  2. I like it, sounds interesting. I wonder what impact this can have on the others.
Thought up a similar idea myself, but it differs in that Shinji wouldn't put on masks to please others, but instead puts on masks where he becomes others, complete with costume change and wigs.

It's four years before the Angels are set to show up. And Shinji, Asuka, and Rei have just been sucked into several nearby computer-screens. So begins their adventures in the digital world with their digimon partners. They will, of course, have to resolve some of their emotional issues if they're going to get their partners up to mega level and beat the bad guys.

Asuka would be the gogglehead, obviously. If I was writing it I'd give Rei a partner who has Lilithmon as their Mega form, but I can't decide if I want to mirror Hikari or go through the plant digimon instead.

    ...
Once again, strange minds think alike. NGE/Digimon was exactly what lurked around in my head when I pitched this idea about Rei.

Albeit my mind conjured up the idea that Rei's partner never digivolves until the very end. When it does, though... cue digital world's equivalent of Third Impact and the partner one-shotting the bad guy all by itself. This is Evangelion we're talking about, after all; having at least one kid who can unintentionally cause the apocalypse is all but mandatory.

Moral of the story: never underestimate a little girl who doesn't seem to be entirely aware of her surroundings.

Hmm... Shinji putting on a 'mask' tailored to every person he meets...

After Third Impact the nascent Angels took up residence within the AT fields of female humans, instinctively knowing that they might eventually be born into the world in this manner. Initially nobody knew of this and plans were set into motion to fight the angels tooth and claw, using terrifying biomechanical machines of war synchronized to emotionally stunted children.

When the current location of the angels was revealed, however... there were massive face faults all around, and Ikari Gendou was assigned to do something about it. After a bit of trial and error it was discovered that simply killing the hosts would not force the Angels to manifest; they would just quietly find another host. The angels needed to be forced out of their hiding places by the mending of the psyches of their hosts and then killed on the spot using the afforementioned biomechanical warmachines.

Many sighs of relief were released when it was discovered that the billions of dollars spent on Project E had not in fact been wasted, but questions still remained as the optimal method of making the hosts 'whole' enough that the angels could be forced out. After several more years of research it was decided that getting the hosts to fall in love seemed like the most viable option.

Thus, to address this world-ending threat... Gendou summoned his estranged son, Shinji. He had been carefully neglecting Shinji for years to ensure that he would be affection starved enough to synchronize with an Evangelion, which might have made Shinji a... less than ideal tool for this new method, but with the UN constantly looking over his shoulder Gendou was in no hurry to try putting the moves on any 13-year old girls. If nothing else, he figured that at least some of the old Ikari mojo must have been passed onto his son - and he would need it, considering the emotional states of most the known angel hosts...

    AHAHAHAHAHAHA!!!

Now THAT I'd really want to read! I proposed a similar idea months ago but yours sounds far better.
  7. ...Okay, yes, this is really good.

When going about altering Eva, the general process is to positively alter one thing, and then have a hundred go wrong to balance it. My process tends to skip part two in favor of crack and fluff. :D

This seems to fit that better than my concept. Essentially, Mask!Shinji's problems would stem from dealing with the conflicting desires of the fragmented mess that calls itself NERV.
  8. Teen Spirit Clone Murderer

Having both of them afflicted with the condition would be interesting, complicated but interesting. Assuming events go remotely like canon Gendo is going to be emotionally wrecked by the experience.

Yui appearing years after she was absorbed into unit-01 (imagine a college age Yui appearing during the middle of an angel fight) possibly meeting Shinji before he's even born, and likely knowing that his only son is going to hate him and it's all his fault.

Simply having a pilot with that condition is going to be a nightmare for everyone involved.
  9. EarthScorpion A Healing-Type Shadow Cabalite

... we can but hope that Unit 01 doesn't periodically vanish.
  10. Teen Spirit Clone Murderer

Yeah. Either we're going to assume the genetic condition doesn't pass through the soul or whatever to Unit-01 or fudge the rules a bit on things coming through trips, otherwise after one trip we're going to have an unrestrained giant lilithian angel version of Yui that occasionally travels through time.
  11. Alhazred23 Unreliable Commenter

Heh... actually i tend to not be very good act psychological drama, so i dunno if i could do an Eva fic justice. If anyone wants to take a crack at it, though, you're welcome to it. :D

I wonder though, would Asuka at some point take the 'Haqua' role? Violently tsundere over Shinji even though she doesn't quite know where she stands with him, sitting in her Eva while Shinji 'works his magic' on some other girl, waiting to play whack-a-mole with the Angel or perhaps with a two-faced little cheat - and Shinji, trying to do his thing while painfully aware that Asuka is watching his every move from the inside of a skyscraper sized engine of destruction...
  12. Lemme bring up an idea I posted in the old thread but was buried: Sombody crossovers, or peggy sues, or something, from Rebuild to the original. Or vice versa.
  13. The D Alien Wizard

I would be more worried about Rei and the Rei spares, being clones of Yui would make them strong candidates to start traveling through time, even more than Shinji or Unit-01.
  14. TheFourthman Stranger in a strangeland

Could spin that for why you can make Rei. A normal human wouldn't be able to house Lilith's soul? But Yui exists outside of space time to an extent, so her clones can handle it.

... Right now I'm trying to picture Unit 01 fighting an acasual Angel in a penultimate battle across time and space.

Kind of makes my brainmeats hurt.

It's the penultimate battle about the fate of mankind, and we've seen traces of it leading all the way up to it.

    It's what caused 2I.
It is this battle, rather than Sachiel, which causes widespread destruction in the first Episode.
Throughout the series, we occasionally see glimpses or traces of this battle occurring, hell, anytime an earlier Angel battle calls for a Deus Ex Machina (because both the acasual Angel and Unit 01 would very much like for NERV to win against the preceding Angels in the series)...
Possibly in the final battle we see history be rewritten a couple of times - hell, possibly we've already seen this happen in the show, with only the Pilots being unaffected (assuming they're protected while synched with an Evangelion). Or possibly only Rei, and to an extent (if he's synched with 01) Shinji.

    ...

EDIT: Really, less Time Travelers Wife, more Xeelee sequence.
  16. Teen Spirit Clone Murderer

Yui doesn't exist outside of space and time. The condition in Time Traveller's wife really sucks because you can't alter time in anyway shape or form, if anything Yui's more bound by space and time then a normal person.

edit: well okay that's a poor explanation, a person with the condition doesn't alter events because they were already there, They're like like a puppet that can view it's own strings I guess.

edit edit: Imagine life is a book, a normal person can only read it one page at a time, cover to cover, no looking ahead or back. A person with this condition skips through the book pretty much at random, but they can't change what happens.

As for Rei, on the one hand that does sound interesting on the other that sounds a bit too busy, following around Shinji and Yui would be pretty difficult as it considering the non-linear nature of the source material, and really when you got Yui and Shinji with this condition, what does Rei add really?
  17. TheFourthman Stranger in a strangeland

I didn't suggest that. But they do exist outside of time and space. The universe locally goes in one direction. Time goes from the past to the future. Yui is skipping along the timeline.
  18. Aranfan Metroid food

Hmm, on my digimon idea, what would people think of all three of them having Digimon who become one of the Seven Great Demon Lords as their mega forms?
  19. EarthScorpion A Healing-Type Shadow Cabalite

... that would explain why she shows up at the start of Episode 1.
  20. Well Beelzebumon could work for Shinji due to his preference for guns. Belphemon has the whole "slumbering beast" thing going for it as a parallel to Unit-1's breaking free of it's restraints.

Leviamon or Demon might work for Asuka, as they embody two of her strongest attributes Envy and Wrath. Asuka's existence as a pilot defines her in canon. She seeks attention and affirmation through it. When that is denied she can respond violently.

I would say that Rei fits with Lilithmon for obvious reasons, or Lucemon for the whole "world ending" thing he has going for him. Remember he is the only evil Digimon to successfully destroy an entire Digital World through his manipulations. Apocalymon came close but there was still a bit left when he fought the Chosen Children. BelialVamdemon just turned it into a wasteland, and Bagramon simply reformatted it into a form he found more suitable. When Lucemon was freed in Frontier the only thing left was the Dark Area, and the moons. He destroyed the moons and when defeated the first time by Susanoomon absorbed the Dark Area. So yes he ended the Digital World.
  21. amitakartok Antisocial Mecha Fanboy™

Why not just make up some Digimons?

Asuka's would definitely be an offense-oriented one. Shinji's could be a defensive one at lower levels but somewhere on par with Asuka's at higher levels - after all, he's really not the agressive type.
  22. Twitchy Artemis Between Science & Fiction

I had an idea for an Eva / digimon fic where his aunt and uncle were bakers in Tokyo 2
, he decided to play the card game a lot , and found a blue card.

Another way is to play the Xros Wars plot. Shinji was dragged into the mess by the a half-dead Shoutmon. Asuka have no idea of how she got there but is doing basically the same thing as Kiriha, just that it is to get back to the real world stead of taking over the digital one. Rei was brough into the game by DarkKnightmon in his plot to overthrow his "Aniki", she is playing along because she also want to go back but have no hurry since it was explained to her the difference in the flow of time between worlds.
  24. Teen Spirit Clone Murderer

Okay with Rei time traveling her "spare" bodies probably won't travel because the trips are usually induced by stress or outside stimulus, which the bodies like have next to none of either. Which is good, otherwise we're going to have souless Rei bodies scattered across space and time. Rei herself probably wouldn't 'travel' all that much, although considering it's Rei each trip would probably be pretty damn weird.
  25. Aranfan Metroid food

Eh, the problem with a Xros Wars fusion is that it to a very large degree depends on how Taiki is a friggen genius.
