You know, Explosion has a pretty big radius. That fleet of Albion's is not exactly small, you know. I wouldn't be surprised if she covered a good fraction of London in a single Explosion, in which case she can cherry-pick her enemies.

Question: is Louise's Explosions spell capable of distinguishing between friend and foe within its confines, or can it only choose to kill or not kill? Because the latter is what I recall when someone cited the relevant passage back in Unfamiliar.

IIRC it explicitly says Louise could choose who to kill and not kill, and implicitly implied she can identify every single target in the blast radius and choose whether to let the target live or not. Said target doesn't have to be alive or human, as Louise decided to just nuke the ships' infrastructure.

Windstones didn't get a choice however, it's automatically 'dispelled' by reacting with Void magic.

You're operating on the assumption that I'll get done first. This assumption is wrong. I'm basically known for two things: writing snippets that Laluzi enjoys just a little bit too much, and being an incredibly slow writer. I've been working on the cross off and on for nearly a year now. I'm still not done writing the first scene of the prologue!*

*To be fair, most of the scenes in the prologue and first chapter are in various states of completion; I've just never gotten back to finishing the dialogue of that first scene.

Don't worry about whether to use it or not too much. I'm just frustrated that everyone keeps hitting on ideas that I've been sitting on for up to a nearly a year now.

Seeker pistol. She'd have a mix of concussion rounds for nonlethal work, EMP for "antimagic" (ie, taking out radios), HEAP for anti-armor work, plasmaburst for fireball goodness, and thermobaric rounds for the boom god. Then again, if she's a stable psi-epsilon, she won't need the first two types, so that should cut down on her load.

If you insist on real-world weapons, then I recommend one of three pistols:

I'm actually basing the heavy pistol in Eclipse Phase off of features of the latter two, particularly the recoil reduction mechanism built into the front of the Kard and the telescoping stock of the VBR-B.

This is still more than exist for my take as of now. Still plotting. On the other hand, once I actually sit down to write, things tend to happen fast. I am still an Epic Level Procrastinator, though - this entire idea is a tangent to put off working on the two ongoing takes.

Hm... Some sort of RPG equivalent, or a grenade launcher, is what I'd settled on and this is pretty much it. A full size, old style RPG is a bit large for her to carry around concealed, though (on the other hand, the looks on peoples faces when she pulls it out may make it worth invoking hammerspace)...

Yeah, Bebop tends to mostly use existing weapons for handguns. Part of it is, I guess, to avoid having to come up with their own designs when there's a lot of existing material to study and make realistic looking guns, and another part of it - still guessing - is that they want to capture the Hong Kong action movie feel, and part of that is using existing weapons even in SF flicks. And since it's animation, rare and uncommon or expensive guns can come out to play in force, though they mostly tend to avoid stuff that looks too futuristic to fit in with the style. Well funded government/military outfits tend to have fictional guns, while bountyheads and cowboys tend to make do with existing ones.

What category Louise would fall into will probably decide what she has access to.

I'd say no purely on personal preference. It's overhyped - if you want a .357 a S&W is good enough. Probably a bit to much gun for a small slip of a girl like Louise as well.

These two I've never heard of.

Personally - for handguns - I'm halfway tempted to give her either a Browning HP (the classic option, also playing of the fact that this is a handgun from the BeNeLux, but a bit of a mook gun in verse), or else stick her with a CZ 75 (my personal preference)... Probably the Browning.

And an RPG.

I'd stick with seeker pistols, rifles, and armbands for Louise. If you really need a fuckhuge gun for her, I'd go with a full plasma rifle, and leave everyone wondering how she managed to even acquire one, much less conceal it.

And that's exactly why I stuck the real-world guns in there. I figured you'd probably want to stick to the Cowboy Bebop theme even when an EP gun makes so much more sense. How can you have Louise Valliere without massive collateral damage?

The point was Weeaboo autorevolver, not the caliber. If anything, I'd change the caliber to 10mm Auto just for the rage it would generate amongst gun nerds.

That's because they're both prototypes. The Kard is made by the same people who made the TDI Vector.

I actually was going to suggest a CZ75 as a way of saying "I have no idea what kind of gun would fit her, so have a favorite of gun nuts everywhere." Then I remembered seeker pistols.

A Browning Hi-Power is actually a pretty good choice for her, as it's relatively small compared to the other choices. It'd fit her tiny little hands better.

Maybe go with this, or a derivative, and enough hand grenades to make May Hopkins call overkill.

With the proper ammo, yes.

In summary though - Irene "Rally" Vincent, if gifted with Gandalfr, would not become a better marksman than she already is. And Minnie May Hopkins would put the fear of god into anything with her explosives.

Having just received the ten GBA games from the Ambassador program today, I am struck by a thought.

Louise wants a strong familiar, and I have found a good one from the games I just got for free.

Unbelievable strength. Incredible endurance allowing this being to shrug off attacks that should kill any human. A tenacious personality that will never back down once a goal has been decided. This potential familiar has all these.

Generally, you're going to want to be looking Seeker-wards for her. Firstly, she's going to want at least one Seeker Armband, because they allow her to point at a target and make them explode. Personally, I'd save those for the emergency self-defence things, so I'd have her load them with a mix of HEAP and Plasmaburst, which are the "I kill you" choices, and since armbands fire micromissiles, she's going to want all the firepower she gets for her backup. Then, as mentioned, she can have a more general Seeker Pistol; I'd load that one with a mix of Overload (sense-fuckers), Gas, and Frag. Sadly, given the nature of Seekers, taking the Zero smart munitions option for them is suboptimal. She should probably go for simple Homing or Accushot for them.

... but, yeah. Her "sig" thing would be the Seeker Armbands loaded with HEAP and Plasmaburst, where she just points, and the rail system kicks the micromissile out, before it ignites. It lets her keep the the "wand" aesthetic, which is also why I suggest that she only have one-handed weapons.

It might also make sense for her to carry a Microwave Agoniser, as it's a hand-held personal defence system with a non-lethal mode, and doesn't do things like "punch a hole in the side of a ship". And it means that when Saito made problems for her, she microwaved him.

Slightly better than summoning Saito I suppose. But there's not much about Mechazawa that really makes him stand out besides being a delinquent, you know?

Kage, Helkagia doesn't deserve Wario dumped in there.

I mean, for all we know, getting a full power Explosion may just sing him a little. Not even the Tabiclone could slow him down... unless she's using many jewels and gold on her persona, then she could probably save herself.

Are there any negative consequences (besides socially imposed by other people, of course) for a familiar killing the master? Pretty much the only relevant case was Sasha.

The familiar getting chased and being put down like a rabid dog? The negative impact from the Valliere family and their connections/allies? Yeah if someone killed Louise then they are basically fucked unless they themselves have great clout or power.
