And I'd say this Gendo doesn't need a robot to fight angel to a standstill.
Refer to Master Arsia, Big Fire's Magnificent Ten, Experts of Justice, Mazinger Z characters after Imagawa gave them a makeover.

Also, nominating this Misato as Honorary Kamen Rider.

I will spoil this much; given how the backstory's differed, Gendo's focus has been on three things for the past several years since Yui's passing:

1) Developing the Evangelions

2) Preparing Tokyo-3 for a war against the Angels

3) Preparing the way for Instrumentality

For item #2, we get to see some Gundam influences in terms of Tokyo-3's defenses.

For example, Gendo's personal robot is the God Gundam.

Not Master?

That implies a few things:

1) That Gendo's NOT insane enough to name his own robot 'God'

2) That Gendo is a well-intentioned villain

3) [REDACTED]

Ok. Why not Ultimate Gundam

Because God Gundam implies, using your logic, that he is kinda narrow-minded, slightly dick-ish but ultimately a good guy.
Also, it doesn't match his uniform as good as Master.
And also, spoilered to preserve sanity, [spoiler] giving him God Gundam would imply a skintight (even more so than plugsuits) control/feedback suit and it's equipping sequence[/spoiler]. Do you really want to see Gendo Ikari in THAT?

You're assuming that it would obey the same exact rules as it does in G Gundam.

I've said enough as is; you'll just have to wait and see.

I think that Dr. Mondschein is now the go to guy in any fics done by ND fans when you need something awesome built.

I know I'm using him to that end as well. He's one of the main reasons why my evafic's Jet Alone doesn't suck. It was actually part of his job description when he was put on the project by new management "Make this robot not suck."

Slight word of warning for those of you reading the thread; although I may offer slight tidbits of what to expect in the future, I may decide to change them at any time without notice.

I'll try not to make a habit of it, but for example; though Gendo will be getting some form of powered armor, it may or may not be the God Gundam.

Also, this is now officially one of my three favorite fics (guess the others), a.k.a one of the reasons why I exclusively read Eva fics now. Oh GOD, so much insanity!

Ok, now I'm just watching this story come together with interest from my usual position at my desk. Misato's Motorcycle of Coolness +4 has indeed shown that it is possible to add a level of crazy awesome to her driving without breaking the world. I guess the next logical step would be to give her a jet-VTOL, but who would be that insane?

The same guy that got her the bike in the first place.

I have a feeling that this Gendo is Spiral Energy incarnate: If it is/would be cool, he'll do it.

In short: He's an AU version of Kamina.

So, what should we call her? Nasty!Rei? Mean!Rei? Maybe just Sergeant!Rei?

/Medical Ward, NERV-1, Tokyo-3/

“Professor Ikari.”

“Yes Fuyutsuki?”

“Lieutenant Colonel Katsuragi has just arrived with the Third Child.”

“Excellent.”

“We’ve also received official confirmation from the Defense Ministry that the JSSDF is relieved of command. The operation is now under NERV’s total control.”

“Also excellent. What’s the status of the Third Angel?”

“The N2 mine managed to slow it down, but it’s already regenerating from the damage. The MAGI are predicting it’ll be fully healed within the hour.”

“Understood. Make sure the defensive armaments are set to the Delta configuration.”

“Yes sir.”

Sergeant Rei Ayanami watched quietly as the Professor removed his hand from the ear piece. The room was spotless and without blemish, befitting a high-quality medical facility. She was not one to complain, but the presence of white – on the tiles, on the walls, on the ceiling, on the medical equipment, on the curtains – seemed a bit excessive even to her. Professor Ikari’s predominately navy blue uniform stood out like a sore thumb by comparison. “Were the JSSDF able to damage the Third Angel?”

Gendo quietly stood up from his chair, shaking his head as he did. “No damage that was permanent, or even meaningful. Fortunately, the Third Child has just arrived. I’ll be going to greet him now.”

“Understood sir,” answered Rei as the Professor departed, leaving her alone in the sterile room. The medical diagnosis she had received following the failed Activation Experiment had been relatively pleasant: on her left side, she had suffered closed fractures in the radius, ulna, femur, tibia, and ribs seven through ten. Rounding it off was some substantial bruising on the torso. On the surface, it seemed quite serious.

She would be able to pilot within a few weeks.

Still, that would put the onus of humanity’s survival on an untested Pilot: the Third Child. Shinji Ikari, the Professor’s only son.

Hmm. Is he capable?

Curiosity was an odd creature, being one that didn’t show up often for the young teenager. However, when it did, Sergeant Ayanami had a habit of becoming incredibly obstinate. As a result, it wasn’t entirely unexpected when the young girl decided to call the medical staff.

One press of the call button and a few seconds later, a feminine voice crackled over the speakers. “Can we help you Sergeant?”

“Nurse?”

“Yes ma’am?”

“Bring me my crutches.”

“…why? You’re not cleared to leave your room, and we haven’t received word from Professor Ikari, Dr. Fuyutsuki, Dr. Akagi, or-”

“I will see to it that you and your entire department are selected for Lieutenant Colonel Katsuragi’s Obstacle Course when the next review period begins.” Her cool and nigh-emotionless tone made the threat doubly serious. Then again, ANY threat involving Misato Katsuragi tended to be serious.

The nurse’s response was a foregone conclusion. “…I’ll be right down.”

d'awww. Rei's abusing her authority.

I'd motion that this Rei be called Sagara!Rei...

...But considering this fics ties with Gundam, she'd end up being called Heero!Rei...

[spoiler]...Which I find a little freaky, since not only would that make this Rei simaler to another Yui (Or Yuy... I guess...), but also because I was sort of planning for my fics Rei to pilot a Flying, "Winged" Unit-00... that would have eventually gotten Twin Buster Rifles and a Bird Mode...[/spoiler]

I'm all for calling her Sergeant Rei, mostly because I suspect she would shoot me for not referring to her by rank.

I am really liking this. It's already been a lot of fun, as well as a lot better than I would've thought an "Eva as a traditional giant mecha anime" could be.
