  1. firefossil I have charts. Lots of charts.

There is also the I Did What I Had to Do approach. Humans can exist just fine in Equestria... right up until Discord/Windigos/assorted other threats get supercharged and gank everyone. It'd be a very cruel WH40K style twist.
  2. Wakka Drive Systems

We certainly aren't the people we were as children or teens, though I'd argue that a massive behavioral change does entail a loss of self. Perhaps not from the perspective of whatever emerges, but certainly from the perspective of everyone else. The incident of Phineas Gage being an example. Arguably the same person from his own perspective, a different person after his injury from an outside one. I suppose it depends on whether or not you consider external factors as part of personhood.

It's more of how much loss of self is acceptable. It's difficult to draw an exact line of "This much and no further", but I can say for damn sure I believe that TCB level is wayyyyyy over the line.
  3. cpj1227 Shadow Cabal Terror Unit

That is the story that started all of this crap? I kind of expected more from something that inspired legions and legions of spinoffs. I'm not even talking about the plot either, I'm talking in the sense of basic writing quality. It's just so poorly-written.
  4. Cody Fett Transitional Phrase Nut

Many MLP fics that had the biggest influence on the fandom similarly have reputations as being poorly written. Their main sticking point is that, to be blunt, they were there first. One of the exceptions to this is Fallout: Equestria, though that is up for debate.
  5. firefossil I have charts. Lots of charts.

This is true for basically any fanfic fandom.

See the Hill of Swords fic, which along with Darth's thread got the whole ZnT thing going, which has spawned a whole range of fics and was the dominant meta-thing in creative prior to MLP's invasion. However, many people dislike Hill of Swords because it followed the Stations of Canon, used Shirou post-canon but pre-Archer whose characterization many people found implausible and/or distasteful, continued to string along the harem subplot, all sensible reasons, albeit not on the same level as just plain bad writing.

My biggest complaint about TCB stories (aside from the rampant misanthropy) can be summed up in one sentence:

Where have all the Lyra's gone?
  7. Generalissimo Generalissimo of SpaceBattles

Lyra secretly commands the Human Liberation Front.
The allegedly terrorist anti-pony faction is lead by an Equestrian.
Lyra knows ponies remain a threat to her beloved mankind.

She's cracked, bonkers, looney, nuttier than squirrel shit. I've read some of her "work" and plenty of her "comments" on others stories and the like and I honestly can't decide whether or not she's legitimately an irredeemably twisted person or... a very elaborate troll. I'm leaning more towards the later as I just can't fathom someone with such a vilely misanthropic and cynical outlook.

Man, since this thread popped up, I've poked my nose into some of this TCB stuff and... I'm deeply sickened. Like, seriously. I'm really surprised by... all of this. Like, I knew about TCB... vaguely. I mean, I'd heard of it from EQD, didn't really look into it much. I got the gist of it and realized it wasn't my cup of tea and it never really bothered me until now. But then... this thread popped up and its message was really laid out for me and I thought "Wait... what the shit? This is a thing?" and started digging and the more I read the sicker it made me. Maybe I've been naive but... are there really so many people out there who believe humanity is so evil and terrible and would throw away everything that makes them who they are for some pastel colored "utopia" under an absolute monarch whose will and means are never questioned? Among other things.

I'm just having a difficult time wrapping my head around the fact that there are people like Chatoyance out there. People who really believe such... drivel. It really makes me sad. Honestly. I feel for them. My God, this thing, this TCB thing, I think it may actually be ruining Ponies for me. How the hell do you take something as cute and fun as MLP:FIM and use it to justify Xenocide? How?

Gah, I'm sorry for going off on a rant, I needed to vent. This thing has just really struck a serious nerve with me.
  13. cpj1227 Shadow Cabal Terror Unit

Think? Sir, I know that Chatoyance is crazy. Not just crazy - she's nuts, insane, bonzo, not in possession of her faculties, three fries short of a Happy Meal... absolutely wacko.
  14. Hurin r u haebing porblems?

As cpj pointed out to me in a PM, she's been at this kind of shit for years before MLP came out, it's just her latest vessel for it. 2007 I believe.

I would honestly rather live in the IoM than have this happen to me.
  15. Darth Sonic The Purple Muse!

Oh? I need to hear this!
  16. firefossil I have charts. Lots of charts.

That's because the statement "I am living" is still applicable in IoM, if low probability. In TCB, there is no "I" anymore.

Though technically, I'd argue that the product of the CBs is basically a "child" where one parent is the human (the aspects of your that are sufficiently equestrian as to not be erased) and the other parent is the serum (which fills in the parts which are erased). The choice isn't convert or die, so much as it is die with no descendants, or die with a descendant that carries some aspects but not others from you.
  17. Go to encyclopedia dramatica and search jennifer diane reitz (chatoyance's real name) wow, just wow.
  18. Restless Coyote Outer Harmony Bound

This, ooooh, this. This sated some of my rage and restored a little bit of my faith in the fandom and whatnot. Thank you for sharing that. Truly.

Yeah... apparently "she" has an Encyclopedia Dramatica article and this depravity really isn't anything new.

I completely agree, as bleak as it is... Better to die as cannon fodder for your very species than live lobotomized in a body not your own in some sort of faux utopia.

I guess I've always been a HFY kind of guy. I just love our species. For all the bad, there is tremendous good. For every shadow, a shining light and, through our struggles, we are defined and made great. There really isn't anything else like us and I feel deeply that we have so much more to learn, to achieve, to conquer and build. We haven't even left the cradle yet, there's so much more for humanity, so much more. Maybe I'm just a dreamer, but it wouldn't hurt if more people thought that way.

Hehe, I see what you did thar. And it made me grin like a fool :testsmilie:
  21. So yeah. anyone wanna make a fic in blaze's universe? Here's an idea: When Equestria appears on earth, after the twilights conversion speech(Which the humans call complete bullshit on), everything goes WRONG. the barrier stops, the earth itself seems to be adapting by taking the magic from equestria to restore itself, leaving the entire realm without any form of magic, equestria's ecosystem, geography, physics, and animals, slowly becoming that of earth's
  22. firefossil I have charts. Lots of charts.

Frankly, I see the American Dream as basically two things:
    1. Strive to be better than those who became before you.
    2. Provide for those who come after you such that they can exceed even that.
Or in simple terms a contract between generations to seek progress and enlightenment. It in no way insults and denigrates prior generations for being "less", nor does it forget them and how they established the foundation for those that followed. I see transhumanism as pretty much the ultimate extension of the American Dream.

I've never really gotten why people view eugenics as intrinsically bad. Anything applied in a way that is neither consensual nor scientific is gonna come out bad. To me, eugenics has the same goal as the American Dream and transhumanism, that of trying to better subsequent generations. And like those, it in no way denigrates the prior generations for reaching less lofty heights, because those generations were never given the same resources and opportunities and it knows it.

I kinda went off topic there...
  23. Oh look that author is a "she". And famously nutty one.

Why do we even waste energy debating products of his literary diarrhea.
