I never said it would end well.;)

Now, as I see it, things would go very differently. Shinji would probably try a more hold-the-line like aproach to the war, taking things slowly and trying to keep his "army" alive stead of going out to conquer other zones, that is, till something go horribly wrong and, in a fit of regret fueled rage, he use digixros to create some abomination able to make even Baguramon (sp?) reconsider his plans.
  2. Aranfan Metroid food

Snapping into a berserk rage like Shinji is somewhat prone to is almost always a path to BAD END in Digimon. Besides, part of my intention with this idea is to help them resolve their issues, as is standard with Digimon.

Anyway, if Asuka is going to be the gogglehead, then she should probably get Leviamon since I'm pretty sure he's on a dragon/dinosaur type evolutionary line.
  3. Twitchy Artemis Between Science & Fiction

hmm, how about a fic where Shiji replaces tokato, and since the story would take place when he is 11, spend a few more years with him and guilimon having adventures before he goes to nerve.

Now I am think of what would happen if gallantmon biomerges with unit 01
  4. As it turns out yes Leviamon evolves from the Seadramon Line.

Use this site for Evolutionary Lines as it is one of the best out there. It also has a good Card Catalog to look at if you need inspiration through images, however the other wiki is better for attack descriptions (sometimes, not always) and references to their actions in canon.

Take the Agumon pages on them for example.

    Wikimon

    Digimon Wiki

As you can see Wikimon while better with evolutions does not have all of the relevant information posted or linked on it's page. Really it is best to go back and forth between the two sites so you don't miss anything. I have been planning some Digimon stuff myself recently (though it is on hold until I get started with a Sailor Moon/Fate Stay Night crossover) and have been doing some research myself recently, and have found that this is the best way to get what I needed information wise.
  5. If you want to help them work out their issues, then perhaps bringing out the crests from the first series would be a good idea. Their digimon's ability to digivolve would then be directly reliant upon the kids' ability to work out their issues and grow as people. Shinji can get courage, Asuka love, and Rei...sincerity?
  6. He is considering giving them the Seven Great Demon Lords for the Partners final forms. They have Crests of their own, Pride, Gluttony, Lust, Wrath, Envy, Greed, and Sloth. The Seven Deadly Sins.

............ Thinking about that makes me wonder, which Evangelion characters match up with these sins best? Funny I just saw Seven the other day on TV.
  7. Dealer Shut Up you Freak!

    Rei gets all the crests.
  8. Asuka would get Pride. Ritsuko would probably be Envy, being jealous Rei and the fact that Gendo likes her more. You could make a case for giving Misato Lust or maybe even Gluttony, but neither is really a perfect match. Same deal with Shinji and Wrath, maybe, if you look at how he was willing to tear up NERV after the 13th Angel. After that, you'd just be totally shoehorning things, I think.
  9. Asuka: Lust, envy, wraith, pride.

    Shinji: Lust, envy, Wraith, sloth.

    Rei: Sloth.

He's an idea for the Digimon/Eva thing. NERV is perfectly aware of the digital world, they know the children got sucked in, and they know of the problems within the digital world. Why wouldn't they, they helped create the thing after all.

Why did they help create it? Well synchronization requires the pilot and the soul in the core to be close for it to work. They were having trouble stabilizing human souls in cores; they had minor issues like the souls going insane. So when they found out about the existence of stable AIs that had a full range of emotions (and maybe even AT fields) they ordered a few to see if they could adapt to the core of an Eva. This experiment was a complete success, the AI (having been designed as blue boxes capable of being transfer ed across various architectures) easily made the transition to the cores. Now all they needed to to was find a way to make each potential Eva pilot bond with one of these AIs.

    Digimon series happens.

Later the angels attack and NERV finds that the Evas retain several of the AIs' major functions, such as the ability to digivolve.

Okay, I just want so see a mega form Eva (or 3, maybe even 4) kick Zeruel's behind. Having two Evas DNA digivolve to take down Israfil would also make my day.

    --

For crests, you could give each character a crest that they have to grow into. Courage for Shinji, Kindness for Asuka, IDK for Rei, Intelligence for Toji, IDK for Kaworu. You might be able to get away with pulling in some of the other future classmates or characters from side material because they are also pilot candidates.

The crests aren't really necessary. Things going wrong with forced digivolutions, or digivolutions when the human partner is in a bad place mentally, happens in pretty much every series. Takato and Masaru both very nearly get BAD ENDs when they get pissed off enough to try forcing their partners to digivolve. In Xros Wars you can't even get the digimon to digivolve without both them and their human partner being in the right state of mind.

Additionally, healthy relationships and being in a good place mentally are key to digivolution across the shows. Wormmon can't digivolve at all until Ken gets his head screwed back on straight, Renamon only starts digivolving when Rika starts defrosting and showing empathy, while in Savers Yoshino has to start working out her inferiority issues before Lalamon gets to go Perfect or Mega.
  12. Cody Fett Transitional Phrase Nut

We actually did a lot of brainstorming for a Digimon/Eva crossover over a year ago. We actually got to the point of writing episodes, and then like an idiot I took on the responsibility for the first episode myself because I had this specific idea for the plot of the first two episodes in mind and my flash drive ended up going kablooy, and, well, you know the rest. Maybe someone could dig up those old discussions now that the concept is being revived?

Also, I believe Asuka was the gogglehead in that version too. Funny how that works, huh? I guess she's just naturally fits the role. :D

Except that this is completely unsupported in any of the various series. The closest is Tamers with the Monster Makers, but even then the Digimon and Digital World seem to be emergent from the proliferation of computers and computer networks than the deliberate intent of any person or group of persons.

There's also the issue that I'm trying to give Asuka and Rei a sense of identity beyond the Evangelions and fighting the Angels (and 3I for Rei). That doesn't work if digimon and Nerv are in any way connected.

This runs right into the issue that Evas don't have different levels like Digimon do. You'd also need to scale up the Angels to match this new ability of the Eva's. Also, it reeks of shallow wish fulfillment and I'm honestly surprised to see such coming from an ideasmith of your caliber. The series mesh much better in my opinion if you keep the mechanics separated, combining and contrasting in the realm of thematics/symbolism/soul-and-relationship-metaphysics rather than in the realm of fighting techniques.
  14. There is also the fact that barring End of Evangelion Unit-1 several of the more powerful Digimon would be able to take on all of the Eva's, and the Angels at the same time and not even be phased by their combined firepower.

Even when confronted with the Third Impact causing God there are still a handful of beings in the Digital World that still stand a damn good chance of smacking it down with contempt. After all Unit-1 lack Time Manipulation, (Milleniamon, Alphamon), Anti Existence Hax (Dukemon Crimson Mode) or the ability to break a moon so hard that it's pieces annihilate two other equally large moons (Lucemon Falldown Mode, and he has the even stronger Satan Mode).

The problem with crossing over series aimed at "younger audiences" is that the usually run on "Rule of Cool" and don't care much about power scaling. Let's be honest here, a lot of the characters from "kiddy" shows can easily annihilate many of their more "mature" counterparts for this very reason.
  15. Twitchy Artemis Between Science & Fiction

Ok then, to fix that, we ask gregg if we can use the nobody dies version of the angels and eva's, they have evolutionary forms and are powerful enough to balance out.
  16. Aranfan Metroid food

Dukemon Crimson Mode didn't show any such hax in Tamers, but yeah some digimon are stupidly powerful. To my mind the simplest answer is to have the digiworld be sealed off from the human world in the aftermath of their adventure and 4 years later Evangelion happens without any further intervention from the digiworld side.
  17. ZeroTWolfram Drop kick your face

Yeah, I see the issues now that you point them out.

What I do object to is your idea that I'm a "good" ideasmith. I'm prolific at creating ideas and only post the ones that get past my internal "do I need to share this?" filter. However at 1 am on a Saturday, those filters don't work very well, so I end up saying dumb things. This idea isn't half the shallow wish fulfillment of some of my ideas, I'm just smart enough to not post those ones.
  18. Aranfan Metroid food

I've only seen your good ideas up until now, so even if you aren't a "good" ideasmith, you are usually able to fake it, which is nearly as good.

Anyway. I would like to bring up two issues. Firstly is how to keep a lid on the evangelion stuff. It's plausible enough that neither Asuka or Rei would volunteer the info that they're pilots considering that they're probably classified (for Rei), and Asuka won't want to bring up her Eva issues that will be sparked by being cut off from 02. The issue is that Rei is very likely to know about Asuka and Asuka is likely to at least know of Gendo Ikari.

Secondly is what digiegg mechanics should the digiworld run on? A place with Tamers' (lack of) digiegg mechanics is going to be a very different place than one with and Adventure/Frontier style Village of Beginnings, which will be different from one with Savers' mechanics, and Xros Wars is just strange.
  19. The Tamers movie showed Quo Vadis, Dukemon Crimson Mode's ultimate attack, and another reason I believe it is a Unit-1 Expy. It involves throwing the spear Gungnir which emits a red light causing an area of effect attack that reduces the enemies body to subatomic particles and sends their soul to another dimensions from which their is no escape, and to which no one else can follow. And he can also choose who and who not to effect with this attack which travels at the speed of light.

So to reiterate uses a spear to destroy bodies and separate souls, whilst having wings which are confirmed not to be physical but an energy emission in the shape of wings. .......... Yeah I don't think anyone can convince me this does not have shades of Unit-1. It was only used in the movie not the series as the Jeri D-Reaper Agent (ADR-01) spat out an attack that destroyed both Dukemon Crimson Mode's sword and spear. Admittedly it was likely because it would take away the drama of the situation as Quo Vadis is an "I win" button that would have allowed the destruction of the D Reaper, as going by the range of it's effect from the movie both of it's cores from the Real World (Mother D Reaper) and the Digital World (Reaper) were well within range of the attack.

As for the Digieegg issue. If you want lighthearted then go Adventure, if you want darker go Tamers. Both have their own merits and faults. With Adventure Death is not Permanent unless you are evil, and even then the more stubborn ones can come back and you have to kill them again. Tamers has death being permanent. With the first it could make them (Asuka mostly) a little more cocky as they see that as long as they defeat the villains everything will be okay. The second establishes a greater element of danger, as if they lose their partners then they are done for, making them more hesitant to rush into things once they have lost a battle and been forced to flee. Both ca force character development, it just depends which way you are going, and I can easily see the first leading to Asuka having a moment like Taichi did in Adventure where he thought that since they were in the Digital world they cannot be harmed, leading her to snap at a critical moment when she realizes that yes they can die.

You could have it be a mix, that there is a Village of Beginnings that allows their digimon to be reborn but partway through the story one of the villains destroys it, ramping up the threat level. Making the Village be tied to the mechanism of reincarnation and it's sudden loss could be a good plot point as they would see it as a failure on their part.
  20. FourthWall Had It Coming

A red spear fucking people up doesn't necessarily mean it's invoking the Lance. If it's specifically called Gungir, I'd be looking to Remi Scarlet before Shinji Ikari.
  21. Disintegrating bodies using a spear as a medium, while sending the soul someplace else and having energy wings and a body type similar to an Evangelion's whilst being the partner of a human who has similarities to Shinji Ikari does seem to indicate that Crimson Mode was based on Unit-1.

And you do know that Gungnir was Odin's in Norse Mythology and like other European Mythologies the Japanese like to use it for "rule of cool", right? Remember the Beam Saber's used by HolyAngemon and Seraphimon are called Excalibur just because they though it was cool.

Also how the Tamers movie that takes place after the series was declared not canon by Konaka. Even disregarding Word of Konaka, having an entity that over powered who isn't an antagonist does terribad things to any narrative, and care is still needed with an antagonist that powerful. Hence in any story I would write, Dukemon Crimson Mode would still be hugely powerful, but not on that level of hax.
  23. It's listed as an attack in the cards and the official profiles so Quo Vadis is canon in all material Dukemon Crimson Mode appears in regardless of the movie, it is just the only time we ever see it used. However this is a form he can only assume for short periods of time, and he has to throw Gungnir to use it. That motion leaves him open to attack as he concentrates on it, and leaves him bereft of one of his weapons, so someone can suckerpunch him before he pulls it off, or if they somehow survive the attack (which being Digimon someone surely has a power that would let them do so) they can hit him then.

That thought occurred to me so I just had to post it. Several of the more powerful Digimon have gaps in their defenses when they use their attacks. Lucemon Falldown Mode for example needs to hit an enemy with one of his energy orbs during Dead Or Alive to hold an enemy in place to hit with the other orb. Against weaker enemies that is no problem, against someone just as fast and powerful all they need to due is dodge. Or have someone attack him from another angle while he is midway through the attack. Another good example is HolyAngemon, sure his Heaven's Gate exiles the target to another dimension by pulling them in, but he has to use his beam saber to draw a circle to summon it and open it first. That takes a few seconds, leaving him open to attack.

If you are going to use any of the truly overpowered Digimon that is something that can be exploited so that they don't steamroll everyone else.

Which reminds me, we need to talk about villains on the digimon side. At first I wanted the bad guys to be angel digimon, but then I realized that that would be taking things a bit too far. Something akin to the original Adventure progression of villains would probably be most fitting.
  25. Yeah, the pilots will probably go through at least two or three "starter" villians before they get their heads screwed on (mostly) straight.

By the way, am I the only one thinking Digital Empress Naoko Akagi?
