Saga of Soul: Not your typical magical girl

  1. Nope you didn't, as far as I recall...unless it is that Steel family, which passes the suspension of disbelief since...come on, foreigner?

Ahh, sorry was a reply to
I also feel iffy about some of WyldCard4's comments, but am trying to keep my self from just reflexively defending a story I like.
  3. Well, this took longer than it should have (again. If I haven't said so already: People, you're welcome to needle me about tardy updates), but the first draft for chapter 18 is ready. Just need proofreaders.

    What's your target schedule, anyway?
  5. linkhyrule5 Hero of Time

(Also, in case it wasn't clear, I was volunteering for beta :p)
  6. Ideally? I want to release a chapter every one or two months. It's possible, but...

  8. Also, amusing little tidbit:
I think I've mentioned that I've registered my website on Project Wonderful, so there's a little banner ad at the top and bottom of the website for other people's stories and comics. Well, currently, the US bid for that banner ad is for "City of Angles" by Stefan Gagne.
...Which I find amusing because Stefan Gagne is also the author of Sailor Nothing, which was a huge influence on Saga of Soul.

  9. Arkeus Reading

Well, that was pretty awesome. Thanks.
  10. Amusing AND inspirational.

    HURAAH FOR THE UPDATE!
  11. Nolrai aka HWSoD

I really like chapter 18. Not sure why..
  12. Well, thanks. Hope I didn't bungle the end part too badly - it got significant revisions before the release version. ;)

  13. No comments nor speculation on the teasers? Really, people! :p
I'll admit, I actually got a bit excited to see that someone (other than me!) had added a CMOA page to Saga of Soul's TVTrope entry. :D
  14. I hurried off to read the chapter, and didn't notice the sneak peek, actually.

    Edit:
    Lets see...
-Mother Aurora explains the true nature of magic!
No, won't happen till the very end, or close to it.

    -Soul fights an eldritch abomination!
Sure, could work. Everything we've seen so far falls neatly into human or spirit, so something ELSE is appropriate. Might have something to do with entity that kicked all of this off. I can't remember it's name right now, but I remember a clown or jester reference, and with the association with madness and whimsy, that kind of being is often an eldritch abomination of some flavor.

    -Giant robots!
... You could do it with enough noble magic, but... it would be alot. And it would be a crap way of using the power. No.

-A third main character joins Eriko and Junko!
No - it might happen, but we're pretty busy with characters at the moment. Maybe after we shift to America and have jettisoned some of the cast.

    -Chancell's plan for Japan revealed!
    Sounds timely. Yes.

    -Soul visits a parallel universe!
Sounds solidly within the realm of probability. Yes

    -A major character dies!
Always immortant to establishing a feeling of risk. Yes

-The rationale behind the Circle of Wisdom's erratic strategy!
We need to advance the plot, so this could happen, or...

    -Soul vs. Murder, round 2!
We could have this. It's been hinted at for some time, after all.

-Mother Aurora talks shop with Kyuubey from Puella Magi Madoka Magica!
No, but she could talk with a completely rational actor as it pursues its own goals for stopping the death of the universe. That's functionally identical to talking to Kyuubey.

He Who Laughs is a little outside of Soul's power range, I think... -_-
  16. Let me put it this way:
Mother Aurora's power levels completely outclass Soul's. She can open interdimensional portals at will, her shields protect her almost completely from an H-bomb at point-blank-range, and she can wipe out every single instance of a specific virus type across an entire planet in a matter of seconds. Mother Aurora is freaking cosmic.
Mother Aurora also figures (correctly) that in a fight with He Who Laughs, she would last...well, exactly as long as he would allow her to. The difference in power levels between them is even bigger than the one between Aurora and Soul.
  17. Didn't say she might fight He Who Laughs, just some random peon associated with it, in about the same way a Deep One (and not one of the big, "important" ones, like Father Dagon or Mother Hydra) is assorted with Azathoth.

I'm loving your story, I'm greatly regretting neglecting the Original Fiction Forum for so long.

Secondly, I find it a very bitter irony that after a mere 11 days after you have Eriko reach the moon in your story after so long, Neil Armstrong dies.

  19. Thank you. Feel free to join us on the official forum! ;)
I've been told several times that almost nobody goes to the Original Fiction forum, but, what can you do?

    Indeed.
That bit had been planned for a while (since before even Eriko's first spacewalk), but...
  20. Still working on chapter 19 (hit a bit of a snag I'm striving to figure out)...but in the meanwhile, wrote this little omake.
    Entirely non-canon, of course. ;)
  21. Really? Oh.

Any eta for the update? Also, I like that omake. Like it like it like it.
  22. Man, five months since the last chapter release...This ain't glorious.
But I've finally finished my first draft of Chapter 19. And those predictions I made on the forum? Two of them already come true in this one. ;)
Now I just need proofreaders. ^^

I just went through your whole story today and enjoyed it immensely. Speaking for an introvert the whole speech Eriko has when she is facing down downfall was moving. Speaking of being moved, the thank you bits actually had me tearing up. Keep up the good work I can't wait for another chapter.
