I see nothing but good coming out of giving out condoms in school like this. If you kids don't have sex, doesn't matter, but we all know the reality

At least that kind of standardized testing could plausibly sound like a good idea to some people. But apparently someone actually said something to the effect of "Hey I got an idea. Lets tell the kids not to have sex, and then they won't."

Abstinence only would be more practical if people weren't expected to be financially independent before getting married.

Abstinence only sex-ed is like communism, it's good in theory but in practice it tends to go quite badly, the class president should be commended for taking a stance on it

I figured out at 10 years old I wanted to have sex, figured out in the young teens how to get a grip for myself and then figured hey I REALLY want to have sex.....I did manage to hold off until my early twenties but that was for a great many choices I made on my own and not a one had to do with the "abstinence only" bullshit because pretty much as soon as I was in a solid relationship I started having sex as often as I could and haven't stopped since lol

Students will fuck regardless. The only way to stop them is to have armed guards at the prom shooting all the couple who will have sex.

Abstenance might work if your dealing with church going zealots but mere humans nah not a chane in hell.

So I think abstinence only is a crock of shit ... but I don't think they should be handing out condoms at the freaking prom. Maybe they could have a bowl of free condoms placed somewhere or something but even then I'm a little hesitant. There's already enough pressure for people going to prom to fuck afterwards and if the school is basically saying the same thing then I'd feel bad for the girls who don't really want to but suddenly feel it's expected of them because even the SCHOOL thinks it's going to happen.

I will offer the same service I offered during my prom: I hit every male entering in the nads with a baseball bat. Boom, no after prom sex. Damn school board turns me down every year.

Communism is IMO crap on paper- equalize wealth for everyone by giving power to a small group with little accountability? Seems like the opposite of what you'd want to achieve that goal.

This i can agree with. Handing out condoms is an extra little bit a pressure, a lot when you consider it's school sanctioned.

I will argue that providing condoms does not really pressure the kids to have sex. Does a parent giving their kid condoms and saying "Just in case." tell their kids "I want you to have sex?"

Basically, its saying that "You're expected to have sex on Prom night"

It's not the intent, but if i know highschoolers(and i do, i am one) that's the message they'd get out of it.

And yes, a parent giving their kid a condom is just as much. It's saying it's expected of them to be having sex, which in turn makes them want to have sex.
