On the Skaro thing, you could actually probably play it weird, where they show up after the Davrosian revolution but not TOO much after, from the Thal's perspective. The Kaleds, ancient enemies, are suddenly gone, replaced by pepperpots that make the old ones look nice. Suddenly, it isn't a matter of winning the war anymore, but surviving. Then, all of a sudden, a third faction enters, which promises salvation, just agree to change your form and you'll be protected from those nasty Daleks...

With plans to start Converting the Daleks once they get all the Thals of course, but the Thals don't know that, just that this might be their best chance to die horribly.

"Dip" is a collection of industrial solvents that completely melt all the materials used in traditional Cel animation. It melts the paint, the cel, the ink, and the film stock.

Magnets would harm the ponies due to MLP being Flash-Animated: Wiping out the "virtual computer" inherent to their existence.

... That's sheer brilliance.

In that case, to Isolate and Contain Equestria you'd need to fast track enough satellites capable of beaming microwaves down in a complete circle around the "barrier" with bunkers containing powerful Electro-magnets to allow "ambassadors" but prevent the barrier from expanding through.

TCB basically is Shadow over Innsmouth. SoI even ends with the protagonist having accepted his inevitable transformation into a hybrid half-fish thing and looking forward to it.

Though arguably, SoI is less scary than TCB because it is “only” body horror, there is nothing in the story implying that the protagonist would lose his mind to the transformation.

And the most prolific TCB author has effectively SAID it's Lovecraft in Pastel. In one of her fits of crazy, anyway.

I thought the whole implication of Deep One hybrids was that they'd eventually be driven to wade out into the sea and join Deep One society?

Yes, but IIRC it's never explained what exactly convinces them to hit the beach — for all we know it's because their now–amphibian skin itches like crazy when it dries out. Or perhaps it's the definite chance of humans breaking out the torches and pitchforks, the hybrid form is not exactly subtle after all.

You know, I thought about a good rebuttal Canon-Equestria could give TCB-Equestria.

In some TCB stories people kill the new ponies as they head towards Equestria. Others defend them. Equestria is expanding. Graves don't move. Do the math.

Yeah, it's a crappy summary, if there's anything that's not clear feel free to ask for an explanation.

800 Year Promise

The two main characters are Wildfire, a former human earth pony, and his wife Perspicacity, a native unicorn telescope maker.

Wildfire discovers in the basement of the telescope shop a book written in English. (This is surprising, since it is implied that all human cultural artifacts were destroyed by the barrier, despite another story stating that film and vinyl records were preserved.)

As Wildfire begins the effort of translating the text, he discovers it is actually written in Middle English, and describes the first contact between Earth and Equestria, 800 years ago - from the point of view of a human of the time, who was brought to Equestria and turned into a pony. (This was not by the same means as the potion, and left his mind more or less intact)

They find that there are pages missing from the end. As they travel in search of them, they meet a pony named Ralph Vitoni (we eventually find out that he is a HLF agent that kept his human mind. More on that later.)

They eventually figure out that the book was written on dragon skin, in fact, skin taken from unborn dragons, the eggs having been stolen in a raid by diamond dogs (a fact which, if it got out, they figure would mean war between dragons and ponies). Unfortunately, they come to this conclusion while the dragon ambassador (the brother, in all likelihood, of the dragons whose skin was used for the book), Sharptooth Leatherback, is in a position to overhear. He is more reasonable than most dragons, and decides to wait until he finds out if Celestia knew before taking action. Meanwhile, Ralph leaves a letter on his doorstep strongly implying that she did know, and that Wildfire and Perspicacity are actually her agents and cannot be trusted to translate the manuscript. His goal is clearly to start a war between ponies and dragons that will eventually devastate all life in the world - as revenge for what she did to Earth.

After Ralph forces them to get the manuscript out of Sharptooth's horde, he is defeated by Sharptooth's (adopted pony) son. He asks to be able to speak to Wildfire and Perspicacity for his last words (this is allowed as a matter of honor because this is a dragon cultural tradition to allow last requests of those they defeat in battle)

We learn the points that I mentioned in the other thread: that the Dragons, Griffons, and Diamond Dogs were also from other dimensions, but didn't need to be transformed to pass the barrier. That Celestia's motivation is likely tied to the psychological effects of dealing with all of the problems Discords caused (and just coming off of that, she encountered medieval humanity).

Sharptooth decides not to go to war over the fact that she didn't deliver William (the human-turned-pony who wrote the manuscript) to be punished by the dragons - he concedes that with tensions as high as they were at the time, this would only have prompted a war that would have destroyed both species - and for what it's worth, she didn't find out about the nature of the journal until he presented it to her after he finished writing it.

Ah, so this is the story that officially assimilated The Ambassador's Son into Chatty's headcanon...
