So, we are having Irual come in this early then, I kinda had the idea of the magi being the first villains, and the kids have to purify them, and that action gives nerv the first hints that the digital world exists. Then, I was also thinking of some kind of prolonged war arc, if only so Kensuki could become the digimon version of Rommel.
Well, that's sort of what defeating Iruel implies. The Dark Ocean arc, right! I took that idea out though because I wanted less congestion in the storyline. . . . However, if the whole Dark Ocean thing can be traced back to the main villain or Seele then we'd be in business there.
Hmmm, the dark ocean is another world right? Hmmm, how to mix it in to the Eva side then..., We need to go over the meta physics of the digital world before we go over this. Is the digi world in this still a mix of dreams and data, is Lilith envolved at all?
A short snippet based from the god of time loops Innortal: Shinji blinked confused. The loop started sooner than before. He looked around. He was in Unit 01 cage with Misato and Ritsuko in the moment when he met his father. "So, this is my father's work" "...that's correct" Shinji looked up, and only said one word "Fuck" Behind a bulletproof glass above them, stood a bulky man in the commander's uniform, wire-framed glasses and a white bandanna on his bald head. Proudly, Commander Genma Ikari adressed his son. "I want you to pilot this robot" "What about.. HELL NO!!" "You have to do it, boy!! You are the only one who can!" "Well, forget it!" "Oh, the shame! Why am I cursed with such a disrepectful and whiny son" "Okay, okay, I'll do it. Just shut up." While being escorted by Ritsuko, Shinji made a mental note to kick Saotome in his privates. He started all this mess.
Dreams and data could still work, but Lilith . . . could be the world of broken dreams and biology! There was a line somewhere in Eva that all souls would return to Lilith if I remember correctly. Now, this could just be considered a metaphor for Third Impact, but what if it wasn't? The Dark Ocean is the manifestation of all the depressed and darkened souls that reside in Lilith, and when they finally beat the Dark Ocean Lilith dies along with it, which then makes Third Impact impossible! EDIT: Nerv and Seele may or may not find out about Lilith being dead until later, and the Angels would be working on the "head to the last known coordinates" style of searching.
... I was thinking that the digi world was from Lilith, and kawroui was the dark ocean. I don't think we want to kill Lilith.
I don't want to solve their issues, I want to have a stronger base of self-confidence going into the Angel War. I'd say even ten years isn't enough, especially if it's in the Digital World for the whole lenth of time, considering how different the Real and Digital Worlds are.
... a larger base of self confidence isnt something that will hep them all that much going into the angel wars, seele could still do there own version of the 3rd impact any time they choose.
The Dark Ocean is very much implied or outright stated in fanfiction nowadays to be the Dark Area, the hell to which Evil Digimon (note the capitols) are sent when they die instead of being reincarnated, and is used as a place to lock away and seal the more powerful villains in the Digital World's History such as the Seven Great Demon Lords and Grandracmon. The whole thing with Devimon coming back and being used to (re)create Chimeramon is a strong influence on this idea, as we know that Ken went to the Dark Ocean and had it corrupt his Digivice. Which makes it funny that Demon got sent there in Adventure 02 as it was pretty much locking him back up in a prison he might have already escaped from once before. So if you use the Dark Ocean keep in mind that it might be a way to bring back enemies that have already been defeated looking for a chance at revenge. Also keep in mind that if you use the Seven Great Demon Lords as the final forms for the Digimon Partners supplementary material says that those killed by them are not given a chance to reincarnate. Instead their souls are sent directly to the Dark Area, literally Digital Hell. That might make an interesting plot point, as the "Heroes" risk condenming innocents to hell if they accidentally hit them with their attacks. If you are looking for more mature Digimon stories for inspiration you might want to check out Devil's Advocate, Seductive Shadows, and Open Windows by rgm0005 (none finished, but still interesting). There is also Garden's of Babylon by Daneel Rush. .......... I am sad that nonmembers can't get to TFF anymore as they have some more for these stories on those forums. I particularly like Daneel's latest part of Ruin's of Babylon the sequel to Garden's of Babylon wherein Ruki reflects on how the public views the latest deaths as a result of a Digimon attack. Now back to Eva Ideas. Let's make one big change in Asuka's backstory. Her mother and father did not have "issues" and remained a happily married family with him raising Asuka. Nothing else changes just that, and the ripples that result from it. What ripples result from a more emotionally stable Asuka other than her having a lower Synch Score? Does a "backup pilot" get trained in an attempt to replace her if Asuka's score is deemed low enough that she might be unsuited to actual combat? How are her interactions with Kaji and Misato when they don't have as big of an impact on her life? How does a more socially well adjusted girl work with Shinji and Rei, and how does she view their issues?
So long as Lilith and Adam are still alive Seele can set off 3I. Possibly they only need one of them to be alive. The best way to stop Seele from pulling off 3I is to have the Pilots not fall to pieces when Seele makes their move.
Hmmm, maybe its the world of adamat angels dreams... no, of we go that route we would end up purifying it and makeing the angels a none threat.... ... wait, maybe its iruel again, this time trying to make his own version of digimon!
I was actually thinking about it being Adam back from the dead, but Iruel being back could work too. Hmm, but what if it was a world created from the dreams of Angels and other beings like them just like the Digital World was created by human beings and creatures like them? It could be like a sort of Anti-Digital World that's diametrically opposed to the normal Digital World, and the conflict between the two worlds could mirror the conflict between humanity and the Angels. The conflict with the Dark Ocean could be used to illustrate just how difficult the fight with the Angels will be, but it could also be used to make the statement that the children of the Black Seeds and White Seeds don't have to fight each other the moment they find out about each other and that at some point there might be peace.
I've had a few plot bunnies pop into my head over the last few weeks: Young Shinji is kidnapped inter-dimensional portal blah blah blah and receives Dunyain training from R. Scott Bakker's Second Apocalypse novels. Or just reads them and is inspired to learn the techniques himself. I'm seeing a possibility for a brutal examination of the inherent cruelty of the Mary Sue Shinji. Gendo and Fuyutsuki are on a flight to a conference somewhere or something a year before Sachiel arrives, and a radical terrorist group shoots the plane down and kidnaps them. They want the secret of AT-Field technology. Gendo fools the terrorists into thinking he's cooperating while building a tiny suit of Eva armor that amplifies his own personal field to escape, Fuyutsuki dies in the process. Basically, Gendo goes through Iron Man's origin (without any actual crossover content, it's all Eva stuff) and goes gloriously insane. Evangelion/Horus Heresy. Shinji the Primarch. Shinji is the Primarch of the Legiones Astartes II, the Second Sons. The first company is a Terminator company called the Berserkers, his battle barges are the Makinami, Shikinami, and Ayanami. He's the only survivor of "Earth", rescued by the Emperor after Third Impact. The terrible secret of the Legion is that Asuka survived, too, but on the edge of death and Shinji keeps her in a stasis tube, desperate for any means to resurrect her. The main character is a remembrancer who arrives on the same ship with an envoy from another Space Marine Legion... the Word Bearers. The only problem with that last one is that it'd be hard to explain in-story how the hell he is a Primarch. Since they all have themes, and their sizes vary, I figured it'd be cool if his "thing" is that he's the size of a normal human but possesses vast psychic strength and disguises himself in the presence of outsiders with artificer armor.
You know how Ritsuko jokes in the beginning about o-nine system that has some ridiculously low chances of working? So, what if it doesn't? For some reason (Shinji being too much of a wimp to be recognized by Eva as a human being, Shinji having no self-worth, thus almost no AT-field, thus being unable to intersact with Eva, Shinji not giving a f*ck, Yui just going brain-dead due to sensory deprivation for ten years and not recognizing Shinji) Eva doesn't work for Shinji. Synchronization 0%. What happens then? Oh, and on this topic: any fics where Shinji refuses to pilot and goes through this (Vengeance counts somewhat) or doesn't arrive or can't pilot or is killed on the road to NERV (and doesn't get revived in the act of ass-pull like in that fic with a Russian bomb)?
It strikes me that this could work if the story isn't about Shinji--or, if it is, it's about Shinji being stuck in Tokyo-3 as they try to make Eva work with him, and he ends up being a powerless spectator throughout. But then, if he's powerless, what does he do?
Well, the same thing that always happens when you try to force something in Digimon- Bad Things. In Digimon, trying to force a higher power state or make somebody fight when the don't want too is this setting's Monkey's Paw. Disclaimer: I stopped watching 2-3 episodes the season after Tamers, so I'm not sure that's true anymore. EDIT: Gaaaaahhhh, TOTALLY misread that. For some reason, I thought you were talking about what would happen if they then tried to force him to fight. My blood sugar's a little low -_-
OK. So, since I'm not doing the "first episode" anymore, here's my synopsis for it instead. The pilots are doing a test with the simulation bodies in the nude when suddenly the 11th Angel, Iruel, attacks. Misato tries to get the plugs to eject, but she fails and the pilots instead [relatively] slowly disintegrate into nothingness (read: digi-dust) while Misato watches everything on the monitors. Ritsuko manages to get her out before the room floods, and the opening ends with Misato's unfocused look of shocked devastation. Cut to a shrubland where Asuka, Shinji, and Rei are waking up in new sets of clothes. Rei suffers a coughing fit from exposure to the sand and dust which the other two pilots help her with, and which helps to establish that not only are they wearing new clothes (Asuka is wearing goggles and an outfit that makes her resemble a WWI fighter pilot; Shinji is wearing wrap-around sunglasses similar to Misato's and a hooded-sweatshirt and camping outfit; and Rei is wearing aviators and the generic khaki military uniform that just seems to blend from one desert fighting force to the next; the dominant colors are red, blue, and white respectively), but they also have backpacks full of equipment and a strange device clipped to each of their belts. After they realize that they're not in the Geofront anymore they decide to head off after Rei spots what looks like a town off in the distance with her new binoculars. Soon after they start walking they come across a trio of strange creatures (Betamon, Guiliomon, and Dorumon's in-training forms) who were dropped there by a minion who happened to get taken out by another minion and who they eventually agree to let come with them to the town. A storm starts a brewin' and the sextet is forced to leg it. Upon reaching the town they manage to find shelter in one of the houses. While they're waiting for the storm to pass the kids and their partners manage to find a secret entrance to the underground aqueducts, which they agree to explore at a later date. The storm ends and they find themselves in a Digimon village where the town leader and hero is a Frigimon who provides the townsfolk with the water they need to survive via melting ice from his attacks. The band spends time finding out about the new world and the situation of the town: major highlights are the strange hexagonal darkness that's appeared on the other side of the continent and the town running out of water from the normal supply just before Frigimon showed up. Asuka smells a rat and they decide to go exploring in the aqueduct that night. While exploring the aqueduct they discover that it has been clogged up with a giant sheet of glacial ice, behind which lies a massive build-up of water. The band's Digimon attack the sheet, and when it starts to crack apart on its own they run, making it back to the entrance just before the water floods the aqueduct. They make it outside where the whole town is gathered and Shinji reveals what they found. A fight ensues in which the Digimon digivolve to protect their partners after Frigimon proves too strong initially to beat. The weakened Frigimon is destroyed when Asuka stabs her knife into him, and in the aftermath the townsfolk reveal the prophecy of the Digidestened and their belief that the six that restored their water are them and their Digimon partners. The episode ends with the band heading off towards the nearest city to find a way home, and more about the Digidestened prophecy which they seem to have fallen into.
You know, that's a really solid plot. It feel like a real episode of Digimon. Gah, I want to write it but I have so many fics to work on already. My one nitpick is the Betamon. Unless the digimon wiki is lying to me, Betamon digivolves into Seadramon. While you can certainly have a digimon partner that does best in water, I really think it has to be capable of functioning on land, too (think Gomamon and it's digivolutions). Otherwise you run the risk of it being the Aquaman to the other digimons' Superfriends.
You know, I once had an idea like that, except that the pilot actually didn't 'pilot'. They just provided the AT Field and the EVA did everything on it's own. Like a Berserker, but without the superpowers. Though I'd have no idea what to do with Asuka's character if I wrote it.
@ Cody: Interesting synopsis and I think it has potential. @ Mike: Why does Aquaman get such a bad rep? Superfriends was one of the few places he's incompetent. Remember: Just because he's King of the Sea doesn't mean he's helpless on land. Quite the opposite.
Yes, this could work. Shinji could work as an "outside" observer - nothing depends on him, he isn't allowed access to secrets, but he is still in the middle of it all. So, they nuke / N2 Third Angel till it dies, mercy-kill Rei and revive her, possibly lose her and her Evangelion (more important, since it's harder to replace) against fourth, use positron rifle against Fifth while Asuka arrives (if she didn't already come), Sixth could go pretty much like canon, but by this time things have already snowballed (they would rapidly do so after the third angel)... This has much potential.
Glad to see everyone likes the synopsis for what I hoped would be a two-parter. Not surprised to see no one picking up on reading it though. Any ideas for the second episode? If I remember correctly the Ultimate and Mega forms of the Seadramon line have a limited form of flight, so why can't the Champion form? Even without that though, Seadramon is still a giant snake-like creature which could conceivably move around like one on land.
