don't die. I've never played it before either, so that's the best I've got.

    Radaic, Dwarf Paladin

Okay. I'll get it downloaded and set up tomorrow. :) Thanks.
  3. I'll go ahead and re-download it tomorrow evening when I get back home.

Let's start with DDO and move on after it bogs down/gets boring whatever. A lot of these FtPs lose their shininess really quickly.

I'm interested in the Mechwarrior FtP but it's not out yet as far as I know.
  5. DogBoy Keymaster

    Server: Thelanis
    Talbain, human wizard
  6. Oh, an online Mechwarrior game? I need to investigate this.

Edit: Oh wait, this is the same Mechwarrior as the one that got announced way back and went into legal limbo?

the controls are a bit wonky-- overly sensitive, too. But nothing that can't be gotten used to. I'm chillin' in the first village.
  8. DogBoy Keymaster

I'm waiting for everyone else and farming store points.

Do you guys think we should make a seperate thread for this?
  9. Welp, sometime during the updating process my desktop's graphics card seems to have ceased to exist. It no longer functions and no longer exists in the device manager :(

Further poking is needed before I can figure out what happened.
  10. DogBoy Keymaster

    :( sad sad sad.

Sorry to hear that man. :( Got hung up at work today. Will grab AVG and begin download tomorrow.

It might be, but it's going into (closed) Beta soon. I'm signed up for email updates but I haven't gotten into the beta yet. sigh.

    Heh, I haven't even dl'd it yet.
  13. Gonna try poking around on the internets for advice first, if that doesn't work I'm going to, once again *sigh*, purge the computer and reinstall windows, hopefully updating drivers and bringing it back. If that doesn't work I'm guessing hardware fault and I probably need a new card.

So I might just show up and bother you guys during a game on vent if this doesn't get sorted soon :p

bleh, I really want my graphics back now that I know a Mechwarrior game is coming. I may be an absolutely shitty player at any sort of PvP game you name but I love me some Mechwarrior. Also my sister will straight up murder me if I don't get her WoW back soon :p

Yeah, I like Btech a lot too. I'm hoping there's a PvE mode for it.

Looks like DDO is like a 6GB download, so I started it and am leaving it overnight.

There's a brief tutorial dungeon that it looks like everyone will need to get through before we can start grouping together. I'm basically just at the entrance of that.

Okay finally got it downloaded and installed. AFter the first 6 GB download, it wanted to download multiple more gigabytes of updates, so I left it another day.

What classes are people making? Mag is Paladin, DB is Wizard.
  17. SirBee Gettin' Eldritch With It

I'll be making a Barbarian, however I'll have to make some space after I'm done with the latest Visual Studios install
  18. blackseven Registered User

Guess I'll go with a divine caster type. I haven't even started yet, heh.
  19. SirBee Gettin' Eldritch With It

You know its kinda funny how everyone complains that 4e is WoW like (whatever that means) and yet there is no 4e MMO
  20. blackseven Registered User

Whoa, I thought DDO was 4E based. I never played it, so...

The facebook D&D game is sorta 4E like. Stretching though.
  21. Nah, DDO is 3e Eberron.

Anyway before my graphics card went on strike I wasn't sure what I would play. I was thinking either human fighter or human sorcerer(Rhovan lives again!). I don't know how long it's going to be before I fix this though.
  22. Aratech Expendable Clone Assassin

Having issues with the download, keeps cutting out midway through. Going to try again tomorrow.

Lore wise, I'm unfamiliar with Eberron. Can anyone fill me in, aside from the fact that its steampunkish?
  23. I'm no expert and I know even less about DDO specifically but basically the main part of the setting is this continent called Khorvaire. It was once united in a kingdom but split into half a dozen or so successor states that fought each other for 100 years for the crown. They eventually signed a peace treaty after one of the states just blew up. No one really knows why it happened but it's called the Mournlands now.

DDO takes place away from Khorvaire though, on the mostly unexplored continent of Xen'drik. There is a single trade city called Stormreach that I'm pretty sure serves as the center of the game.

Anyway, Eberron has steampunk elements although it's more magicpunk than steam. While something like Forgotten Realms gets most of it's inspiration from Tolkien type fantasy, Eberron gets inspiration from lots of pulp adventure stories. The campaign guide even lists movies like Indiana Jones and the Mummy as things that inspire the tone. There are trains (lightning rails) in the setting specifically because fighting on the back of a moving train is awesome and makes for a really cool action scene.

The gods are pretty much silent, clerics have power but they argue about where it actually comes from. Alignment is more flexible and races aren't divided into "always lawful good" and "always chaotic evil". The planet also has a dozen moons and I'm pretty sure there are rings as well. Probably makes for a busy night sky.

In addition to the big nations that compose Khorvaire there are also the Dragonmarked Houses. They're sort of like multinational corporations or guilds that each have a specialty, House Cannith builds things while House Jorasco are healers. You get in to one of these houses by being born with a mark called a Dragonmark, the mark confers awesomeness on you that lines up with one of the Houses. House Cannith has the Mark of Making and House Tharashk has the Mark of Finding. Certain marks only show up on certain races though, House Jorasco is all halflings.

Now, while magic is somewhat more integrated into society in Eberron, there isn't all that much really high level magic going on. Most characters aren't all that high level in the first place, a bit of googling tells me that the big scary Lord of Blades guy is only level 12, and he's kind of a big deal. I think the planes and other continents are where people are supposed to go for high level adventuring with superhuge monsters and demons and stuff.

Anyway, Eberron is probably my favorite published setting for D&D and I've always wished I could get a chance to play/run it. How much of this applies to DDO I have no idea though.
  24. Welp, I've replaced my graphics card and this one seems to work so that's good. The only problem is that now I'm getting this blurry, ghost effect on everything on the screen. It's like there's a watermark of an image offset a couple pixels from the original. Bleh, at least it works now.
  25. MagnifloriousPh ^^vvba select start

Have you tried looking at the screen with 3D glasses?
