Can they stop the German invasion? I think that modern-day Netherlands could certainly stop the first and second wave of troops invading and try to do as much damage as possible in order to force the Germans to the table for negotiations before any of the more savvy and cunning individuals in the Reich realize that Netherlands has neither the infrastructure nor the resources to replace a lot of the military hardware and equipment for a prolonged conflict. Once negotiations happen, then Netherlands had better keep up the ruse that they can and will use their advanced military technology to the greatest effect. This would be to buy enough time to give the leadership in Amsterdam to decide what to do before Hitler and his cronies discover that Netherlands deceived them and decide that this upstart country is too tempting a target to pass up. Edit: Den Haag. Thanks goes to primer for pointing out my mistake. If negotiations cannot begin, then I agree with the posters above who said that they should just pack up, leave, and destory as much of the advanced, well, everything to deny the Axis Powers any of it.
Our government seats in Den Haag, not Amsterdam Our military would be strong enough to defeat the invasion forces which were mostly B quality troops and a single SS and tank Regiment. But they can't stand the weight of the entire German Wehrmacht so yes, punch hard and keep up appearance with a bluff to get the Germans to the table. A decapitation strike would also be possible, I'm sure we'd have some historians who know where the German leadership is on invasion day.
Sorry about that mistake! Definitely shows my lack of knowledge. Though I am curious: Does the Netherlands military have a rapid response force at the ready that could do such a decapitation strike within a week or two? Or would it be just something that your military would have to rush?
Get a 4 ship of F-16's and a KDC-10 with LGB's and you could take out the top 8 Nazi's with a 2000 pounder each. Use another 4 ship with KDC-10 to take out the top 8 military commanders. That is if we have the books/knowledge on where everyone is.
I can imagine the assumingly inadaquate 1940 roads are going to be blocked by hundreds of thousands of Dutch civillians in their modern cars attempting to get away to France or Spain.
2000 pounder?*whistles in appreciation* I almost feel pity for those Nazis. Almost. Very true on knowing whether or not the books or people have knowledge on where everyone is as that could put a bit of a damper on any strike. Anyway, thanks for the reponse.
But...but whatever happend to Nuke Them Until They Glow, Than Shoot Them in the Dark? Plus these are Nazis.
Hmm ... I'd think the CV9035NL would be more than capable of stopping German armor with a 35mm Bushmaster, and the Dutch seem to have plenty of them. So no real need to rush on getting the Leopards out of storage, or using up air-dropped munitions on combatants - save them for destroying logistics and aircraft. Pre-emptive strikes on German airfields would be useful.
Might we relax that restriction in this case, as it might become a do or die option in this scenario? Not that the losers in Den Haag have the stomach for ordering a strike.
This, if nukes are used it'll take the fun out of the scenario. They are pretty much a insta win button. And IIRC any place with US nukes is US territory so it won't be send back in time.
Killing the top tier of Nazi's and military commanders should be help enough until we kick the Germans out of our country I'd say.
Well, if they can spare a few planes and bombs, bomb all bridges over the river Meuse in Belgium and that might put a serious dent in the German plans. Followed by sending aerial photos of German tanks moving through the Ardennes to Allied commanders. After all, the German attack on the Netherlands and northern Belgium was a decoy. A ruse to lure in the cream of the French army and the BEF into Belgium, then cut them off by moving the Panzers through the Ardennes into Northern France and make a mad dash for the Channel. If the Germans are halted at the Meuse for long enough so the Allies can redeploy things will probably start to look a whole lot different. The Germans might still defeat the French, as defeatist and ill prepared as it was back then, but it would take them longer and bloody them more then it would have done for them historically. Since the attack on the Netherlands is just a diversion I highly doubt that they're going to keep throwing troops at us if they're in for the fight of their lives further down south.
Than on the other hand, Future Dutch People might have them scrap all existing plans, and make new ones given this radically changes the situation. They don't know the armed forces don't have the supplies or inmediate available manpower to run an extended battle or starting a campaign into Germany itself. They'll be too occupied with flabbergasting over all this future tech, not to mention future knowledge of coming events.
