Starting a couple hours ago, my keyboard has started 'linking' keys together, and despite multiple internet searches and various rollbacks and updates, I'm still no closer to a solution than I was at the start. When I say 'linking' I mean that every couple seconds, random alphabet keys will produce their output and the output of a numerical key- and that numerical key will produce both outputs as well. For instance, as I type this, R begins to produce R5. 5 produces R5 as well. U produces U6, and 6 produces U6. t produces - and T produces _. This happens intermittently, and I haven't been able to track it down to a specific program source. I'm in the middle of a virus scan that I hope will resolve it, but I'd like to know if SB has any insight on the matter.
Are you on a laptop or a desktop computer? What kind of keyboard do you have? What other USB devices do you have? or, if your keyboard is not USB (probable if a laptop), what mouse do you have? Have you tried a different keyboard?
tested the keyboard on another comp- same issue. Logitech unified mouse/kb combo. It's like 3 years old, so just old. gonna get a new one, should solve problem. Manual reset of the kb doesn't work.
Have you checked, if there's a cat walking on the keyboard? Usually my erratic letters can be traced to Twilight, and her paws.
I've had a very similar problem with an old (and very cheap) microsoft media keyboard, caused by debris buildup on the key contacts. If you feel comfortable doing it (and have the tools), you can open the keyboard up, carefully (CAREFULLY!) separate the plastic membrane layers, clean the upper and lower contact points for each key using a wet tissue, dry them (using either a tissue or microfibre cloth), and then reassemble. If you have an air compressor or some canned air, it might also help to give the layers a good blast to dislodge any debris that could be causing short-circuiting. Of course, this only works on keyboards with membrane layers, not boards with mechanical switches.
You either have debris built up under the keyboard (probably hair), or someone spilled water on it and damaged it.
