That falls onto the author's own preference if they want demons to be real or not. That being said there are plenty of myths about kitsune running around and pulling the whole succubus thing. It's not much of a stretch to think one would bond to a particularly plentiful energy fountain like Naruto. Whether they actually help him out at any point or just stick around would be debatable. It's just another way for an author to stick in an OC mentor/companion/something figure in their story.
3. nununu ᛚᚭᛅᛞᚨᚠᚾᛁᚷᚼᛏᛘᚾᚱᛖ

It was anime filler but Yakumo Kurama had a demon in her. Then there was the one from the fourth(first, circa Shippuuden) movie.
4. Nitramy Umbrella That Smites Evil

It was closer to an alternate aspect of her personality (something like Dark Naruto) than a true demon, though.

Are there fics, though, where Kakashi is the lightning-cutting, porn-reading, jutsu-stealing, A-ranked badass he really is and not some fanon caricature?

(If he alludes to his seiyuu's role as Rom Stoll - e.g. "WAIT!" and "You don't deserve to know my name!", even better.)
5. Blaster90 Arboreal Nemesis

I got nothing. Granted, I haven't read that many Naruto fics but most of the ones I read either turn Kakashi into an unreliable lazy bum, the Naruto-verse version of Krillin, or just plain don't have him in the story.
6. The fans being true to Kakashi's character in fanon? HAH They either use him as a scapegoat for neglecting Naruto and or somehow leading to Naruto feeling betrayed and escaping from the village or some such bull. It's one thing to write a story for the sake of the story, like Screen keep harping on about, but pulling out shit like this? Someone said once, it's setting bashing? I completely agree. Most stories these few years is always about somehow elevating Naruto by deliberately downplaying other characters for the sake of the story.
7. Winchester Apprentice shipwright

Oh yeah, anyone remember all the Burakumin fics? Every so often someone pulls that idea out and gives it another go, but it's still all just "let's give Ranma a reason to hate everyone".

Here are some recs from the last day or so's reading:

Life Starts at Sixteen by Another Reader. Basically, "what if genin didn't graduate until sixteen?" Mizuki happened on the original schedule, but not exactly the same way; and the story starts with graduation and team assignments several years later. There's some NaruHina fluff, but the teams are the original ones so they're not joined at the hip. Story is about to reach the Chuunin Exam arc.

Shinigan by alethiophile, gives Naruto a version of the Mystic Eyes of Death Perception, courtesy of an assassination attempt two years before the main story, which also puts him into contact with the fox (who is still an asshole). Naruto is a bit smarter and is working on sealing in this fic, which has just finished up the preliminaries in the Chuunin exam arc. This too is slightly NaruHina fluffy, and the Hyuuga match just went almost worse than usual...
8. Lifelink Breaking a dragon's heart? That's a paddling.

The mystic eyes of death perception...? Well a lot of these fics needs to give Naruto some form of lolpwn eyes that should turn all their battles into staring contests to see who blinks(read: dies) first. *sigh*

note: I know what the MEDP is
9. BadHabits Bad Puppy

If that's your only objection then go ahead and give it a read - the author manages to actually use the eyes to nerf Naruto - and it's a completely believable nerf given just how the MEDP work. At least in the beginning, and as Naruto begins to learn to handle the power he plays the methods, means, and side-effects in such a way that you're left wondering if it's truly such a good idea.

Unfortunately the author seems to be following the canon storyline up to this point and as anyone who's read any substantial amount of Naruto-fic can attest canon retreads can get really boring, really fast.
10. Winchester Apprentice shipwright

It's going to start heading off the rails pretty soon.
One of the things the MEDP lets Naruto do here is to utterly destroy seals, with no backlash. Sasuke's hickey is the first major thing this is tested on, followed by Anko's. Also, with two thirds of the Sound team KIA in the forest, and the preliminaries mixed up some, it's not all that boring up to here anyway. And of course, Naruto isn't planning on stopping with beating Neji up, here...
Another Naru/Hina fic, this one definitely not married to canon:

Way of the Geisha by chancewriter. Hinata's kidnapping is a little more successful than in the manga, in that she's lost to the village - but she's also lost to the Kumo nin, due to a seal placed over her eyes that'll lead to eventual blindness. She's grown up training to be a geisha, with her pretty, "blind" eyes being a major attraction. Guess who's invited to the teahouse for his birthday by his pervy sensei?

This fic is complete at nearly 150k words, with a what-happened-next epilogue and all.
11. Angelform Celestia’s messenger

Next instalment in the Delicate Things series has started.
The Flesh is a Delicate Thing.

Set during the timeskip and follows on from the changes of the last story.
12. Kerrus Pope Owl

This is a rec thread, not an update thread: why are you reccing this and why should we care?
13. Winchester Apprentice shipwright

The Mind is a Delicate Thing, the original story, has Sarutobi assign an OC chuunin to do psych evaluations of teams 7, 8, 9 and 10 - since they contain a bunch of kids who are showing warning signs. He substitutes for their jounin sensei on c-ranks etc, to get to know the kids. As a by-product of some of the "extra" missions the author invents for this, Sasuke learns of the Kyuubi weeks before the chuunin exams, and Sakura figures out that she needs to get stronger and smarter at about the same time. Changes spiral from there (and from his interactions with the other teams.
As of the end of the last fic, Hyuuga Hiashi is the fifth Hokage, Hyuuga Hanabi killed herself to prevent capture by Orochimaru; Sasuke didn't go willingly; Sakura made chuunin instead of Shikamaru; Team Seven took out Kabuto and Jiraiya takes all three of them on the three-year trip; and aside from Orochimaru and Akatsuki there's a conspiracy among the minor villages such as Waterfall and Snow to take on the big ones. And in the opening chapter of the sequel, Orochimaru kills Shizune right in front of Tsunade, causing her to swear unholy vengeance on the snake.
Way too much canon railroading. Some elements are change, some pov are shifted, but apart from
the Curse Seal issue
nearly everything follow canon, with near zero butterfly effect. After the last events there should be some change but waiting 150,000 words for that is quite frustrating.

Honestly, I didn't find this very good. First, it start off with the 'Naruto has a bunch of assassinations against him' which was a minor point against it. It's second big problem is the author makes the same mistake many authors make, having a character be 'smart' by having them act as if they have a copy of the story, such as calling Kakashi out on the bell test or eating beforehand. Which honestly has always struck me as one of the stupidest things people do, there is literally no reason Naruto should know that Kakshi isn't planning to make him puke (hell I'd love to see a story which subvert this cliche by having Naruto eat, and then reveals that if anyone does eat beforehand Kakashi simply uses a jutsu on them to make the nauseous).

These might be forgivable, if it wasn't compounded with it third crime, which is not allowing Sasuke or Sakura to develop much at all. Despite the four year time skip which is, I assume, there to facilitate a more mature group, these two are barely changed at all. Sakura still fainting when Sasuke gets buried, and Sasuke as vengeance obsessed as ever. I mean, the story has Naruto get all of Kakashi's tricks, yet Sasuke, the guy who, you know, actually figured out the first Chunin exam doesn't? By removing one characters flaws, (Naruto) while keeping the others, it turns them into little more than cardboard cutouts for Naruto to knock down. Heck the author added a 'chakra test' to the genin exam for not discernible reason other than to allow Naruto to show off how awesome he was.

Even Naruto's own maturity strike me as rather hollow. As I already said his increased intelligence is little more than getting an\ advanced guide to all the hints. A serious upgrade in jutsu's, and of course somehow magically acquiring the hots for Hinata. Rather than a real example of the character we know growing into maturity. Now maybe Sakura and Sasuke get better, but frankly, after the early bell test I just didn't care, because the only reason they will is in order to show what a good influence Naruto is. They only exist to show off his awesomeness, and frankly that's a shit way to use them.

Oh, and it nerfs shadow clones- early on it mentions that if a shadow clone pops, Naruto doesn't get the chakra back, despite the Sage Arc explicitly contradicting this. It was also, generally speaking, fairly wooden and stilted, and I didn't really enjoy reading it that much.
17. Dry heaves suck way more than vomiting
18. clockworkchaos It's an Avatar Avatar

The point.

Your head
19. When does the Sage Arc contradict that? Naruto only gets chakra back if the technique is released, not when it's forcibly broken.
20. ScreenXSurfer Humanity+

Some people consider it one in the same. Wonder where the author is going to take the story at that point.
21. ... Shadow Clones would literally be the most broken technique imaginable if forcibly breaking them returned the Chakra. Why wouldn't Naruto just stay safe and put all his Chakra into one clone?
22. Shadow Clones are already pretty much the most broken technique ever.

Even if you can make and maintain just one then that automatically allows you to focus on nothing but improving your body while you clone is off doing everything mental/skill based.

With just one you have the perfect spy and assassin; all your knowledge and skills and once destroyed or dismissed it leaves not a single trace while giving you all of it's experiences and memories.

And yes, all indications are that they return chakra regardless of the manner that they are dispelled in.
23. No, I just agreed with the rest of stuff about how much fake "intelligence" on the part of Naruto sucks.
24. clockworkchaos It's an Avatar Avatar

Oh, okay. Sorry lack of tone and poe's law make it really difficult to tell if someone is serious.

Honestly to weigh in on shadow clone, I really don't care one way or the other about authors nerfing them. Power is simply not a big concern to me, and honestly it seem rather silly that people get annoyed with nerfing a character when giving them more power is perfectly all right. As long as the character are well treated and act appropriate, and the story is well written. I have little problem with removing the fox from Naruto or having Sasuke lose his eyes in his first fight.
25. ttestagr Joy

Kyuubi during that arc. The final bunshin Naruto had gathering nature energy to make sage chakra was forcibly broken when the fox came out to play. When Minato reseals it, we see that the chakra had gone back to Naruto: he's in sage mode.
