Yes, that is quite horrible, implying prostitution by some of the mane cast.

    Aaaaaanyways...

  4. Sorry couldn't have responded earlier. It was kinda night and I was kinda sleeping.

For those who want to read the story, spoilers!
As to why. Well among other things. "Discovering secret brutal history of Equestria" which ranks up with most harsh and morbid interpretations of Greek mythology. That's one, but ok not that decisive one. Still the god damn story opens with brutal civil war with blood and limbs flying on all sides. Then as I said "founding deaties of Equestria appear" and yeah, they are literally freaking Kronos and Gaia, well ok, they are actually bit more sadistic.

And then comes the mindrape and wanton murder. With above mentioned two real horror stories I barely skimmed few lines in opening chapters to understand just how wrong and bad they are. This, having such a nice recommendation from you guys... I got to chapter 4. Soo much mindrape.

From what I've see just that far. RD is going irrecoverably insane. (real) Twilight... I don't see any way for her not to also go completely insane or even to completely dissipate while in her "prison". Rarity knows that her (once) best friend casually and most intentionally killed her little sister in a casual show of force... and so on and on.

I honestly see no way how "after the war", even if entire main cast survives, for them not to be all PTSD ridden wrecks of a pony. Medieval war is brutal as it is, this is with magic mindrape added, and with main, incredibly monstrous villain, being their former best friend. Once again, ffs I just got to chapter 4 and I already see two or three of poor things being driven to insanity and suicide.

Edit. I have to say that writing is kinda good. Very very not what you expect in a MLP:FIM fanfcics, but still good. And its actually the writer beeing so good in presenting the horrors of melee combat and mindrape so well that that has caused this little story to make me more sad and feeling ill than the two "Worst things ever"

Someone's already remixed one of the songs. Bronies work fast.

Also, grdja: first of all, I'm sorry for flipping out like that, buuuut you kind of had it coming with that comparison. I can assure you that making it through the
breaking of Rainbow Dash and Twilight Sparkle
is worth it. I was depressed and horrified reading it too. Actually, that's not the darkest part yet, tbh. But I honestly feel like reading through those parts are totally worth it.
  6. swordomatic Crazy Cat Primarch

Well, being a reader of PMW, I can say that things get better, but anything else will just spoil it. Unless that detail's supposed to be common knowledge. Meh.

If I remember correctly, you're right in the middle of the first arc, which is usually where the shit goes to hell the hardest, at least for the first arc. Poor place to stop and deem it a grimdark shitstorm of a fanfic, don't you think?

Besides, Project Horizon's more grimdark anyway.

EDIT: Dammit, Ninja'd by Hurin. Meh, awesome avatar by the way.
  7. Hurin r u haebing porblems?

    Thank you, good sir :D
  8. It gets darker? Wow, just wow. And yeah, catching op on couple hundred pages of pony threads on this and one other forum I followed people following FO:E and Project Horizon... I may one day read FO:E, but I'm not touching the other one. Fallout Equestria... yes its a dark postapoc setting. But getting there from "present day" was a process. In PMW its literally a overnight change. I honestly had tears in corners of my eyes for 5 minutes after I clicked the little x in top right corner of my firefox window. I was just thinking too much about what I've just read and how terribly terribly were idyllic innocent lives of main characters shattered forever.

I read "A song of Ice and Fire" for first time maybe 8 years ago. And for both Ned's death and Red Wedding I was more "fuck no, he didn't do that did he? :(". But barely a tear was shed. PMW? I had to put conscious effort into not starting sobbing for 5 minutes after I stopped reading the damn thing.

Edit. I dunno. Maybe I'm just getting soft in my old days...

I nearly cried once while reading it. You haven't reached the point at which that happened yet. All I'm going to tell you is that things get better, and the way the aftermath (of the things you mentioned) is handled is superb. If you're up for it, I would recommend giving it another go.
  10. Harry Leferts That Suave Kaiju

Hurin, grdja does not like PMW. Hell, I don't like it. Can't make it much farther then grdja can before I get more then a little sickened and close it. Thing is, we're allowed to not like it. You may think it's the greatest thing since sliced bread and that's fine, we don't.

And before you say anything, you can ask Exposure about how I have a bit of an extreme reaction to mind rape/mind control.
  11. Hurin r u haebing porblems?

Well, shit. Apparently I'm being really pushy. My apologies grdja, if I came across that way. I really like the story, but to each his own. Again, my apologies.
  12. AdmiralTigercla GCFA Fleet Command

If PMW is so utterly 'horrifying' that its that much of a turn off for people and so sad that it makes grdja have to fight crying, then the story has probably done correctly what few stories can do.

    Tell the truth.

    War is HELL.

  13. I mean, ofc I read (and watched) much much more brutal, dark, violent ans squick stuff. And stomached it quite well. (OTOH for example I just said, no fuck no, to "Serbian Film" and "Human Centipede" and ignored their existence) Though even considered outside its setting and characters PMW is imho very dark and brutal. But in this context, with these characters, it gets to top the charts of emotional impact on reader, especially if you like to over-analyze whats going on and think about the details and context and consequences.

Coming as a Dresden Files reader, where writer took quite and effort to explain how bad and wrong mind magic can be, even if used "in good intentions"; or for example, Peter Watts'es stuff with biochemical and cybernetic mindrape and deconstruction of human mind and consciousness that leaves reader in depression for days/weeks... Yeah I can say I'm with those who consider mindrape among worst offenses you can see in fiction.

    And
Witnessing that first Nihilus-Rainbow Dash encounter is up there, topping the charts. And Dash later beating up Pinkie. With some other characters in some default dark and violent settings; those scenes would still carry a ton of emotional impact to reader and be very dark to read. But with MLP:FIM ponies? As I said, it hurt more than what little I've read from Cupcaes and "Rarity's...". There I was nearly laughing at absurdity of it all with a bit worry about authors minds. PMW otoh. If you know just how brutal source Greek mythology is, hell if you just know how brutal pre Disney pre Bowdlerization fairy tales are... it tricks you into accepting the morphing of the setting and spirit of the setting, and "laughing at absurdity of it all" self defense fails to boot up.
But I repeat myself and digress too much.

And so to end this unpleasant discussion.

Well, if you want a good light hearted tale, I'd suggest Progress by Andrew on this site. It revolves around Luna adapting to the modern world and all that comes of it. Very funny, sometimes fluffy, and also adorkable. On my phone sadly so I can't link it.
  15. Candid Opinion Failed the Test

PMW I thought was entertaining in the sense that eventually the main characters broke out of what was done to them, and while still being messed up, managed to keep things together to some extent, and then start turning their vicious talents on the baddies. Rainbow and Twilight however would probably never quite be able to be comfortable in each others presence though...
  16. Wetapunga God Of Ugly Things

    3D MMO RPG with ponies

I love this fandom soooo much

We thought the previous games people had started to develop were impressive....then this came out of nowhere!!

A 3D MLP:FIM Massivly multiplayer online RPG, the animations are amazing, the physics looks awesome and they have all the RPG elements you could dream of :D

This looks profesional, Hasbro would be awesome to support this

Have a look at this Pre Alpha! trailer and be amazed

  17. Yeah but Project Horizons is... like, soul crushingly grimdark.

Yeah, I can recommend the original FO:E, like you said it's dark and seeing what the war did to the Mane 6 is heartwrenching but the story itself is one of hope and it never gets so dark that you can't find your way out. PH... yeah, I won't decry the writing. It's as well written as the original. I only made it to chapter 25 before the grimdark became too much though. And honestly I was running on fumes for several chapters by that point. The parts of Fallout Equestria that would be considered its darkest and bleakest points are par for the course in PH and when PH wants to get dark well... yeah.

Now I really don't like grimdark pony fic so I'm obviously not in the best position to judge their relative merits. Fallout Equestria is probably the only one I've read that I enjoyed and even it got to me a few times (although since reading that much of PH the original is all sunshine and rainbows)

The evil faces in this episode were better than any so far, IMO.
  22. Karazor The Monkey Underground

I actually really liked the way the original Fallout:Equestria wove together Littlepip's story with the story of the war via the memory orbs. Quite well done, IMO.

Though I was depressed by how hideously, horrifically unfair the events of the backstory were to poor Rainbow Dash. She was betrayed on a massive, comprehensive scale, to the point where her memory is tarnished and she's cast as the greatest traitor to her own people...
to say nothing of the fact that her former best friend was sent to literally take her head
while Fluttershy, who actually was a massive traitor and was chiefly responsible for the vast scale of destruction left by the war, is virtually worshiped.
  23. blake0831 Providing fire support.

  24. Hurin r u haebing porblems?

That made me mad too, but not as much as the author making Fluttershy like that in the first place. She's best pony, dammit!
  25. Main thing putting me off from reading FO:E is the little thing that its... longer than War and Peace.

Edit. Since I've read FO:E wiki and know most of spoilers.
I honestly understood it that poor Fluttershy just wanted to help. And FUBARED things beyond imagination.
