So has anyone ever written a reconstruction?

Take away the part about having no other choice but transform or die, take half of what Chatoyance has said about what the transformation does at face value, and you've got the makings of a halfway decent framework for stories about transhumanism.

The usual TCB people say that humanity would never choose to improve itself. The deconstructionists say that there is nothing to improve, that any change is evil. Both hold that no-one, fully informed and not facing a choice between it and death, would ever choose to change their own nature. Reject it all as false.

Equestria's policy is to respect and defend everyone's right to choose their own path. They will use force both against grpups such as the HLF and holdout governments that seek to deny people the option, and the PER that seeks to force the change on people.

There is no barrier expansion and no immediate or long-term danger - the only thing to convince people to accept the change is marketing.

That's actually the original TCB verse (Blaze version, not chatty), only their is no PER, it was still so OOC for all canon pony characters.

Actually, she came from a communist country whose government literally took all of her families stuff because "communism". So she has a pretty solid Freudian excuse for her behavior. Now stop talking about politics in a pony thread seriously.

She does have the lovecraftian horror down pretty solidly. Let's see what themes her story features:
1. "we're all weak flawed dust motes with delusions of grandeur doomed to die in a puddle of our own waste".
2. "we're gonna get eradicated by a fundamentally alien force for reasons we can't grasp".
3. "those assimilated by the alien force will be mindraped into being like them, and when we're mindraped, we'll agree with them as well".
Lovecraftian horror is basically existential horror mixed with transformation horror, and that is pretty much the TCB stories in a nutshell.

There's also the uncomfortably severe racism, which TCB has, albeit for all races equally.

Lovecroftian horror you say? Then why don't they play it straight with Cthulhutech? We already have ANE, AEE, and New Blood to draw inspiration from.

That isn't an aspect of Lovecraftian horror, it was merely one of Lovecraft's inspirations for it. The racism of the ponies towards the humans is not an aspect of Lovecraftian horror, in Lovecraftian horror, it'd be the other way around, albeit only by the protagonist, with everyone else mindlessly buying in to the glory of the TCB.

Even if my VT nomination is annulled I'll still take it as a compliment.

During or after would probably be the simplest to write. The rough idea I have is the Barrier forming, and the last thing the first ponies to exit the barrier see is a pepperpot-shaped construct shouting "A-LIEN LIFE-FORMS DE-TEC-TED E-XITING FROM UN-KNOWN E-NERGY FIELD! EX-TER-MIN-ATE!"

Someone better than I at writing could probably craft something approaching Big Finish audioplay quality out of the ponies arriving before the Davrosian revolution, though.

It doesn't help that I have a lot on my plate as it is with Darth-Sonic's worldbuilding project and after that working on the other spitefic idea I came up with way upthread for technical practice.

I have a stupid question for everyone here! What would be the strongest: the brainwashing effect of the Potion, or the absolute hate for everything un-Dalek?

Because it would be very funny to see a ponyfied Dalek remaining Dalek at its very core and starting to act as such...
