[spoiler]Then things start getting a little creepy and Twi goes a little bit Lesson Zero at the wrong time, at the wrong place. The final chapter goes towards a tad sad place... until it reaches the end and it gets creepier[/spoiler]
It's also a kind of "take that" at Hasbro's lazy packaging art for their recolors. Honestly, I don't think the base would care quite so much if they used the background ponies for the vector recolors instead of the Mane Six
As a collector, you're right. I would much rather pick up a Twilight recolored as say, Lyra/Heartstrings than... Dewdrop Dazzle.
Magical Pony Lyrical Twilight part 8 is up. And Fate is in a rapid spiral downwards, though it remains to be seen if she has about hit rock bottom yet so the ponies can help her. Twilight has several new combat spells, and is a bit weirded out at how good she is at it. Not sure, are the variations Nanoha canon, or Twilight (and the author's) variations? Chrono has some deadpan funny lines in this part too, like during the diplomatic trip to Ponyville, "I feel like I’ve wandered into a girl’s cartoon." And [spoiler]Luna gets fed up with waiting and takes Fate in hoof.[/spoiler]
Black Rain - a My Little Pony:Friendship is Magic and Prototype crossover. Actually quite well done. Obviously, as it is a prototype crossover the fic is on the darkside.

Which makes for an interesting contrast; Celestia pursues cold revenge against Daymare Sun, while Luna embraces HOT BLOOD.
Here's a nice oneshot: For Her How does a princess deal with the loss of the most important pony in the world to her? What if all of Equestria's history since that time was the result of trying to bring that pony back? What did Celestia did (and feel) between Nightmare Moon's banishment and Luna's return. A bit sad, but with a happy ending.
