MLP:FiM, S2E25/26, "A Canterlot Wedding"; One hour season finale!

The day of destiny has arrived. At 1300 hours Eastern Standard Time the season two finale for My Little Pony: Friendship is Magic will air on the Hub. Will the most hyped animated television episode in recent memory live up to expectations, or will it collapse on the battlefield of public opinion and flee in shameful defeat? We will find out this afternoon, but for now, we wait.

Princess Cadence is marring Twilight's brother Shining something.

Apperently has a dark secret and Twilight is interferring.

Shining Armor the never before mentioned Twilight's brother and Royal Guard Captain is marrying Princess Mio Amore Cadenza the never before mentioned pink alicorn princess with a dark secret and tiara fetish. And Hasbro has been hyping the shit out of the whole thing. Oh, and there will be an attack of the clones. And Twilight the Pinkie-operated stationary weapons platform.

I worry that Hub's overhyping of this could damage the show's reputation. But kids wont care and bronies will have to find ways to survive. Thing is, as a meme, MLP:FIM has already become indestructible. If show got canceled or turned into a really bad toy marketing for little girls cartoon; fans would continue to produce tons of quality daaaw inducing and heartwarming content.

Pretty much. I think that the fandom will continue on after the show stops. In fact, I said the same thing last August as the Fandom has actually fueled itself. The first "Bronies" were like a small planetesimal. Slowly, over a few months they drew in smaller ones and grew in size. Eventually, gravity took over and drew in more and more (including pieces from other fandoms) and is now a stable body.

Okay, I have an easier seeing how this reference flew over your head. It's a reference to Team Four Stars DBZ Abridged Series. Specifically the Krillian Own Count.

And in Spacebattles Abridged Series, we have the Exposure Owned Count.

I don't see the fandom staying fully active for very long after the show ends. If say season 3 is the last season then I expect it will start slowing down for a year or so and then enter a slow burn white dwarf phase. If nothing more comes of Gen 4 then it will probably stay that way until Gen 5 shows up a few more years down the road. We'll all scurry back to see if Gen 5 lives up to Friendship is Magic, if it does then the fandom will heat back up with more fuel for the fire. If not then it will continue it's slow burn until something good does come along.

Actually that's going to be weird. Eventually FiM is going to end and while I'd like it to last a while it is better for it to end sooner rather than linger for 10 seasons and begin to suck after the first 5. (personally I'd like to see 4 full seasons but I'd be happy if I could just get confirmation that season 3 would be a full 26 episodes, so far only 13 have been confirmed) After FiM ends what is going to happen to the franchise? Obviously it will be rebooted within a few years, it's a cash cow for Hasbro. So what happens when the next show comes along? What if it's good? What if it isn't?

Lots of questions there that I don't know the answer to. We aren't like Transformers fans who are fans of a whole franchise. We're more fans of a specific show in the franchise's run. That probably won't positively effect the fandom's longevity.

And yet, since this particular run has started you've had people go back and watch previous runs including G1 (which has some really freaky shit when it comes to villians). And now we're starting to see fanmade episodes and such made. So as long as Hasbro doesn't stop it (and other then a bit of a spat over the actual FiM Episodes posted on Youtube) we might see it stick around for a while.

I suppose, I do think that after the show ends we'll hemorrhage members though. People who still like the show but as new content slows down (and it will slow down) they'll just move on to other things. Longterm survival of the fandom as more than a tiny echo of it's present self is pretty much going to require a decent Gen 5 show.

And honestly, I don't even know how much I would like a hypothetical Gen 5 show, even if it was decent. Even a change in the art style from FiM would draw a powerful "Meh" out of me. It's odd because usually I'm not that picky about stuff.

I'm gonna take a guess and say that Shining Armor and Cadence are either fakes kinda like Dawn was in Buffy the vampire slayer, because we didn't hear anything about them one second, and the next second they appear out of nowhere.

You could say the same thing about Rarity's parents, who apparently only showed up to prove that they existed.

Cadence isn't Discord! She may, however, be Discord's daughter, though. Her products have to sell after this, remember! Therefore she can't be pure evil!
