OCC thread: It's springtime 2.0

  1. RocketMedic Red Dirt Democrat

Tabi, lets put our heads together.
  2. Coyote Ruler of Naboo

Don't get on Lumus. He's far more open to constructive criticism and character growth. He's made more strides in a year than any Reach plot or character has in four.

I'm tired of it. Even now, we're filling pages and pages of stuff rehashing things that were supposed to have been solved at the beginning of the Sith War. Tesher should not be here. At all. Period. It is not sane, even in a ultra high-fantasy setting like Star Wars, for him to be around again. It is not fucking sane for Reach to even exist anymore. After double-crossing Dooku at the height of his power, they should have been erased from the Galaxy, scourged from history, with no stone left atop another and the salt churned six meters into the earth.

It's maddening. It's frustrating. In order to accommodate this annoying madness, credible bad guys have to be nerfed, competent allies have to become utter nebbishes, and plot holes big enough to drive trucks through have to be waved aside. It's done. As a professional writer, yes I've earned money doing this in the real world, a mere pittance I admit and not something I was able to make a sustainable living on, but as a professional writer it is reaching the point where I cannot choke it down any more and pretend it's fine. Maybe I'm still pissed at the way the Star Trek story was left in ruinous tatters, but now something else I really like is making it's first slow swirl around the bowl. I feel I've really tried to give chances, constructive criticism, and the like but it is an ongoing exercise in damage control. Rocket does not give a tinker's fuck about anything anyone else is trying to accomplish, and I am getting drawn into another situation where the very story environment itself is going to become toxic very soon. The pissing match developing now is how good stories start to unravel, don't anyone here pretend they haven't seen it before. Look at the last two pages: it's taking over. The stupid is taking over, like a fucking cancer. And no one will call him on it.

I'm going to see through the Sith arc and start divesting myself. I'll set up sustainable "outs" and proper epilogues for the named characters. Lesser characters, B-listers, and the like I will probably cut loose to be recruited.
I'll keep the SAS as a small regional power in a state of relatively permanent isolation; a hermit kingdom. Maybe someday it'll emerge again and I'll jump in, if the thing hasn't totally unraveled-- I have too much invested to walk away completely. But I can't just stand aside and let one more thing get pissed on again. It's fucking bullshit, and I'm not getting paid to deal with it.
  3. Tabi AsukaQuest Has Infected Me With Cat Ears

    Coyote, please don't.

These last few posts are going to end, and I'm pretty sure once it is over, RocketMedic is going to leave. Whether or not he wants to or not, he will. Just abide for it awhile longer and it'll be over come tomorrow when L_C has Devian do his thing and end Reach forever.

Then we can have a little celebrations. :)
Lumus Iden and Hectonkhyres like this.
  4. Coyote Ruler of Naboo

I hope so, because I have other productive things I could be doing instead of cleaning up messes-- again. I really, really love the SAS and the characters there, but the nice thing about these characters is that they are not tied exclusively to this milieu. I can turn them into anything, with a few changes, and carry on in a bullshit-free existence where I feel like my efforts are worth something.
  5. Tabi AsukaQuest Has Infected Me With Cat Ears

Believe me when I say I know exactly how you're feeling. As far as bad players go, RocketMedic is one of the worst we've seen. Today is the day we ultimately ban him, but before we do that, we can at least let him make his last posts.

Which amount to possibly two or three more. Afterwards, he will leave, or I'll have Corporal hit him with the hammer and lock him out of this subforum.
  6. Corp General of Seventh Gate

I don't think it's that bad Coyote. Yes this crap flares up far too often and they fucking suck but we've worked through it and I have complete faith we'll work through this as well. This SD will end one day, as they all must, but it's not going to be due to a barely active faction.
  7. PhantomVX2000 Breaking the reality

In all seriousness, count me in on permanent expulsion.

Despite honest criticism and suggestions from the playerbase, he'd not changed the way he run his nations and characters. He continued in a very detrimental way, which is seriously affecting the whole community in bad way. The recent event is very distracting enough because today'd been all about a front about Reach and Sith; it was a reason why I hadn't started writing my next 'Sith Academy' post because I felt like not motivated writing when there is a pissing match going on. I know the feeling what was like having to deal this kind of situation with RocketMedic. I was there before, and it was not pleasant experience.
  8. Antonid_Delievv Adorable Cat (hug me!)

And that´s how you get another vote.

If you care a little about the rest of this community, leave this place now, please.
  9. An Ancient God of Zeppelins

The larger discussion aside, I'm replying to this part as purely a technical matter that applies to anyone considering the extensive use of missile tech.

True, however, the AIM-120 is a medium range AAM, which everyone either has or has equivilants of. The kind of stuff you're trying to pull is extreme range AIM-54 work, the AIM-120 is roughly analogous to the proton torpedo, which everyone has and does not have any significant range advantage in firepower.

A throttled motor accelerates more slowly and takes far longer to cross a given distance (as it is using less fuel), making it inifinitely easier to spot, counter and/or shoot down.

The hypermatter reactor tech that gives those vehicles the capability is a power generator that is usable only for single-use hyperspace jumps, not general propulsion. Only the largest fighters can fit a regular hypermatter reactor aboard for STL flight. Even the largest fighter-based missile is also dozens of time smaller that a probe-droids hyper-space pod.

Not in an SW battle, everyone has jammers, and that includes capital ships. A capital ship will put out more power over more bands than any fighter could ever hope to physically handle at range. Fighter jammer suites will work at close ranges against specific threats, at long range it's the massed capital ship jamming suites that prevent any attempt to lock on.

A home onjame system would send all the fighter missiles after the nearest capital ship, as at any significant range it would be the largest, most obvious and probably only distinguishable source of jamming. And it's jammer suite, being physically larger than any strike craft, would cover far more frequencies at high power than any redundant sensor suite ever could hope to on a fighter or missile.

In atmosphere, yes, in space, no. Sensor feed would pick up the missiles beyond visual range, and the missiles scanners would likewise light up any lock-on warning suites in the fighters. In space, the closing speeds are huge, a slight jink at the last minute would neccessitate a course correction the missile may not even have time to process, let alone the energy to make.

A target-lock is a target-lock, whether at short or long range. And as I've pointed out above, the capital ship jamming suites will render long-range scans and locks impossible anyway, and any home-on-jam system is only going to send missiles after the only real source they can see, which would be a capital ship.

Because of the aforementioned capital ship jamming issues, target locks at ranges much beyond that are extremly unlikely. Not to mention the potential for evasion. By contrast, an incoming missile with an active seeker, no real defences and a predictable course is a much easier target.

Excpet not, the scenario presented is where a missile ship is under bombardment by a gunship. In this case almosy no missiles would reach their target, because the gunship will be spraying a contant stream of fire at the missile silos, the moment any missile launches, it will be caught in the stream of fire it's just launched into and detonated right next to the launching ship. The fire would be concentrated on this area because assuming no missiles are launched, it's still the quickest way of killing the ship as all the gunfire must do is breach the silo doors and detonate the missiles inside the ship.

The situation would be like an AEGIS destroyer trying to launch SM-2's whilst the VLS cells were being hosed by several dozen HMG's and rapid-fire deck guns.
  10. Darth Invictus True Ruler of the Crystal Empire

Lumus and Flarestar do more in one week than Reach has done in three years

Consider my mind made up, another vote for expulsion, I was willing to stay out of this but I won't stand for ragging on another player to countebance your failings
  11. Dark Primus TRANSFORMERS RULES

A question to all active players. Should we ask a mod to erase the last of Rocket's posts? Reading them leaves me with a bad taste in my mouth and ignore the part where Darien Tesher ever returned? Since none of our characters ever saw him.
Or let Tabi cleanse what remains what's left of Rocket's little faction and then forget all about him? No clean up, no after effects, nadda.

I want to indulge myself with the image Darien Tesher never returned back from the dead, he was killed, sent to hell and that's that.

Edit: I too support a permanent ban from SWROE subforum.
  12. Tabi AsukaQuest Has Infected Me With Cat Ears

Nah, I went through the trouble of letting RocketMedic write one last post so I can read Lightning_Count's post about purging Darien Tesher (again) and Seth Harth (his two favorite characters it seems) forevermore.

After that, I'll finish my little genocide and all will be well.

Rocket is leaving for good. So we don't have to worry about him after all this.
  13. I keep on forgeting whats the treaty of friendship part mean? Is it the diplomatic part of the offer. Plus I wonder how Mandus would respond to this offer since he have such a large stake in the Fel Barnoy.
  14. An Ancient God of Zeppelins

Heh, the SWE probably has unfinished business there as well. We're also closer.
  15. Tabi AsukaQuest Has Infected Me With Cat Ears

Of course not. Friendship is just another word for 'making terrible terrible war upon you later.'
  16. Dark Primus TRANSFORMERS RULES

:D Lol. Apparently a genocide seems to have a good effect on people, in this case.
Just hope L_C can write something that's truly insane, painful, nightmarish end, times a hundred to Darien Tesher so he will forever dread to the very thought of ever returning back to the world of the living,
  17. Tabi I know your are piss at RocketMedic take it on him not me.
  18. Herald It doesn't really matter

Not a permanent player anymore but ending this and an expulsion seems to be the only choice left. I remember when Rocket first joined and it was urged he be given a second chance after what happened in the last SD. But it just seems to be happening again. Never played Coyotes ST SD but heard Rocket made missile ships in that one as well. I suppose some of this could have been forgiven if it was an innocent misunderstanding or there was a story or even a collaboration. But everything seems to be more for shit and giggles. And some of Rockets replies have not made many endearing to him.

Though maybe Set Harth can live for someone else to take him as a character? Just a shame for a canon character to be killed because of a players abuse.
  19. Coyote Ruler of Naboo

Looks like it's being taken care of and we can continue as before once this last bit is cleaned up. Thank the gods!If we have to, then we can use the 'ignore' function if he comes back in another form or tries to sockpuppet. It'll be easy to tell; look for one-dimensional characters, missile ships, and dialogue from a 1950's comic book trying to pass as philosophy.

    Tabi, you officially rock.
  20. Corp General of Seventh Gate

Meh, I kind of feel like we have enough thousand year old Jedi running around. Let Harth pass on. The quicker this gets wrapped up and we stop talking about this whole issue the better. :)

And I'll just take this chance to again mention the following:

If you want to be involved in a larger story that involved other players talk to them first and ask permission.
If you're doing something something that might have a major affect on someone else's character or faction talk to them about it before hand so everyone is on the same page.
If someone else does something with your characters that you really disagree with please send them a PM instead of airing your problems in the OOC thread. Work out the issues privately, perhaps with a small note to let others know you disagree with the post and are trying to work out a solution.

It'd be really nice if this was the last time the OOC broke out into a big argument. Wishful thinking I know, but hey a guy can dream. :)

Attempted returns shouldn't be a major issue. The mods are more than happy to ban people from our sub-forum if the majority of the player base requests it. ;) Tabi when you put in the request you might also want to ask the mods to delete that extra OOC thread.
  21. Antonid_Delievv Adorable Cat (hug me!)

@Invictus: Operation Redreitt is on the march but it will take several game-time weeks to complete, so is not realistic I shall continue with more posts until you make your move (whatever it is) at the Onderon Conference. Elastic time have its limits.

    I´ll wait.
  22. Darth Invictus True Ruler of the Crystal Empire

I'm preparing a post about the Conference, if it gets too pressing DeLievv could slip away and leave someone in his place

Also, any chance Macharius could get in on the massacre of Reach? Maybe murder their President?
  23. Lightning_Count Zar Belk!

Macharius is I believe also persona non grata right now :p

Besides, I expect a Krennath will want to talk to Halles about hiding a fugitive :)
  24. An Ancient God of Zeppelins

Well, lemme see, the galaxies single most powerful warship (barring it's sister ship) is currently completeing a mission in the Deep Core, which is about 10 minutes away from Reach, combined extreme firepower, an excpetionally bad week for Krennath and the knowledge that said faction has been harbouring the somehow raised Tesher? I think both Alex and Andris will want something more than a 'word' with these people :p
  25. PhantomVX2000 Breaking the reality

Nah, it would be MORE poetic justice to have Tesher and Halles lynched by Centran survivors. He destroyed their nation by unleashing the plagues, and Halles for sheltering Tesher. :D

I am seriously thinking about writing a post where Halles mysteriously disappears while on Serenno, perhaps the public believed that she was grabbed by an unknown party. But in the truth was, the Mandalorian-trained Centrans are behind her disappearance.
