Well, after nine months of the most ridiculously extended work-up training period ever, I'm flying out to Afghanistan. Plane leaves tomorrow, and I should be in Kandahar for the 10th. It's good to finally be going. No idea what connectivity is like on KAF, but I'll drop a few lines when I can, though I don't plan to keep a regular journal going. Back in September.
Well, i've been there and in Kandahar its pretty nice. The people are generally nice and there are some great views. What will you be doing overthere? Stay safe and stay out of the sun in the summer.
I *am* the Sergeant. Unfortunately my Corporal is a tiny asian girl of less than five feet and maybe 80 pounds who isn't likely to be able to jump into a burning LAV to pull me from certain death. I'll just try to avoid that situation ever arising.
So is the rest of your unit also of the a-typical soldier material or just the Corp? And to speak with the rest, good luck and try not to get killed.
Stay safe IXJac. Put what you learned in the Artic to good use Though seems like things are quiet for the moment and with luck we'll finally be getting some additional help (know US Marines are being sent to the army and Poland is lending us some copters).
