Can the factory identify the material you put into it's ore processor by it's own?

The factory doesn't get any bonus from the central computer, is this intended?

    Would this action work?
Manpower action (3) - on duty to prevent and repair damage from dust storm.
  2. SakSak Unbound

To a degree. But like the central computer, it's not intelligent. Unknown material compositions will yield nothing of their properties, only identified elements contained.

Yes; the factory is fiendishly complex and already well optimized. A better control unit cannot make the physical components move faster.

    Yes.

    Manufacturing & Building Action(1 slots):
    [ ] Exo-skeleton Constructors (1 manpower, 1 exo under repairs)
-infrastructural work - atmospheric sealing of underground outpost, install airlocks, ready it for the life support unit.

    [ ]Factory (1 manpower)

-Replacement Parts to Chemical Lab Kit, 15 of 40 (+20 factory, continue, throw in the shards of broken glass from destroyed parts, - card penalty)
-assist in Stig's current project by producing parts he needs (queued)

    Mining Action (2 slots):
    [ ] D&D Vehicles (1 manpower, 1 damaged) (off)
    [ ] Mining Bot Team (+8) (1 Manpower) (1/10 bot destroyed) +5 from OS-AI, ++ from card bonus
, for what is henceforth known as Project Underground Outpost, Stage 2 :"dig a fairly long tunnel sideways, long enough to put 2 other sideways tunnels and 4 mid sized caverns on it's sides, and a very large cavern on it's end."

    (33 + 15 +8 +20 (Mining!) -5 Stig = 71)

Project Underground Outpost, Stage 2, 71 of 400.

Continue with bots only, keep stacking the new material into a separate pile outside.

    Engineering Actions (0 slots):
    +1 hero slot
Build an oxygen scrubber\water recycler unit indended for use as underground outpost's life support.

It has to have enough capacity for 50 people (want some spare), good ventilation (minimize risk of oxygen\argon atmosphere) and ability to harvest external atmosphere for CO2 and argon.
Use the central computer for +30 bonus. Use advanced spare parts for +10.

Maintenance & Repair Actions (1 slot):
[ ] Maintenance and Damage Control Bay (1 manpower)
    fix the exoskeleton

    33+ 5 = 38 of 100
Continue, throw in basic spare parts for +10 again

    Other Actions
Manpower action (3) - on duty to prevent and repair damage from dust storm.
  4. Need to allocate the -manufacturing card penalty to something. I'd recommend the replacement chemical lab parts since the storm makes the atmospheric sealing urgent. Are we just blocking off the entrance or installing an actual airlock?

If we're only using the bots then remove "use both slots for digging" and the D&D Vehicles. Do you think there's a significant chance that the new material we hit indicates lava nearby?

So we're building an oxygen scrubber, oxygen extractor, argon extractor, water recycler and ventilation infrastructure in a single action? Seems a bit much.

I'd leave out the previous rolls and just include the progress (38 of 100). We've also got the spare parts listed twice.
By my count we have 4 people free not 3 (assuming D&D Vehicle not in use).
  5. Marduk Recruitin for RP on skype

Doesn't gm allocate these penalties randomly?
The slot stays, it's just not used, and the both slots part was inthe project's description.

The old vents indicate that there was lava around here at some point, but if it's now, it's unlikely it's so shallow.
Oxygen scrubber already makes oxygen out of carbon dioxide, which is in atmosphere, no need for oxygen extractor. A filtering unit that separates atmospheric gases is also one thing. There was a similar unit in starship construction, so it should go. A good chunk of ventilation infrastructure is done by the exoskeleton.
The previous rolls have bonuses in them. And the spare parts are listed twice because once they are in project beginning text, and then in project continuation orders.
    by the exoskeleton.
You sure? Didn't you forget 1 for life support? We have 8 awake + Stig.
  6. Stig's penalty is random but there's also a -manufacturing penalty from the psychology card that I think we're meant to allocate.
Edit: We need to allocate it, see below
The project was the underground complex, what equipment we're allocating to it this turn is separate. If we include both slots in the project description then the gm may interpret that as actually using both slots this turn.
True. We'd also have probably gotten a warning about the temperature rising, and the bots underground sonar/gpr should detect something before breaking through.
The task you've written says to extract oxygen and argon directly from the atmosphere and there's no oxygen in it. Can you reword it to be more clear? I'd rather not have Stig take the request literally.
    Yep, I forgot life support.
  7. Marduk Recruitin for RP on skype

    Ok, fixed up the descriptions.
  8. I'd mention whether we're installing an airlock or just sealing it off.
    Where's the +10 bonus from?
  9. Marduk Recruitin for RP on skype

    Done.
Factory bonus. With processing. Though it should be +20 if we throw in the glass shards.
  10. I'd mention the source to distinguish it from using spare parts.

Edit: Action list looks fine now as far as I can tell.
Edit2: Using spare parts appears twice in exoskeleton repair, we can only do that once per action per turn. Rest is ok.
  11. SakSak Unbound

I believe you are forgetting one person from your calculations.

Namely, that your Life Support system on the ship keeps one person busy.

Also, thank you adapting to new standard.

For shorter form, please use something close to the following example :

The above tellms me quickly and efficiently where the slots are used and where they come from, what you want done with them this turn, and what selectible and inherent modifiers apply to the project.
  12. Marduk Recruitin for RP on skype

    Me?
    It's 7+1(life support) +1 (hero).

    Factory+bots+repair bay+exoskeleton=4.
    7-4=3 for manpower action
  13. SakSak Unbound

Ah, so it was. My bad. Mixed a number 2 with a number 1 and got the wrong result.

This is partly why I want to reduce my own workload in regards to this game. I have too many numbers already to keep track of. And so, mistakes occur. Mistakes that do not help you, or reflect favourably on me :D
  14. Marduk Recruitin for RP on skype

I know, too many numbers to track of are bad. I learned it when i GMed a Fallout empire building game with 6 different players, one faction per.
  15. SakSak Unbound

I saw that - one of the lurkers.

    Let me just say... ouch.
  16. I've converted the action list to the shorter format. Anyone see any errors compared to the original?

Ahh, slow going indeed. Turns out that despite the best wishes of the crew, the ground is filled with tiny, tiny cracks that leak air. For a normal bunker or structural reinforcement, that's not much of a problem. But when the life and limb of everyone living in those areas depend upon perfect atmospheric seals, it's just not good enough.
The Constructors begin melting the rock around the cracks with welding torches, and applying other on-the-spot methods of making the rocky walls, ceiling and ground hold and atmosphere.
They get no where close to being able to create and install airlock systems into the technical shaft, and the main entrance shaft.

    (85+20 -10 = 95)
WIth access to similar glass parts than those it needs to build, the process is significantly faster. It doesn't take too long for all the broken petri-dishes, beakers, coolers, distillation colums and so forth to come out, one by one.

For the last two weeks, the factory unit churns out precision parts and equipment not in the maintenance supplies, for Stig to use.

    Mining Action (2 slots):
    [ ] D&D Vehicles (1 manpower, 1 damaged): Not in use
[ ] Mining Bot Team (+8) (1 manpower) (1/10 bot missing): Continue Project Underground Outpost, Stage 2, 71 of 400. +5 OS-AI, +20 Psych card: Need to be mining.
    (68 +5+20+8 -5 Stig= 96) Crit Success.

With the bot controller able to sit in a comfortable chair, while using a lightweight OS to run the actual interface program, the bot's productivity picks up noticeably. The fact that the larger drilling vehicle is not blocking the way (though not transporting materials outside either), also allows the bots to work to their fullest potential. The harder material is a hinder to them as well, but they work through it admirably. Significant progress is made, along with all the tunnels specified, a medium-sized cavern of 600 square meters with a height of 6 meters has been dug out; sufficient to easily accomodate another Factory Kit or something smaller with room to spare.

[ ] Hero: Build an oxygen scrubber\water recycler unit intended for use as underground outpost's life support. +30 central computer, +10 use advanced spare parts.
It has to have enough capacity for 50 people (want some spare), good ventilation (minimize risk of oxygen\argon atmosphere) and ability to harvest external atmosphere for CO2 and argon.

(-20: Engineering? This is standard Manufacturing and not a prototype in any regard. But allowed, this once.)

    (50+30+10 +8= 63) Success

Surprisingly enough, despite Stig being more familiar with more basic machines and this project being nowhere near prototyping, he managed it with the help of factory-produced parts and supplies brought from Earth, construct a standard blueprint-based core of a liofe-support unit: Oxygen scrubber, a gravity-based atmospheric filter with an intake/exhaust pipe to the outside, and your basic water purifier along with a few industrial scale fans. He places most of it next to the Colony Computer, while the water purifier goes to the third, only recently dug, chamber.
And he delivers, according to specs. Though apparently, Stig mistook instructions to 'make sure the horrible smell of sulfur compounds isn't transmitted inside' as a request to put Wunderbaum air refreshers all over the recycling unit exhaust pipes. Once you'll turn this on, expect the refined smells of Vanilla and Pine to be everywhere.
Oh, and the unit requires 7 MW of electricity to run, along with someone acting as a technician.

Maintenance & Repair Actions (1 slot):
[ ] Maintenance and Damage Control Bay (1 manpower) : Continue fixing constructor exo-skeleton, 38 of 100. +10 use basic spare parts.
(0.2 units of Basic parts consumed)
    (15+10 = 25)
Unfortunately, the storm is making a mess of everything, including the cargo bays opened from one side to outside air. This has a significant hindering effect on the repairs of the smaller components. Still, work continues.

    Other Actions
[ ] Manpower action (3 manpower): On duty to prevent and repair damage from dust storm.
    (25 -30 + 3*2 = 1) Crit Fail
Put simply, it's a nightmare. The dust is unlike anything anyone has ever before had to deal with, and its hurled around by winds probably reaching the lower scale hurricanes. Nothing effective is done, and a lot of parts are either lost ot the ground or replaced on machines - only to be taken out a day later in horrible condition.
    -0.2 units of basic supplies
    -0.15 units of advanced supplies

Wear And Tear (Storm in effect)
    (87) The sotrm is throwing dust and sand-like particles everywhere, but thankfully that's all it appears to be doing so far. With your (crash)landed vessel right next to the underground tunnel and most of other tasks taking place in the cargo bays, your effective work rate is not too badly affected. Dust piles up everywhere and makes a mess of things, visibility outside is down to zero, but no equipment breaks.

We are a turn behind schedule now, the damned cave sealing roll is the culprit.

How much of the newly dug cave would a chemistry lab and sludge compressor take?

Can we send Stig to dustproof vulnerable stuff as an engineering or maintenance action?

How much points would a decent quality cave housing unit take the factory to produce?

Can a manpower action be used as an extra slot for outpost atmospheric sealing?

"Engineering actions deal with innovation, design and prototyping: when you need specialized equipment, need to modify an existing design or object"

    ...yes.

Depends radically upon the design and materials.
Use an engineering action to design one to your specs, or give a list of specs and find if cavern hab-units fitting those criteria are in the database.

    ...
    yes.
  23. Marduk Recruitin for RP on skype

Use what we have available (ores, atmosphere), fit into one of these mid sized caverns, house 40 people. Anything like it in database?
  24. Garmilator Crusade Master

Focus should be expanding or existing production of air/water/life-support.
So we can increase our active Manpower and allow far faster production.
We could possible at-least wake up 4 more crew-members.

Resources should not be spent on exploring dead planet.
  25. Marduk Recruitin for RP on skype

Already doing that, need to seal the cavern system before turning on life support, otherwise it's a waste.
We cannot, limited life support. Need working oxygen and water system in caves first.
Well, we do have to get those exotic elements from somewhere.
