but now I am well-stocked, and the wheat from my farm now has a good use for animal breeding. I have to keep their numbers down though; the animal AI is smarter than I remember, and even without wheat in your hand they will cluster around the gate to try to escape. The animals were trying to jump over my fence so much I had to make the fence two fence posts high, just to stop them!

Next to the animal farm I built a square house with all glass walls and stuff, and then began to dig straight down. Cue on giant vertical shaft later, and I now have another nexi for more mining! I like mining...ran into a lava lake directly underneath me though, so I can't go all the way to bedrock, alas.

Oh yeah, something I forgot to mention. On the land where I built my plateau for the Citadel there is a huge hole punched into the ground, a giant shaft which oddly enough, provided me with another entrance to the mining system! I've been exploring the network there the past few days and I found a god-awful huge ravine, like five ravines all haphazardly plugged together! Obviously, I put it on Peaceful and began establishing my patented Mining Network (tm). It's simple, really; I dig a two wide walkway going all the way around the perimeter of the ravine (all of it), build a staircase going down to the bottom of the ravine, then underneath the walkway I have...dig out another walkway following the first. Rinse and repeat, plus throw in a few bridges for the wider chasms. I've spent the past three days (cumulatively speaking) digging out the ravine and sculpting it to suit my needs; now the bottom is perfectly flat and all of the random detritus at the bottom is gone. Now for mining!

...I love Minecraft so frickin' much. :)

Haven't played for a bit, but I'm still on the "develop Library" stage. It's taking a LOT of material, for rather obvious reasons (3 stacks of books a floor / average + 2 Floors + 9 Reed = 1 Shelf = 27 stacks of reed to finish). When I'm not doing that, I'm doing odd random projects that hit me on a whim (for example, improving upon the little watch tower inside my original garrison so that it has a second area for storage and shelter). I've also been trying to make myself a suit of Protection III / Protection II Iron Armor just for fun, the thought of using it later being particularly appealing.

Beyond this I'm mostly just exploring. I plan - once I finish the Library, lighting the town, and building said Desert-town - to make some more branches to my Nether Tunnel, as well as an improved stairway (versus the convoluted one-wide mess it is now). That would actually, probably, save me a lot of cobble when it's finished (since all the twists and turns eat up a bunch of resources), just that it's also annoying since it means opening up to being shot at by Ghasts while standing a few dozen blocks above either open ground or lava.
